On the fence about joining a gym
That's a thought. I do have a few videos, in fact one with walking and using bands, pilates, and hula. I saw kettlebells at Aldis, are they useful at all as weights? I guess it doesn't matter where I exercise, as long as I exercise?

On the fence about joining a gym
I am 8 weeks out today.? And I am having trouble deciding to join a gym. When I worked and was losing weight before, I loved going to the gym in the same city I worked in, used the treadmill, stationary bike, and weight machines and it felt great. I also walked during lunch with friends. My life right now as a noncareer person consists of raising two grandkids age 7 and 10 full time and square dancing a few times a month, living in a tri-level house doing chit-ton of laundry, and housework. (Also my husband is retired and home a lot.)I live on 10 acres 2.5 miles from a small town with a gym, and 10 miles from Anytime Fitness. My adult daughters think I should get a treadmill, (I really don't have room, of course they would say sell your longarm quilt machine - not happening) and it would not help with much muscle building anyway which I think I need at age 62. Our small gym has enough equipment to satisfy anyone, plus 10 free fitness classes a week, yoga, showers, etc for about $360/year. Anytime Fitness would be closer to $480, I think. So I don't know if 'I can fall in love' with the gym again....

Surgery tomorrow morning. Extremely nervous!
You got this. Godspeed and smooth recovery. We were all nervous beforehand, normal reaction.

Smoking , Exercise , Anxiety , Mexico
WHY did you start smoking a yeat ago anyway? Has it solved anything for you? Throw the cigarettes and lighter away today.? This is serious surgery. I would not be concerned with heavy exercise, just do some walking and make it a habit.

Finally!
Yay! You go girl!!! Can I rub your (belly) lamp and get my scale to move too!!! ?

Time to be honest. Anyone care to join?
Beating yourself up over deserving/not deserving surgery is wrong headed thinking. Value yourself enough to take an oppotunity when it is presented - would you turn down a raise because well, you didn't work to perfection? I'm thinking that answer is no. We are not perfect, we can only be better and move forward. Surgery will give you better tools to KEEP the weight off providing you get your whole self in the game, especially your mind. I used the preop time to think about my relationship to food, my body needs fuel but food is not my comfort, my friend, a solution to anxiety or problems - after you indulge in food as a behavior - those issues are still there. Stop fearing food, stop giving it power over you. The surgery took my hunger and desire away, but I was ready to let go of food controlling me. Have surgery. Good luck. See you on the 'other side'.

OCTOBER SLEEVERS CHECK IN HERE
I am def stalled, teetering between pounds for about 4 weeks now 190-192. It sucks, consuming 60-73 gr of protein and 850-1000 calories. I have restriction on solid food, no issue w fluids, weekly constipation and no hunger or desire for food - which that is good, now if the scale would move. My jeans fall off my arss and I have jettisoned a trash bag of clothes already and lately have lots of energy.

Warning: TMI about Gastric Sleeve pre-op diet
Whey protein shakes can make you constipated. Try smooth move tea or a stool softener.
-
Regrets, I feel like Gastric Sleeve Surgery has been the biggest mistake of my life
Hang in there. Ask for 1000m of tylenol in the IV.
-
Sleeved 12/14 - Scary Complications ?
If you still have pain they can give 1000m of tylenol through an IV - amazing stuff. Also for nausea - ask for a scopolamine patch behind your ear - also amazing. Do your breathing exercise and start walking the hall several times a day, sip warm tea. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Nothing tastes good
I have no desire either. I just make myself eat 6 times a day, it is a struggle. I find I like highly seasoned things better, but I still have a fridge with lots of leftovers because eating something 3 times in a row just doesn't cut it.

@TessieLoo welcome! I'll edit that book for you and write the intro. - my mother had food hers was this variety - bake a chocolate cake and then taunt you with it - 'you have to learn to leave it alone.' - yeah and I thought I was a fat kid until I looked at my report cards a few years ago and I wasn't. Even though I loved my mother, I have had to face some harsh realitiesand find peace, she has been gone over 15 years now. Pick up the book by Byron Katie called 'Loving what is'. Good luck and keep posting.

Will having a cold have any impact on my surgery?
As long as there is no fever you should be fine by then. Good luck!

@FluffyChix post-op it is the swelling and air intake that makes drinking fluids hard, you have only a little space and a small gulp feels like a boulder. And then things taste weird for awhile, and plain water can be a little nauseating. Some things cause the ' 'slimes' or 'foamies' - like a slobbering St. Bernard...lol It is all temporary though. I can take pretty good slugs now as long as it isn't five in a row - glug glug glug glug glug!!! I will still slime only if I take that 'one toke over the line' bite....then it's gotta come back up or be in misery. Learning curve for awhile.... My only issue is I have a fridge full of leftovers....I have a tiny serving of chili then don't want it for subsequent meals lol. So the current lineup in there is cream of chicken with extra canned chicken and some veg added, southwestern chicken soup, turkey chili, some pork chop, some deli turkey, and meh I don't want any of it...picky picky picky lately

EXHAUSTED on liquid diet
Try hot tea or ice tea instead of soda. You are experiencing carb withdrawal and it feels a lot like having the flu. It gets a little better after day 5, day 3 is the absolute worst. This is against doctor's orders, so do with it what you may, but if this was me I would eat two ounces of tuna - especially if I had a final riding on my brain power. You are far enough away from the surgery date that it will leave your stomach in plenty of time. It's protein.

3 days out and hurting ?
Have you called your surgeon? They can address this with medication.
-
Issues after eating
You could have a stricture? How long does it last? Do you get your solid protein in if you are having this issue? Are fluids also causing this? Try a warm drink 15 minutes before, then have moist food. If it persists I would call the surgeon's office and get checked out. Good luck.

Congrats to ProudGrammy (Kathy) On Her 6 Year Surgiversary!!
Hear ye, hear ye....I concur everything Fluffy said. You never fail to be uplifting and faithful.

Should I tell him?
Yes, but wait until you are in person. In the meantime you can analyze his attitude toward healthy lifestyles, his attitudes in general, what he does for fun, how respectful he is to anyone, and how he handles money. I have seen some great guys become not so great because they had huge hidden issues - gorgeous gambler, charming drunk, outgoing narcissist, sexy in bed asshat, etc. And even though all of us like to think we are above 'hot physical attraction', let's be honest that is part of it too, that is not the foundation of course. Good luck and invite us to the wedding!

Apart of the small percentage where things go Very Wrong!
Wow! So glad there was a medical team that reacted swiftly!! I hope you get answers and maybe get a medical alert bracelet personalized.

9 months post-op....weight loss stopped and frustrated!!!
The study on sweeteners is junk science. You might try a couple things - change the types of food you are having because you are eating the same things over and over and you need to shake it up. Up your protein to 100grams and up your water as well and calories by 200 for three days. If you aren't eating fish - try that, eat a sweet potato instead of carrots, etc. Then drop calories back down. And hit the treadmill a little more.

Waking up with INCREDIBLY dry mouth after surgery
Def Biotene. And I keep a water bottle on my nightstand and sip a few times during the night. Brush your tongue before bed as well.
