I have had Ultrasound Guided Gel shots. At first it helped so much but not so much now. I have to sleep with a pillow between my knee's at night. I have boney knee;s now. Not compllaining much. LOL Everyone has their owies don't we. All I can say is KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

    Howdy and Imaginary Hat Tip

Welcome!! YAY KUDO'S on fighting that damn CANCER!!! Sorry I lost my MOM 13 years ago to Lung Cancer. I hate that stuff, muchh like everyone else. I had the RNY on July 2, 2013. I have maintained my weight loss for 3 and 1/2 years. I lost my weight in 6 months. I was so insulin resistant that my PCP was ready to throw up his hands. Since my surgery I haven't had to use anything. They call it remission. LOL I guess once you have Diabetes you have it. I found out 3 months ago when I had my blood work done, my BS was 210. My new DR wanted to treat it right away. I told her give me a month. I got back into my exercise and set down hard on my carbs. The first morning it was 165 then the rest were well within the guidelines so I dodged a bullet there. I decided to have the RNY because I knew I one chance and I said GO BIG OR GO HOME!!! I have never been srry about my choice not ever. Good Luck on whichever surgery you decide on. Never be afraid to ask ?. I'm sure you will get anwsers on any thing you may want to know. I look forward to following your journey.

    Meaty Meltdown

I am 4 years out from my RNY. I have had a hard time with meat. I can eat moist wings, which I make a mean SOY SAUCE chicken wing. Yummy Just try different meats sowly. I just now can eat a very very tender steak ( I have waited so loooong for it) One of my favorite before my WLS. We buy a T-bone steak and hubby gives me the very moist tender piece after he pounds it to death. We share it. (He also had WLS) To be honest I had to use Yogurt, beans, cottage cheese, cheese for my protein. Plus I have a protein I add to my coffee to help me get my protein in. Heck it has only been the last 9 months that I even tried bread. I buy our famous (around here anyway) DAVE'S KILLER BREAD. Al kinds of good stuff in it. Whole grain lots of nuts etc. I can eat 1 piece. I also use nuts and P. butter almond butter. All great in moderation. Good Luck!! I hope you can do better with your meat challenge.

    Pre-Op and Conflicted

I feel for you. most of us have lost weight many times but always gained it back plus more!! I have lost weight so many times and I have tried every weight loss gimmick that came around some I did up to 3 or 4 times thinking the same as you. If you stick to your program WLS's are a tool to help you get it off change the way you think about food and they help you maintain!! That is a huge thing to think about, how many times have you thought aww I've got this I don't need anything because I am strong and commited!! It is now coming to light that obesity is a disease We need help. Most of us don't even know what it takes to lose our weight. But....educate yourself and your wife then make your decision!! Good Luck and KEEP ON KEEPING ON!

    Hungryyyyy

Not even a morsel!! I was so afraid I would do something to myself I was on 4 weeks of protein drinks. It really wasn't hard for me I think I had the fear in me. LOL Even when I was oked to eat soft foods I was so scared. The one thing during my 4 weeks that my PA told me if you can blend it you can have it. I took a very small bite of watermellon, it gave me "The back door trots" it had so much acid it burned my bottom.

    Tell me your Gallbladder Story...

I had my gallbladder removed after my 2nd baby. She was 18 months old. But my gallbladder went guney bag after my 1st baby. I was 18 yo but the quack of a DR told me while I was having a terriblly hard attack that it was an ulcer and gave me a scipt of Beelap it actually helped. I fought it for 7 years before I had mine taken out. That pain is almost as bad as my Pancrtitis was!! It is one HELL of a pain!!! Nope I did NOT miss it at all. Now my hubby didn't have anything going on with his gallbladder, but a few small stones and when they took out his Lap Bnad they removed his gallbladder. He never even had 1 attack. WHA WHA that is me cryting about it. LOL Not really

    Best flavorless protein powder?

I hesitate to even say this. I got some back talk from talking about it before. But...I have tried many proteins and couldn't do them. Until I found GENEPRO I add it to my Espresso everyday. Some say that it isn't good because they say it has 30grams of protein in 1 tablespoon. Even Bariatric store on here sells it. I buy my on line. If you are worrid about it ask your Dr first. It is the only unflavored protein I have found that mixes well and doesn't taste bad. Good Luck

    Sandwich

I didn't have any bread products until I was 3 years out from my RNY. I got to my goal weight in 6 months but I was to afraid to try any bread. I will have 1 slice of a bread made locally called DAVE's KILLER BREAD. I have 1 slice of it with 1 slice of ham and 1 slice of cheese. I buy low carb flour tortillas. But I don't eat it everyday. It has worked for me. My Surgeon and my Nutritioist both told me before my surgery that in time there are no forbidden foods. That we need to eat them in Moderation. Some don't think so but this has worked for me so far. I have maintained my weight for 3 and 1/2 years. Have a great day!!

To Tell or Not To Tell

I told everyone that ask me about my weight loss. I use to go to TOPS and have seen a few of the members off and on. One would ask me in a sour kind of way, How much weight have you lost now? 2 I seen at the grocery store (I had seen them more than this time but...) They tried to ignore me and me being the type of person that doesn't care how uncomfortble it gets!!! I said well HI, they just sat there with blank looks on their faces!! Then I pushed it a little more, and said you don't remember me? I am Sherrie, then they said oh yeah I remember you!! They weren't to happy!! But...you know what "OH WELL" The main reason I was so open with my RNY is I feel like if just one person does something about their weight I would be happy. Putting it out there might just be the push someone needs to get the ball rolling!! That's just me!!

Food reccos for full liquid phase?

You could try BETTER THAN BOUILLON. They have BEEF and CHICKEN. They make a huge difference when you use them. They cost a little more but they are so good. True flavors. Also BARIATRICPAL store carries Chicken noodle soup with added protein. It tasted yummy when I had it after my WLS. Good Luck

    Protein oatmeal

Quaker has the prepackaged Protein Oatmeal. It is good but the serving size was way to much. I haven't had oatmeal for a long time because it was one of the things I could eat without throwing up. I had problems withh Strictures. Which is kind of like scar tissue as I healed it closed my stoma up. So I basically almost starved because I had 5 endoscopes with 4 dialations. It started around my 6th week when I told my Surgeon what it felt like he said maybe we should take a look. I didn't think it was worth the Endoscope. Man was I wrong!! Nov of 2013 was my first Endo, Dec of 2013, Jan 2014, July 2014, with my last one on Jan 2015. Let me tell you if my stomach hurts just a little I am so afraid that they came back. Any way if you like Cranberry and Almond Oatmea it has the added protein, also BANANA and WALNUTS also have the added protein. If you could just eat until you are full then go back to it later. I just never could because I am not much on leftovers. Good Luck and keep us in the know!!

Old clothes? What did you do?

You my friend are going thru exactly what I did. My track record wasn't good with maintaining the weights I lost. So of course when I had to go thru my clothes in my mind all I wanted to do was save them!! At first I had family and friends to hand down too. But anything I want to get rid of now I have noone to give them too. TRUST your program, follow your guidelines and do whaterver your Surgeon says and you will lose weight and fast. Trust me you don't want or need to keep your old clothes!!! When I went thru my closet I had 2 huge lawn bags full!! One thing I found it is so REFRESHING to purge my closet. Before my WLS I didn't have or find many choices for clothes. Now I have kind of went a little crazy and I love to shop for them and also shoes!! Man, when I lost my weight I got into shoes too. I had never wore knee high boots in my life!! My hubby bought me a shoe tree tyo put them on!! LOL KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE!! Good Luck and I look forward to following your journey!!

Artificial sweeteners taste awful post surgery

They are always saying how bad sweetners are for us. I totally get that. We have used Splenda always as both of us are diabetic. I am in remission as they call it. I take no meds, or insulin since my RNY. Hubby is still on insulin etc. So we still use them. I have always said unless you are diabetic just use regular sugar. Just use less. Hubby drinks a lot of Koolaid with his Splenda. I drink diet teas that are sweetened with Splenda. Years down the road we will probally be the ones that it takes out. I just can't drink anything full fat or with sugar my mind just won't let me. Good Luck on finding what will work for you.

    Bariatric Advantage Vitamins

I use CELEBRATE in capsules. I rtake 2 a day. I was told if they were to bigg I could open them and sprinkle them on some applesauce or yogurt, I never had a probem with them. The capsules go down pretty good. I am 4 years out and have always taken them. I did try the Centrum chewable right after my RNY but I couldn't stand the sweetness. That is when I started taking Celebrate. Good Vitamins.

    Dizziness in the morning, severe

You could be dehydrated!! This is a problem with WLS, if you don't get all of your fluids in you can become dizzy etc. Have you checked to see if your blood sugar is ok? When you mentioned that orange juice helped it could very well be a low blood sugar. I had major dizzyness early on plus heart palpatations big time. When I exercised it felt horrible. When I went into my PCP he was worried that it was my heart. He ordered a Stress test, first one was physical and the second test was ultra sound with medicine to stress my heart out. It was because of dehydration. I am 4 years out and I still struggle some with getting in my water. Mostly because I am a big coffee drinker!! But...I put GENEPRO in my Espresso and it has 30grams of protein in it. A WIN WIN for me!! It has 30grams of protein. Good Luck

    Weight Loss Notice

That is totally a normal thingy. For sure. Most of us have been heavy for so long that we still see the fat one when we look at ourselves. I'm 4 years out and as long as I don't look in the mirror (full Length mirror) I am ok. This is the time to measure yourself That is a mus. I didn't and am so sorry I didn't. Also take pictures, take them in a door because with seeing yourself like that you can really tell. I am also very guilty of not taking pictures. You know some of us are photogenic and some of us are not. I am the are nots. Good Luck in your journey and keep us posted on your success!!!

    No One In The Sixties?

You are doing great!! But...I hate t be a DEBBIE DOWNER I have been told that our bodies can only absorb 30grams of protein at a time. If you space it out over a period of time it might make it work out for you. KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!

    Dating is hard

Hi, Don't you think that marring the oppisite works out better? I do!! I'm a all out kind of person. I love people most of the time. My hubby has always been the home body and I feel like we compliment each other. Just my feelings on this. I am so THANKFUL that I am NOT in the dieting games. We have been married for almost 44 years now. Even if I don't have my hubby I wouldn't put myself back out there. I defintly don't envy any of you that are in the dating scene.
