I have been drinking MIO for my basic drink but starting to like Isopure and Premier Protein Clear Protein Drink. It is nice to get the supplemental Protein as it helps with energy. Tired of Soup but Protein Shakes are fine. Been walking about 7k steps since Saturday but my wife caught me on the bench press machine doing some reps of 40lbs and I got the look. So I have not done that since promised to wait until two weeks but I am ok to play with bands. I am amazed how good I feel and my hope is all my April sleevers are doing well. Tomorrow is first group meeting for nutrition. I suppose they need to get us ready for week two and three.

Wow has it really only been 3 weeks it seems like a lifetime ago, it feels surreal to think how I felt then and how I feel today.
So I have been though the post surgery gas pain, the feeling I will never be able to drink a bottle of Water again, wondering how you could possibly get all the Protein in each day as well as the water and my first (of many) stalls.
I know its been said thousands of time before but every day just gets better and better.
The incisions have pretty much healed and the bruising is all but gone. I drink water freely I can even get a couple of gulps down to satisfy thirst. I am still working on the eating I don't chew enough and I need to slow down to get more in and man does it hurt when I have that one bite too much but still I try and cram it in (will I ever learn)
My energy levels are back maybe as I started my Vitamins as well and working on building up my muscles again. I am playing golf walking hilly courses carrying my bag, I am back at crossfit lifting light weights and avoiding burpees and riding my bike.
My only concern right now is a discomfort internally around my sleeve sometimes when I stretch or when I lie on my side it feels very tender which I didn't have initially but hoping this is just part of the heeling
I am eating 3 small meals a day and a Protein Shake to get in my protein, tolerating everything I have tried so far so usually eat about 3oz of beef, chicken, tuna or an egg for a meal.
Finally I seem to be loosing again after a week long stall .... 17lbs down
Hope everyone else is doing well

So I seem to have the honor of being the first into a stall but hey someone had to be first. I did talk to my NUT just to make sure I had my target numbers right and to check on calories as we didn't really talk about that before.
She said that its very common especially for women to have stalls fairly early on, the longest she has seen it last is about 3 weeks. She also reminded me that I lost 30 lbs just before surgery and my body knows that as well. So the stall will break and I will be off loosing again sometime in the next week or so max
She did say that my calorie intake was a bit low at around 350/400 and I should be trying to up it towards 800 a day. Keep getting all the liquids in and if I can bring my Protein up over 80 or even higher then great but as long as its over 60 all good. I feel better about going for more calories with cross fit I really feel my body would need more with also playing so much golf and biking so I will definitely work on that.
Even though the scale is not moving I do feel the inches are still coming off, finally last night I walked into a pre league social and people actually commented how much weight I have lost ... thank the lord 45 lbs down and nobody had mentioned it before. Even though most of the weight is pre surgery I do think I have lost most of the inches post surgery, and the tape measure backs it up. I also just had to apply for a new Visa for a trip to india its been two years since the last time OMG comparing the photos is night and day I cant believe how fat my face looked back to my old self now ... very happy about that

For some reason the site gives you starting weight and your current weight and not your surgery weight. I am 15lbs down in 3 weeks since surgery a lot more of the april sleevers have lost a lot more than me. I am entering my second week of a stall and I am taking it on the chin, doing what I am told to do and working hard at it. Apparently a rough guide is 20-30lbs in the first month.

Had surgery last Tuesday and was over 300lbs.

Went home on Thursday and have had no painkillers, pain or issues healing since then.

Best decision I've made after marrying my hubby and be prepared for a day or so of feeling bad but IT WILL IMPROVE.

    good luck

Hey. There's been a lot of activity on the April Sleevers support group if you want to see more updates.

I am 2 weeks post op and on soft foods. I can just about get a poached egg down but that's the absolute capacity even a sip of Water on top hurts. So that's Breakfast. I can also get a pouch of tuna down for lunch and then have a shake to make up the Protein. They now go down quicker and don't taste quite as bad as they did in the liquid stage. Every day is better and I can drink and eat more. I went back to work day 4 and was walking a couple of miles a day.

Got back on the golf course day 10 and was able to walk and carry bag for 9 holes.

It's definitely a work in progress and I'm only down 14lbs but no regrets and very excited for what's to come.

I had my bypass surgery on April 11th, and lost about 18 lbs in one week. However, since then, the weight is the same and frankly it's unbelievably frustrating.
Does anyone know why this might be happening?

I'm 9 days since surgery and have had a rough day today. I've had the why the hell did I do this and beating myself up. Doesn't help that every other stinking commercial on tv is people laughing, eating and enjoying themselves in a restaurant. I keep trying to tell myself as soon as I start feeling normal again and not struggling to get enough Water in and Protein it will be better and I'll be so much happier.

bs19gal reacted to B.Annie in Another Patient Death at A Lighter Me (ALM) with Dr. Jose Luis Curiel Marchena
I'm confused as to why this is an argument.
#1 there are very big risks to this surgery. We all are informed of that going in. We do it for the reward in spite of the risk. So someone died. Tragic event and all together possible. Why deny this one when we know it's a risk?
#2 how hard is it to sign a contract saying you'll bring an adult companion with you to Mexico and then bring a teen companion? Saying it's not possible to bring a teen is like saying it's not possible to lie. Goodness.
#3 Not every surgeon has deaths for the simple fact that some Surgeons are a bit more picky on whom they operate on - agreeing to less risky patients or requiring patients take steps to become less risky (ex. lose weight) prior to authorization. If you haven't seen "my 600 pound life" where it discusses surgeons who refuse to operate on certain individuals, then you haven't done the most basic of research. Though asking your own surgeon is probably easier. People go to Mexico for surgery usually because they want a cheaper and more easily approved surgery with a surgeon who won't deny them so quickly or require more effort on the patient part before hand. The fact that more people die on a table with this route is the risk you take when you choose cheap and "easy" over harder and more expensive. If you're shocked by it, then I fear you haven't considered common sense.

What I have found is that no one really pays that much attention. I have lost 45lbs since I started this journey and nobody notices. Its not that much of a % body weight change so I wouldn't worry they will probably just see a more glowy happy you :-)
Biggest issue I have is the continual questioning on why I am not drinking, every single time I go out, sooner or later they will get used to it. I haven't ventured into eating out with friends yet, I am dreading the questions on how much I eat so avoiding as long as possible.
Just enjoy the weight loss my scales are going up

Actually each plan is different. The best way to find out is submit a pre approval with dummy date. I'm UCH and had no supervised diet requirements just medical necessity at 40+ BMI. My first appointment was Nov 28th I could have had surgery as early as Feb.

My WLS was convinced I needed the 6 mths supervised diets because other UHC patients had been denied but I insisted they submit which they did in Feb, they did and it was approved in 3 days

UHC has many plans in many states for many employers each can be different.

I'm going to my two week follow up today. I'm down 19lbs but suffering from tremendous pain at one of my incisions. Hurts to move much. Already had a Cat Scan to rule out hernia. I need to get back to work but not sure how I will be able to sit in my office. food wise going ok. Had egg salad yesterday that was good but stomach was not fully ready for it. Tuna fish was easier to process. But everyday is still the best day of my life. I feel like this is the start of a new life. We have all been reborn.

That's a really good suggestion is there anyway to talk to your surgeon or their office. It's always so reassuring to speak to someone so experienced in this area. You need the Protein for healing as well.
Hoping you feel better very soon. This will all be great in the end.

Have you tried the BariWise Soups I loved them and found them such a life saver from the sweet Protein Shakes. I had a variety pack and loved every flavor. It was so nice to have something savory and warm. They have 15g on Protein in them.
I am not going to complain for sure but its not so easy on the next stage either. I managed a mashed up poached egg and salad cream .. delish took a while but I got through. I tried this afternoon to have some tuna salad and just full up and couldn't manage more than a few small bites.
Now I am so full I am behind with my fluids and down on my protein. oh well will try again tomorrow and see if I can do better.

I hope the doctor can help with the fatigue. I just saw mine this morning and he said that any surgery will take your stamina away so hopefully it just need time, but wow your weigh loss is fab much better than me. Keep up your positive attitude you'll get there for sure.
I got moved onto soft foods so I am working my way through my first egg, poached and mashed up with low fat salad cream. Trying to take it very slow but boy do I want to woof this down !!! Doc cleared me to go back to pretty much normal activities so signing back up with Crossfit the gym and signing up for all my golf tournaments. Very excited to have got to this stage, still a long way to go but I feel I can start building a routine which works better for me and keeps my out of trouble and temptation.
    Good luck with the doc.

I sat on the sofa last night and was saying what a difference a week makes !!! last week I was just home from the hospital and totally out of it and in a lot of pain, still anxious of what the new norm would be like. A week later I had been to the driving range, ate all my Protein, drunk all my fluids and done a 2 mile walk, my BMI is now under 40 (still a long way to go but got to Celebrate the milestones on the way) I even sneaked in some soft food as a test and went well. First post op appointment with the Doc tomorrow.
Hoping to move onto the next stage tomorrow and get signed off for activities as I have 36 holes of golf booked this weekend :-) I also want to start lifting again to get some muscle and strength back.
Hope everyone else is doing well.

I was lucky and was able to take a full 4 weeks from work. Which was nice so I could just focus on my new eating habits and healing. I can eat about one and a half chicken legs. I bake them in the oven add a little lemon pepper. I ate two full chicken legs last night (no sides just straight chicken) and regretted it. I didn't think those two-three extra bites would matter much but I could feel the overfullness. I drink the Protein Shake in the morning for Breakfast to help make sure I am getting enough Protein. I also broil small lean pork chops or the frozen tilapia fillets their about 3-4 ounces. I can eat one of those with maybe a tablespoon of mash potato or a 1/4 cup of chopped steamed squash. The large incision is the only one that still kinda bugs me. But the other ones just look like little scratches now lol. I hate that my stomach gurgles all the time. My friend who is a few years post surgery said it goes away eventually. I made myself a small "splurge" breakfast to get a break from the shake this morning, one egg, and three of those Farmer John "lil Smokies" THREE! I use to eat 4 eggs and like 20 of those smokies. It's amazing the difference.

I don't fall into the category myself but having been trolling these forums for a while in preparation there doesn't seem to be any difference in success rate based on starting weight. Success it seems is purely based on making the necessary life style changes (which you seem to have in hand) and using the tool to your advantage. I am sure you will be a rock star and love what the tool can do for you.
