maggieO got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Spouse says to stop losing weight
Sometimes men forget that not everything is about them... him being happy with you is distinctly different then you being happy with you. I would just be honest about the way you feel... you should go for your goals! Congrats on doing so well and I hope you can get the hubby to get on board.

maggieO got a reaction from sheaster05 in A patient died after surgery with Dr. Elias Ortiz at A Lighter Me!
I will be going to Dr. Ortiz on April 28th. I have researched him a great deal as well as others in Mexico and spoken with a couple of people who he sleeved.

No one asks me anything. Resting B$#%^ Face for the win.
I talk about healthy eating, but I don't talk about the physical stuff with people at all. Most people are clueless about nutrition so after like 3 sentences they have zoned out anyway.

maggieO reacted to Sandy Johnson in Another Patient Death at A Lighter Me (ALM) with Dr. Jose Luis Curiel Marchena
Is there a reason all posts that are about just about anything are being posted in the post about a death at ALM? This question is posed to you Alex. You're obviously wanting to keep this garbage alive for your own profit. Everyone knows it. I've received TONS of emails directing me to this topic.
Unless you verify your information and/or name your sources you are acting recklessly and I'm not going to stand by and do nothing! (Even though I'm pretty sure who you got this from by the way the story is being told)
Again if anyone wants the REAL story, go to our Facebook page or give me a call.

I'm not sure I believe this. You can't bring a 14 year old there in the first place. Sounds like someone trying sabotage someone.

maggieO reacted to blizair09 in WHY OH WHY EAT FAST
I have to ask -- why do you keep doing all of this to yourself? Your posts are really memorable. Pretty quick after your surgery, you were asking about eating chicken wings while you were watching the Super Bowl. When you were on vacation in New Orleans, you asked about alcohol. A week or so ago, you ate onion rings and they made you sick, and now you are eating too fast and eating bread.
I mean absolutely no judgment -- for instance, I'll have a drink or two occasionally now that I am this far along -- but it seems like you go into things knowing that they will produce an undesirable result or discomfort, but you do them anyway. And then you regret it later.
Just an observation. Definitely stay away from the bread, though. Nothing good can come from it.
Good luck!

maggieO reacted to jesseforg123 in Meditations/antidepressants/anxiety meds
I'm on ritalin(adhd) and lithium(mood stabilizer for bipolar) both twice a day. I didn't take them before surgery, my choice the surgeon said I could but I didn't cause I was scared. I didn't take them again until the day after surgery. I took the lithium the next morning after surgery and within 5-10 minutes i was throwing them up with blood. I kept throwing up after and they think it was an allergic reaction to the morphine. They tried again for my night dose and the same thing happened. The next day I refused I was so scared and thats when I started regretting the surgery. All I kept thinking was what did I do to myself over and over again. The day that I was going to be discharged the nurse convinced me to try it again and I could finally keep it down it was just a little bit uncomfortable. Once I was home it was no problem. The only trouble I have now (2 week post op) is taking the multi Vitamin, Calcium, ritalin, and lithium. Its just so much lol but I'm getting through it.

maggieO reacted to mylighthouse in Meditations/antidepressants/anxiety meds
Hello,
I am bipolar and take an antidepressant, an antipsychotic (mania), a mood stabilizer and an anti anxiety med.
I only went one night (the night after surgery) without my meds. That was a huge relief.
I checked with my surgeon before my surgery and he said that I could break (I had to cut with scissors on some) my pills in half, and that would work just fine... and it sure did.... got them down with no problem, it was just a bunch of halved pills to take and it took me awhile to get them down. Little sip of Water with each half of a pill.
Then after about 3 weeks, I was able to stop cutting them in half and take the whole pills by themselves.

The thing is I don't need to lose weight for my insurance to do the surgery. And I feel like then I'm just eating whatever bc I won't be able to have it after the surgery.

Is anyone else having difficulties sticking to a diet during the before stages of surgery? And I mean a diet before the liquid diet?

My advice, throw the chips in the trash. Its easier to avoid trigger foods if it means you have to make a shopping trip to get them. The family should be understanding.

maggieO reacted to DS1 in OK Ladies, kinda embarrasing question for you all
I know this was for the ladies but I wasn't aware that you had to shave at all until the night before surgery a male nurse came in and said that he'd shave me in the morning from my chest to my knees. I was like, uhhh NO!!! Thats not happening. He looked pretty stern at me and said "YES! I have to shave you, Dr's orders..." like that was changing my mind. So I hopped on the phone with the doc and told him the belly was perfectly OK but not my "man bits."
My wife had a good laugh and surely asked me after surgery if i was "bare down there." And don't anyone dare ask if it happened. LOL

Given the cost of surgery, it really shoud include a free brazilian wax.....
However, there was no mention of it for my WLS, nor when I had my hip replaced.
