What did you lose on the pre op liquid diet
I'm in the middle of mine! I'm on day 7 of 14 pre-op diet. Down 5 pounds in these 7 days. Prior, I lost 20 pounds on the 6 month journey through doc visits up to this point. Surg. is Aug 1.

Aug 1 date
HW - 271 (started process in Feb) Current - 246 Surg - Aug 1 (No time until day before) ----- Two week diet prior: B/L/D - protein shake with 1/4 cup of fruit. With dinner, add 2 cups veg. Can have protein shake with s/f Popsicle for lunch. Also, there was another choice with more regular food options, but this keeps it streamlined and easy to follow. 7th day of it...doing great, don't feel deprived.

Gastric Sleeve - Dental Health Concerns
I've NOT had my surgery yet. I'm due in two weeks. I did see my dentist recently and asked of any concerns. He didn't know of any reason to avoid the surgery. Take my calcium so it's not leached from my bones and teeth...and keep up with preventative appts is my plan. Maybe others will also chime in, but also, everybody's hygiene habits are different...some floss, some don't, some waterpik, some don't, some use elect toothbrushes, some don't, etc...so it would be hard to account for other aspects. For me to knock out diabetes....I'm all in. Good luck in your decisions.

Not having success (pre op)
Have you tried flipping your eating schedule upside down, so you're having your shake while doing dinner, so you don't graze? Sometimes, it takes new perspective or distraction to work around old habits. Hang in there. Also, i found I do better writing everything down -- ex: My Fitness Pal. Get excited...try to rev yourself up and remember why you're here. I know it can be difficult, but taking a good luck at your feelings might help you get back on track.

What exactly is the preop diet?
I used a site...maybe two - i think Vita Lady or something, and another...they sell samples where you can pick and choose individual protein packs to try. I think nectar you can get a sample pack from them ($) and BP here might hvae them too, think i looked on Amazon, too. Anyway, doing that was helpful. Also, my doctor's ofc gave me like three different things to try, and I hit GNC/Vita.Shoppe and picked up samples early on. I had 6 months, so I figured it would keep me in the right mindset and give me something to proactively do. It was fun to try new things. Thank goodness for sample sizes!

Vitamin Deficiency, 13 years post op
I get like that when my thyroid levels are off. I'd gotten lax about HOW I take it, not understanding that it interacted with other things I took. After 20+ years, I just didn't think about it. Once I realized, I adjusted for that. Made a difference. I hope you find some relief soon!

Best protein shakes and why
I got a lot of samples to try things. I finally found I was happiest with Syntrax Nectar, more juice like than milk like. Mix with water....a lot of flavors...thankfully, I found one I liked after trying many! I had so many samples through the last few months. Crossing my fingers that I still like these after surgery (Aug 1)

unflavored protein powder
I found Syntrax (people who make Nectar)...they have a medical grade one, unflavored that I got in a sample pack (ordered a bunch of samples from somewhere, maybe vitalady or something - forget)...anyway, that one worked well for me.

What exactly is the preop diet?
I start mine on Tuesday (two weeks), but I have protein shakes/fruits/veggies for two weeks. It's always surprising to see the differences between everyone like what they can and can't have....or how long they do it for! I'll be using Syntrax Nectar -- which I've used during the past 6 months...after a bunch of testing, found something I liked. Hopefully, I'll like it after!

Less than 2 weeks until surgery!!
Thanks for the list of tips! Good luck to those going in. I have mine Aug. 1st.

Did your style change
I can't wait for this part. Before leaving the house yesterday, I changed my shirt about 12 times. I was so sad. I wanted to be okay with ANY of them. I feel so...big. I look forward to choosing and wearing one shirt. Getting dressed will be faster. LOL

Running
When I ran, what I noticed more than anything was my stamina and breathing. How much easier it was to do things. Walking never did the same lung capacity for me. So while my body didn't change a ton on the outside, the lung capacity changes were huge for me.

Lifting weights hardcore, high intensity? Post Surgery
I've done both traditional weight training and the super slow/heavy weight reps...loved the latter. That's my plan once I'm able. Surgery, Aug 1. I loved how healthy my body felt when I lifted. I had to stop for other reasons. (Back surgery last year -ongoing chronic issue, now resolved)

C25K
C25K is fab! I used that when I trained in the past (did a couple of half-marathons). I hope to run again with some weight off of my hips/knees. At this point, it's walking for me. Also, the book "Marathoning for Mortals" was such a great help, too. Really inspired me. I ended up enjoying intervals.

Can't drink Protein, HELP!
I use Syntrax Nectar, it mixes with water. (I'm in pre-op/phase)...surgery shortly. Anyway, tried many others, and I was so grateful to find this. Like it so much better than the other ones. This is more like a juice/than shake. Hope I can still drink it okay after surgery!

Holy crap...all the judgement. If only I got actually money for everyone's 2 cents!
Sorry you haven't gotten more supportive responses. Here's where I'm at emotionally. I know what's right for ME. I couldn't tell you what's right for other people, but I trust myself enough to know that I'm making a well researched decision. The end. My loved ones can support me, or vent to somebody else. I don't have time to wallow in negativity. This is a positive and happy experience. They are welcome to tag along....but I'm doing this for ME.
