WHy am I so scared of a bypass?

I agree. Don't be afraid. I had my surgery on January 4th if this year. I'm only 4/8 and I weighed 213. I now weigh 115 and I feel better than I ever have. I did not have any problems with dehydration like I feared. My only problem is I'm not consuming the protein I am supposed to and I have lost some hair. Thank God I had a head full and was able to stand some hair loss though. I eat what I want, when I want. It's a matter of stop eating when you are full. It takes very little for me and I'm beyond full. Half of a sandwich and im stuffed. I haven't felt this great about myself in a long time. I don't think you would go wrong but I do have one concern. I don't think I would go through all of this just to loose 10 more lbs. I would think very hard about it if I were you.

    Drink liquid

Does anyone know how long we will only be able to sip a little every 10 minutes? Will this be something we have to do from now on or is this just temporary?

    Tired

From what the doc says yes this is normal. I have also experienced some insomnia. No matter what time I go to bed I'm gonna be wide awake at 4:00. Didn't too much mind when I was Putney of work due to the surgery but I'm back at work now and I need my rest. Try to get as much rest as you can. I had my surgery on 1/4

3 1/2 months post op ulcer

Erin. Good luck with your surgery. I'm bout the same as you. I was doing great. Was able to eat anything but watching portions then this pain started. Was your stomach painful to the touch and did it hurt to swallow? Even when I take a sip of water it feels like I'm swallowing rocks. Hope this passes very soon

3 1/2 months post op ulcer

Just found out today I have an ulcer also. That's what they say they saw on CT Scan. Years ago I had an ulcer and I don't remember it being like this. My stomach hurts right at the breast bone and the pain radiates under my ribs and then through my chest and ends under my left shoulder blade. It's so tender to the touch that I was crying when the dr pressed on the area that was hurting. I'm just not sure this is an ulcer and I'm scared cause I can think of what it could be

    15 hrs post op

Please don't let this discourage you in any way. All this happened with the first 48 hours and that's why I stayed 3 nights instead of 2. But once I received that new blood every thing was good. I've lost a total of 40 lbs and I'm satisfied

Tasharss yes I did. Really scared me but they said it was normal. Not everyone does it but it's normal. I lost 3 units of blood and had to have a blood transfusion. That made me feel so much better. Had to stop the blood thinners. I also started passing lots of blood through my stool.

    Scared

Yes first I would like to wish you well on your decision. Like everyone else is telling you, everyone is different. Most all the people in my nutrition class, of course we all had surgery about the same time, but no one other than me had complications. Listen to what I'm saying. Just because my complications does not mean you will do the same. The dr. said what I'm going to tell you is normal but not everyone goes through this. I've always been anemic. (Low blood and iron). My levels were a little low at the time of surgery and I did not know they were already watching for this but I lost 3 units of blood so after my surgery I was really sick and it was hard for me to move without feeling sick at my stomach or dizzy. MyBP was reaching very high too. My levels took a drastic drop, I started throwing up blood then passing massive amounts of blood through my stool as well. Once I received a blood transfusion I was great. Loosing that much blood cut my oxygen supply off is why I was feeling so bad. Only reason I was passing that much blood is because I lost it and it had to go somewhere. It was very scary. It was nothing life threatening by no means. I'm not telling you this to scare you but if by chance it happens to you, don't freak out because it is a normal thing and like they said, this doesn't happen to everyone. I just wanted you to know because I didn't know that it was a possibility if anything like this. I'm sure you will do great. Be sure to follow orders and get your liquids in. Good luck to you.
