  1. Really excited to have gotten back into jogging! I used to do cross country back in high school, but after putting on weight I found running difficult, painful, and that I was getting injured often. I'm in the middle of couch to 5k right now and I'm so amazed at how much easier and more pleasant jogging is! Can't wait to get faster, be able to run longer, and see the pounds/inches continue to come off :)

It's the same for me! I love it. Go you!

Iโ€™ve heard that program is great to start with. Keep it up!

  2. Had a few sips of my friend's sweet iced tea last night and felt SO sick for all of last night and most of this morning. Symptoms were consistent with dumping syndrome, but I was under the impression sleevers didn't get dumping syndrome because our pyloric valves are intact?

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

Apparently 17% of Sleevers can....BUT, in my opinion, I think it can be your body's way of rejecting what it doesn't recognize anymore. Eating so good for so long and introducing something so sickly sweet or fatty, we will feel sick doing that. Hope you feel better hon.

I can't eat super sweet anymore either. I hope you are feeling better today!

It is a blessing in disguise though because it will help you resist any temptations for sweet junk.

I think it is your body rejecting sugar. Happens to me too.

  3. Feeling ecstatic about the doors the sleeve has opened for me! I'm (slowly) losing weight and getting more active. This last week I climbed a 60 foot tall rock wall and went zip lining! A few months ago, I never thought I'd do either of those things lol

Wishing I was losing faster, but my surgeon and nut have me eating 900-1200 calories a day with all the exercise I'm doing.

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

Wow. Keep up the activities. That's sound like fun. Don't worry so much about how fast you lose hon, that's added stress. No need for that! Just keep doing what you're doing, you'll get to where you'll need to be in due time. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I agree with newme17. Keep up the great work!

I am a believer in getting our calories up to a reasonable level based on our activities. We don't want to wreck our metabolisms by staying on starvation levels for too long. I am beginning to get 1000-1075 calories on the days I run and 950ish on the days I don't.

That is amazing !! It is so inspiring to see people take back control of their lives and start living to the fullest. Keep it up.

  4. Repeatedly amazed by and so grateful for the sleeve! It's such a new sensation (or should I say one that I haven't had since I was a child) to stop eating when I'm not hungry anymore instead of when I'm full. I portioned out my 3 ounces of meat and 1 ounce of zucchini this morning after the gym. I had maybe 1 or 2 ounces of meat before deciding I'd had enough and packing the rest for later.

I am 4 years out and I am totally still sooo AMAZED at the small amount I can eat. I had the RNY and I can say one of the best things about my WLS is I still have no physical hunger at all! Now head hunger yeppers got it!! Sometimes it is such a challenge not to eat everything my mind says it wants and I need it too. Just so AMAZING!!!

  5. If you guys haven't tried making a crustless shepherds pie with mashed cauliflower instead of potato, I highly recommend it! I used 2 cups of mashed cauliflower, a cup ofย fat free mozzarella cheese, a pound of ground beef, an egg, some Worcestershire sauce, some spices, and a cup of peas and carrotsย and got 8 servings with less than 200 calories each. Tasty, filling, and guilt free!

    1. Introversion

      Introversion

I'll definitely need to make this modified version of shepherds pie, especially since seasonal veggies are so much cheaper around here due to the summer season.

I'm definitely going to try this. Thanks for posting.

I've never had shepherds pie, cause I never liked mashed potatoes and still don't. I might try this, less the peas (never liked them either). Lol Thanks for your recipe!

  6. Slowed down my exercise regimen. I'm planning on only going to the gym 3-4 days a week now instead of 7. Also, I started drinkingย gatorade during my workouts instead of water. I'm feeling great and have so much more energy now!

      Newme17

Yay!!! So great to hear this. :)

You sound like me!! After my RNY I was walking 7 days a week (this comes from a person who HATED exercise!! I got so badd that if something came up and I couldn't walk it drove me insane. I felt like a TOTALLY FAILURE!!! Guess what I still lost my weight and now I exercise 3 to 4 times a week. I walk 3 to 4 miles each time. I truely feel that my exercise is my saving grace!! Don't push yourself until you start to hate it because this is something that we have to do. Exercise is so important!!n Good Luck

  7. Feeling exhausted and hungryย lately... it's probably just head hunger, but knowing thatย doesn't really help when I feel like I barely have enough fuel to get through my workouts (30 minutes strength every other day and 60 minutes on the elliptical or treadmill almost everyday)

How do I get more energy? My vitamin levels are normal (b12 was a bit high) and I get at least 7 hours of sleep a night. My calories are on the high side (900-1200) so I'd prefer not to increase them until the 6 month mark.. I'm just not sure what to do :/

I second Berry78 on that. I haven't been consistent with my workouts these days and I'm still losing the weight. So, yeah, you need some more rest. :)

      Thanks you guys :)
I started comparing myself to others and freaked out about "only" losing 8 pounds for my second month so I increased my exercise. I was under the impression you can never do too much low intensity cardio, but in retrospect, I think I was doing moderate intensity stuff.

Actually reading this back to myself, I now see that my exercise program for the last few weeks has been a bit more intense than it should be for where I'm at right now. Some rest and time off sounds good to me!

    4. Newme17

      Newme17

Absolutely! That "only" shouldn't be in our vocabulary. I've used it a couple times before and had to correct myself as well.

  8. My butt is SQUARE AND FLAT nowย :48_weary:
The weight is slowly coming off and I'm keeping up with working out (strength training 4 days a week plus 60 minutes of cardio every other day plus walking/biking to class and work), but my friends and personal trainer don't see me being able to put on muscle until I'm done losing weight (which probably won't be for at least a year)

      Sweet as peaches

I noticed that my butt went from plump to soft and conform into being jiggly. My calves are jiggly and so are the back of my thighs. I hope i can get muscle but haven't been at the gym yet. I'm 338 now so it might take more time.

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

I'd like to see those type of changes too when I'm carrying less fat as well.

@Sweet as peaches...I think of the song by Will Smith, "Get jiggy with it!" Oh okay, it's not the same word, but it popped in to my head when I read about your jiggly-ness. I have the same thing happening myself.

    4. Sweet as peaches

      Sweet as peaches

Funny but true. I am always feeling the jiggly parts to see the changes.

  9. Been seeing a personal trainer for the last 3 weeks... I'm now able to do the elliptical on a steep incline or walk on the treadmill for 70 minutes with little to no problem, but I'mย a little discouraged by how slowly my strength training is coming along

My surgeon said I had no weight or activity restrictions, just that I shouldn't push myself too hard right out of surgery. Definitely trying to avoid injury! In terms of cardio, which I do after strength training, I'm at higher inclines, but I keep the intensity low (so my heart rate is supposed to be around 140-150)

My trainer says it's to be expected that I feel tired easily and don't put on muscle as quickly as someone who hasn't had the surgery. (It's near impossible to gain muscle mass on such an extreme calorie deficit) But we're working on maintaining the muscles I have now and making going to the gym a regular part of my life. I'm working on getting up to 3 days of strength training a week: push, pull, and lower body. I work my core on all of these days :)

I don't know if you guys are familiar with weight training at all, but it's such a strange and unsettling feeling to get your muscles to the point of failure. I'll try to go for my last rep and my arms just won't go any further for a few seconds hahaha! On the bright side, I've increased 10 pounds on my chest press! On the not so bright side, I still really struggle on the absolute lowest weight the machine has for the shoulder press.

Hoping I'll be fit someday :)

As a side note: I told my surgeon about the workouts I was doing and they recommended that I increase the calories (I now get in almost 900 calories a day, but they didn't give me a specific number for calories) and up my protein goal from 40-60g to 70g. My weight loss has slowed to a crawl in the last couple weeks, but I suspect it may be the dreaded 3 week stall.

      And/or muscle gain. ๐Ÿ˜Š

I do weights myself. Have been for the decade. When I was cleared, about three weeks, I took it easy too. But I'm back to my normal weights. I'm not too sure about not increasing muscle at this point because of our caloric intakes being the absolute truth, because I've noticed I am much stronger and I can see some definition in different areas. But overall, I'm glad for the weight training to be in effect so early on in my wls journey. Seems to be the same for you too hon. Let's make the most of it!! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ

  10. A tiny bit disappointed that I turn 21 tomorrow and still won't know what alcohol tastes like (I was sleeved less than 3 weeks ago), but getting my health and life on track are totally worth it <3

I guess us older folks are wondering why? Lol. When you get older, you'll wander why did you bother too? (or get bored with it). It just got me in a lot of trouble. If I had to do my 20's all over, I'd skip it. Enjoy life sober. You'll be glad you did. One less thing to get addicted to as well (if you tend to have addictions).

      Happy birthday!!! ๐ŸŽˆ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ๐ŸŽ‚๐ŸŽ‰

Btw, I'm not speaking for all of us older ones either.

  11. I didn't think this would ever happen... but I'm actually forgetting to eat mealsย :64_zipper_mouth:
My life used to revolve around food. I'd literally think about eating or food constantly. But now, while I do sip on protein shakes throughout the day, I'm forgetting to sit down and have real food at meal times. I'm meeting my protein and fluid goals each day so this realization is actually really freeing :)
