WHy am I so scared of a bypass?

I agree. Don't be afraid. I had my surgery on January 4th if this year. I'm only 4/8 and I weighed 213. I now weigh 115 and I feel better than I ever have. I did not have any problems with dehydration like I feared. My only problem is I'm not consuming the protein I am supposed to and I have lost some hair. Thank God I had a head full and was able to stand some hair loss though. I eat what I want, when I want. It's a matter of stop eating when you are full. It takes very little for me and I'm beyond full. Half of a sandwich and im stuffed. I haven't felt this great about myself in a long time. I don't think you would go wrong but I do have one concern. I don't think I would go through all of this just to loose 10 more lbs. I would think very hard about it if I were you.

    Drink liquid

Does anyone know how long we will only be able to sip a little every 10 minutes? Will this be something we have to do from now on or is this just temporary?

    Tired

From what the doc says yes this is normal. I have also experienced some insomnia. No matter what time I go to bed I'm gonna be wide awake at 4:00. Didn't too much mind when I was Putney of work due to the surgery but I'm back at work now and I need my rest. Try to get as much rest as you can. I had my surgery on 1/4

Erin. Good luck with your surgery. I'm bout the same as you. I was doing great. Was able to eat anything but watching portions then this pain started. Was your stomach painful to the touch and did it hurt to swallow? Even when I take a sip of water it feels like I'm swallowing rocks. Hope this passes very soon

3 1/2 months post op ulcer

Just found out today I have an ulcer also. That's what they say they saw on CT Scan. Years ago I had an ulcer and I don't remember it being like this. My stomach hurts right at the breast bone and the pain radiates under my ribs and then through my chest and ends under my left shoulder blade. It's so tender to the touch that I was crying when the dr pressed on the area that was hurting. I'm just not sure this is an ulcer and I'm scared cause I can think of what it could be

    15 hrs post op

Please don't let this discourage you in any way. All this happened with the first 48 hours and that's why I stayed 3 nights instead of 2. But once I received that new blood every thing was good. I've lost a total of 40 lbs and I'm satisfied

Tasharss yes I did. Really scared me but they said it was normal. Not everyone does it but it's normal. I lost 3 units of blood and had to have a blood transfusion. That made me feel so much better. Had to stop the blood thinners. I also started passing lots of blood through my stool.

    Scared

Yes first I would like to wish you well on your decision. Like everyone else is telling you, everyone is different. Most all the people in my nutrition class, of course we all had surgery about the same time, but no one other than me had complications. Listen to what I'm saying. Just because my complications does not mean you will do the same. The dr. said what I'm going to tell you is normal but not everyone goes through this. I've always been anemic. (Low blood and iron). My levels were a little low at the time of surgery and I did not know they were already watching for this but I lost 3 units of blood so after my surgery I was really sick and it was hard for me to move without feeling sick at my stomach or dizzy. MyBP was reaching very high too. My levels took a drastic drop, I started throwing up blood then passing massive amounts of blood through my stool as well. Once I received a blood transfusion I was great. Loosing that much blood cut my oxygen supply off is why I was feeling so bad. Only reason I was passing that much blood is because I lost it and it had to go somewhere. It was very scary. It was nothing life threatening by no means. I'm not telling you this to scare you but if by chance it happens to you, don't freak out because it is a normal thing and like they said, this doesn't happen to everyone. I just wanted you to know because I didn't know that it was a possibility if anything like this. I'm sure you will do great. Be sure to follow orders and get your liquids in. Good luck to you. 15. Have you tried eating the Atkins Protein bars? They have at least 15gms and have a variety of flavors. I'm having the same problem Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. I am a little nervous that I will lose too much but with my health I would rather be too small than too big. I'm 51 and I have had 4 heart ❤️ attacks due to high cholesterol. My BP has been staying too high. I am also only 4/8 so from 198, I need to be at 110. I did the surgery to guarantee I could successfully lose 88 lbs. if by chance I lose too much I will try to address that situation at the time but for now, I just need to lose 60 more lbs Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  19. Good morning. Well I guess I will start by introducing myself. My name is Minnie and I'm from Ga. I had my surgery on 1/4/17. It was in Gainesville, Fl with Dr. Jeffery Friedman. I must say my hospital experience in Gainesville was great . My husband and I were treated great by the whole hospital staff. The one fear I had was that I would be up there having to beg for pain medicine but that didn't happen. My Dr. made sure I was comfortable. They said my surgery went fine. First night, I was in so much pain and I was so sick to my stomach. The nurse kept saying it was normal to feel the way I was feeling but I was so sick and I could not stop dry heaving and that was hurting my stomach like crazy . Late that night when I finally was able to get throw up, it was horrible, I started throwing up blood and it scared me to death . They said it was normal, then I started passing more blood through my bowels and I was getting weaker and so dizzy I wasn't able to get up and walk around as suggested. Well I lost 3 units of blood and had to have a blood transfusion. That helped more than anything. So once the new blood was given to me I was much better. I was able to come home on day 4. Couple days after being home the bleeding stopped and other than my BP staying a little high, I think things went back to normal for me. I was unable to tolerate the main medicine given to help with constipation so that was another little issue but that is starting to get better too. I have absolutely no regrets in what I did. I am able to tolerate most all soft food right now. So far I haven't over eaten yet and I'm doing ok with my fluids. I am struggling to make sure I get my Protein but I'm trying. As far as my weight, so far that's been amazing to me. I started my weight at the day of my pre-op which it was 198. On the 17th when I went for my follow up it was 178. I am great with loosing 20 lbs in 28 days. I just hope and pray all goes well. I don't see how it could not go well because I got my mind ready to do this. I did not gain this weight overnight and I won't lose it overnight. My plan is to stray strong no matter what. This surgery has given me the confidence I have needed to make this happen. 2017 will be the year that after 32 years, I will no longer be over weight. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Almost giving up! HELP!

Fiqah87 I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through. I have a friend that went through the same thing you are talking about. She got depressed from being sick all the time and just gave up. Now she is only about 50 away from where she started and she is really depressed. But also, come to find out, she quit taking her recommended medicine and Vitamins and she also started back with bad eating habits. Now she is at the realization that she got too comfortable and started eating the way she used to eat because she had lost so much weight and then due to the rapid weight gain, she started staying then she was so sick that she couldn't eat. I pray things get better for you. Good luck Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  22. That doesn't seem normal to me so I would say this is nothing to do with the surgery Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
