I checked out the site - is there a percentage discount if you pay the $20 to become involved on products? Wondering if signing up makes for a better price on the items.

Thank you - putting a modest amount of food on my plate and swishing it around sounds like a great plan. I shared this idea with my husband and he said he'd be happy to pick at my plate while eating his so even less food is left on my plate LOL

I had this same fear and wondered what to do since my Roux en Y was on Oct. 19th this year. I just had a 50th surprise party here at the house for a friend and no one even noticed I was walking around and not eating. I had my favorite wine glass filled with Water and some fruit - a strawberry, blueberries, orange slice - to look pretty and people were more interested in why I had the pretty glass than what was in it. One person asked why I wasn't drinking wine and I told them it was my house and I wanted to be on my best behavior :). As it turns out, I had a hiatal hernia that needed repaired. Doc found it when he did my WLS. That's been helpful to use - google it, maybe it will work for you as an excuse, at least in the beginning. AND before I had surgery i did do some food intolerance testing to see if there were things I continue to eat that are not helping me. I found out some new stuff - allergy to wheat which I've known and intolerance to all dairy, green Beans, asparagus, ginger, cinnamon, to name a few. I've told people truths - just not the whole truths - about why I'm looking thinner these days.

I'm not sure if this will help but you can get pain Patches from your doc. My podiatrist actually prescribed them for me when I was having a hard time with heel spurs and plantar fasciitis a few years back. I too have issues with my SI Joint and have used them and they have really helped, however I have not had WLS yet so I'm not sure if they are approved but definitely worth asking about. That's all I can think of at the moment other than there is a lot written about the foods we eat causing inflammation and making pain more difficult to manage. I look forward to following this post as I will soon be in the same boat as you.

Hi. I have surgery scheduled in October and have decided not to tell most of my family. Has anyone else done this and how do you "hide" the fact that you are eating differently at Holiday meals?

Had my first post-op today. I'm doing well and the doc is pleased with all the numbers :). I'm down just shy of 10 pounds in a week! That's amazing. Perhaps more amazing is how I feel. I've done very well with keeping things down and progressing along. I'm having very little trouble getting all my fluids in and my Protein level is pretty good too. I start new and exciting things this week like Vitamins, cream of rice, V-8 juice and Soups. I just read Sunnyday25's post above and can't wait for pulverized chicken! I go back in two weeks for my next appointment. Hope everyone is doing great! Hugs and prayers!

Love my Tespo. So easy to use, the taste of the Vitamins are like the old school Tang and once it mixes up the vitamins with Water you are left with about 1 oz of Fluid to drink so it is perfect for bariatric patients! They even have Vitamin pods designed specifically for bariatric men and women. Well worth the small investment!

Hi all! I got home early this afternoon. My surgery was yesterday. I woke up with the gas pains everyone mention. The most uncomfortable pains were in my left shoulder. I had a few sips of veggie broth, a third of a Popsicle and a small bite of Jello but I was still feeling nauseous and ended up throwing it back up. This morning however I felt like million bucks. I slept very well and I'm fairly certain that helped tremendously. I'm a bit sore but not like doing a gazillion crunches like some say. It's been a good day. Hope everyone else is feeling good, too.

So tomorrow is the day for me! I'm on liquids today for pre-op. These can include Protein Drinks and creamed soups! I can drink coffee even. Tomorrow morning after bathing in the special soap for the 2nd time I can have coffee or juice or Bone Broth on the way to the hospital if I want and then I'll be joining you recent surgery peeps in the post-op diet. I'm nervous, feel like I should clean and get things in order today, but mostly confident in my decision. I haven't told two of my three kids yet so that's weighing on me but I think it's best for now. I am so excited to feel good again, get some of this weight off to help with back, hip and overall joint pain, and to have the energy and desire to hang with the grand kids more....these are the things that give me confidence in this decision. I appreciate the most recent posts from those of you that just had surgery this week and your encouragement. Keep it coming....I still have 20.5 hours to go until I leave for the hospital :).....

I purchased a Tespo machine a few months back and totally love it! I want to share the info with those of you looking for alternate ways to get your bariatric Vitamins in. This little machine uses pods - I purchased the Women's Bariatric Plus one. Once you insert the pod into the machine it automatically goes to your next dose, pops a hole in the foil pod and disperses a tiny bit of Water before mixing it for you. It takes like 15 seconds. The intake amount is so small it is not problematic for new WLS peeps and it tastes kind of like Tang - actually pretty good - I LOVE it! Check out this site for more info and a $30 off code. The more pods you order the lower the cost is for your vitamins. I order the women's bariatric plus, mens complete, sleep and hair and nails one.....love, love, love. Hope this helps those of you that are having trouble getting your Vitamin supplements down!

    A couple other thoughts -
    1. There is a fairly new Protein Water available if you are okay with whey protein. It's called Protein2O and it has a good taste to it with 15 grams of protein per serving and no sugar. I like the grape and wild cherry flavors. If you contact the company they will send you a handful of coupons for .50 off each bottle so it makes it more affordable to try.
    2. Bone Broth is something to look into. It has tons of protein with a bit stronger taste than regular broth. It can be quite expensive to purchase but may be worth checking into - pick up a container just to try. I make my own and there are lots of recipes...google bone broth or I'd be happy to tell you how I make mine if interested. I did order some 8oz sized ones from Amazon to have available at first when I'll be away from home.
    3. I read someone suggested a mug plate - one of those things you can plug in to keep your coffee warm. She used it with her small dinner plates and bowls to keep food warm since we are to eat over a 30 minute period. I thought that was clever.
    4. A Yeti-type double insulated mug - again because we are drinking a lot and things warm things go cold in a regular mug.
For hospital stay someone mentioned a pair of pajama bottoms so your back end isn't hanging out while walking the halls at the hospital lol - thought that was a good idea.....

They are called Flector patch (diclofenac epolamine topical patch) 1.3%. They are large Patches (10cm x 14cm) so i cut them down as needed. They were not prescribed for my back issues but in between injections I use them. I have the type of SI injections where they knock me out so I'm in an out patient facility to have them. They work a lot better than the ones they do in office. I most recently had a radiofrequency nerve ablation done and that has helped me incredibly! Hope this info helps you
