My gallbladder is out, and they managed it laparoscopically, against their predictions!
The surgeon (not same as my RNY surgeon) said on my waking “the surgery was relatively simple because you are slender”.
I could have kissed him. With tongue 😁😁😁😁💋

GassyGurl got a reaction from Naturalz in Gastric sleeve Self pay...Any recommendation?
I paid $9000 in Ft Lauderdale with Bariatrix, FL. Most places I talked to in the US do not include preop testing. I had to have ekg, bloodwork and a psych consult, but my insurance covered all of that. My experience was wonderful.

Dr Taggar and Dr Wizman are part of Bariatrix, FL. Dr shillingford is also at the same hospital and has a great self pay price.

Dr Umbach at Blossom bariatrics in Las Vegas also has a great self pay program.

All of these will probably require a hotel room either for your companion, or a night before/after. If you truly want all inclusive, look into Mexico. At first, it sounds scary, but once you review testimonials it sounds better than the US. Plus, preop testing and hotels are normally included. Overall, it's a great option.

GassyGurl reacted to LovableLisha in Has anyone tried puréed earlier than two weeks?
I was sleeved May 10th. I was only on pureed for 3 days and after that a regular diet. I slowly started eating meats and now I'm in the testing stage on weather my stomach likes certain meats. My surgeon had me on 2 days liquids, 3 days soft/pureed foods and after those 5 days after surgery he put me on a regular diet.

GassyGurl reacted to Mino_IE in 7 WKs Post Op and Pregnant
So as the post says, I am 7 weeks post op, had surgery back on March 28. I've had a very good recovery, no issues what so ever. I had an appointment with doc and ask for b/c on the 26th of April, as normal they tested for pregnancy and it was negative so they recommended I get an IUD and wait for my period so they can easily place it, I was scheduled for the following week to get the IUD placed but I had to reschedule to the following week because my period did not come. So the appt comes around, still no period but that day I was extremely nauseated and my breast we're sore for what felt like 3 weeks straight. I was also dizzy, when I would get up, I would get light headed. I was tested again, waited 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins and I just KNEW something was up. Never in a million years did I think I would be pregnant. After 7 yes without a pregnancy, after 3 miscarriages and 10 yrs of trying, never did I think it would happen, I had given up hope and was Ok with never being a mom. To my surprise and my doctor's, I was pregnant. My doctor did not believe it either when the nurse told her considering my history. Now it's only been 6 days since I've found out and I'm scheduled for a follow up this Monday, I have an ultrasound scheduled for Tuesday and am waiting for a call back from the hospital for the specialist OB, I am considered high risk and they said I need to be monitored closely. I had blood work done and the HCG was over 3k which made me feel good, knowing what I've experienced in my past with those numbers. I was on a regimen of antibiotics for H Pylori post op but I have stopped taking those meds along with the Prilosec since finding out. Per my surgeons office and doc, I should not take them. I am anxious to find out if everything is ok, like I said I feel good and I am eating well also but in the back of my mind, I will ALWAYS have that fear of miscarrying again. However I know God is great and he would not give more than you can take, he would not have blessed me with this, he works in mysterious ways and I am very thankful for my blessings. I will keep updating as I go along as I want to share my experience with others since there is not much knowledge out there with pregnancy post op, especially so soon!

this is what i was thinking of doing. i know my surgeon changes the pre-op diet requirements on a patient to patient basis so i’m not sure what my requirement will be time wise, etc but i was thinking maybe doing 2 shakes a day at least? to get started?

i guess perhaps i’m caught in between a mental spot of “do i really want to start shakes now when i have another month to *enjoy* myself” or “do i take care of myself and quit that childish attitude because i’ll still be able to eat food after surgery it’ll just be different?”

sorry if that doesn’t make sense, my head is all over the place lately.

I am a sleeve patient and dump with liquids or liquidy soupy food. Sometimes a Protein Shake will do it, and it isn't necessarily tied to sugar, fat, carbs for me. I get heart palpitations and am very drowsy. No bathroom problems. It sucks!

So, I'm sure all of this googling has shown that leaks are rare. From what I've read, you would know if you had a leak, no doubt. And as far as I know, all surgeons test for leaks, either in the Or with air, blue dye, or a swallow test later on.

Congrats on your surgery, sounds like you're doing well. Except for the Gerd. Are you taking an acid reducer?

Don't stress too much. There are plenty of people who get at least two of them fixed at a time, and there are people who have all three done. I had a type Ii hiatial hernia and it was fixed with a few stitches. Some Dr's seem to have wonky rules, but let's just hope yours will fix them all at once.

Our nurse is fond of saying 'dry is deadly'. So true for me! For me, taking a sip makes it worse and I hurl. Luckily it's only happened 2 to 3 times. I've had to tell myself it's OK to skip it or pitch it if it's dry. No guilt!

I wasn't really dizzy, just groggy. My eyes were blurry, and I couldn't read my phone very well for a few days. The nurse walked with me once, but then was convinced I was steady on my feet and cut me loose.

    Good luck!

I woke up in the recovery room around 11am and was awake the rest of the day. I asked for ice, but was only given mouth swabs. Wanted to use the bathroom, but the nurse brought me a bed pan. I felt a little foggy, but fine. I didn't even get pain meds till I got to my room, but I didn't need them. And I transferred myself from one bed to another when I got to my room.

I was shocked how great my experience was.

My emergency c-section was 26 years ago, and much worse than my sleeve surgery. With the c-section, I was throwing up, and allergic to the pain meds. For the sleeve, no nausea or vomiting, no pain (except gas) and I felt great. Night and day!

Hey all! Thanks for all of your support. After I had a little meltdown (haha) I got back to researching. I cancelled my appointment that was set for 4/30 and registered for another information session at another hospital in NJ who I know (for sure this time) accepts my specific insurance. And my insurance accepts them. The info session is on Thursday 5/3. The info will probably be redundant but at least I'll get a feel for what this hospital offers.
Let's hope this one works out lol

from my understanding, there are 2 types of dumping. the more immediate early type, and late dumping syndrome. late dumping has many of the same symptoms, but cam include hypoglycemia.
I know there are better sources than wikipedia, but according to wikipedia, about 75% of people have early dumping and 25% get late dumping. I get mostly early dumping, but have had late dumping a handful of times. for me, it's much worse, as my blood sugar goes haywire.

I think I have experienced it pre-surgery too. back in the day, if I drank a sugary drink, i'd get all of the dumping symptoms. I just never knew what it was. anything like a wine cooler, glass of OJ or syrupy sweet drink would almost always do it. and I was like 120#.

Has anyone gotten by and been happy with less than a Tummy Tuck?
I have had an apron since 1991. Got up over 195, and even now at 137, I still have a flap that covers my hip bones, and hangs down about 3 inches. I am pretty sure there is still a lot of fat in there vs just skin. above my belly button seems ok, but I wouldn't object if it were flatter. Right now, I can wear a size 4 shorts, but I still have a pooch so I cover it with a shirt. now that it's getting hot, the rashes are coming back. ~sigh~
Obviously a full TT is the best way to get it all tight, and flat. But I'm not sure if it's bad enough for a TT, so I have been pondering if I would be ok with some Lipo. Based on pictures I've seen online, and stuff I've read, I think either a panni, mini TT or enhanced TT would be what I'm looking for. But I figured I'd consider less extreme sounding options such as lipo too.
if you had just lipo, what kind? pretty much no chance insurance will cover anything for me. I don't want to bear my stomach. no bikinis for me! I dont want a Fleur De lis either. no vertical scar. I just want to get rid of the pooch that's been left over since my C-section almost 27 years ago.
what does everyone else do? go big or go home? or think something is better than nothing?
    thanks!

I wonder if I'm having a form of reactive hypoglycemia. From what I read, it's all lumped together but reactive hypoglycemia has a drop in blood sugar too. I'm still in the pre-diabetic range but my Dr isn't concerned nor has advised me to test sugar. Just one of those things I wonder about. But the bottom line is always 'don't eat that'. I wish it was that easy!

GassyGurl got a reaction from newme1962 in Gastric Sleeve - BMI 31
My first consult Bmi was 35.6. I tried the insurance route, with no luck. So I shopped around for a new surgeon and by the time I finally had surgery, my bmi was 32.9.

I didn't have to do a preop diet, but chose to do one anyways.

My main motivations were to get rid of high BP, cholesterol and hope for a smaller belly (currently 44 inches), and to feel less self confident around my hubby. I was not a healthy fat person and didn't want to end up like my dad and need a quintuple bypass and valve replacement

So far it has been good. Surgery yesterday, managed to get down my entire tray and have walked 59 laps so far.

I think it's a great tool, and I'm did it to help me do something I haven't been able to do on my own.

I didn't have a preop liquid diet, since my surgeon only requires for those with a bmi over 37. Then it's 2 shakes and one lean green meal per day, not all shakes. I did the lean green diet anyways, because I wanted to get a jump start.

Talked to my girls this morning. They told me they are old and tired like me, as long as I am gentle and don't cram them too hard they don't care what brand I put them in. Don't know for sure why they are so grouchy, they are 12 years younger than the rest of me. Of course there isn't as much gap between 60 and 72 as there used to be 😟
