Mizmissy reacted to michee33 in My weight loss since august 2016
I was very excited and nervous, about getting my sleeve survey in august, and 5 months and 55 pounds lighter I can honestly say it has changed my overall health and perspective on many aspects of my mind and body. It is definitely a lifestyle change but if your dedicated to yourself and making the necessary changes it is a life changer! I rarely ever posted a "full body" pic because I was ashamed of what I saw but I finally feel now I'm ready!

Mizmissy reacted to JamieLogical in Sleeve vs bypass
It sucks you aren't given a choice. It should be your choice. I personally chose sleeve over bypass for a bunch of reasons, but it was MY choice. You should be given that same opportunity. Here are some of the reasons I chose sleeve:
No rerouting of my intestines requiring multiple joins where there could be potential leaks. No malabsorption.. sure it's great for losing weight faster, but it can also lead to lifelong deficiencies. Also, I'm a runner and it is critical for me to be able to get in enough calories to fuel my body. Removal of the unused portion of my stomach. I hated the idea of my "old" stomach still being inside me and potentially developing ulcers or cancer or something and not being easily accessible with an endoscopy. Maintain the use of my pyloric valve. I was *really* weirded out by the idea that my pyloric valve would still be there, attached to my old stomach and opening and closing uselessly in response to signals from my new stomach. Ew. No dumping. Some people like the idea of dumping, because it's a deterrent to eating bad foods, but I wanted the option to eat small amounts of sweets and carbs down the road, once I was in maintenance. Also, not everyone who has RNY gets dumping, so it's risky to assume you will. Cheaper. I was self-pay and sleeve is just downright cheaper. My BMI was also right around 40 when I started considering surgery. I managed to lose all of my excess weight and have been maintaining for 15+ months. So sleeve was definitely the best choice for me. But, again, everyone is different and should be allowed to make the best choice for themselves.

Mizmissy reacted to The New Kel in A vain NSV story.
OK, so here is a NSV I had a few days ago. I am going to admit it is kind of immature and vain. None the less, it felt really good (evil grin). Warning: long post!
My husband's sister - I will call her Shelby here- lives 4 states away and has pretty much hated me since we met. She was super close to my husband's ex-wife, the two of them are two peas in a pod. So for that reason, no matter how nice and cordial I have been to Shelby, she is outright cold and often blatantly rude to me. It goes so far as her telling my step kids off-color remarks and things she thinks about me, including one lovely piece of advice: "Just don't eat whatever Kelly eats. You don't want to end up like her, do you?"
When I met her 5 years ago, I was understandably nervous and self conscious: I had 235 lbs on my 5'3" frame. In contrast, Shelby is taller and weighed maybe 140 lbs. She is also totally into appearances and looks. After we met, she called my husband and asked how he could have "down-graded" from his ex to me. I was so hurt. (But my husband promptly stood up for me and then hung up).
I saw her three times over the past 5 years. Each time I felt so awkward and self conscious, knowing how judged I was in her eyes. It never should have mattered to me, but it did.
Last Monday, Shelby came into town for my step-daughter's dance performance and to visit my husband's ex. I am three months post op. We did not tell Shelby or anyone on his side of the family about my surgery. I have gone from a size 20/22 to a comfortable 12 and have lost 60 lbs, down to 179 and my confidence has really began to flourish. At the dance, we spotted Shelby and her two kids. She was disheveled and looked uncomfortable. Her usually perfectly made up face was smeared and she looked like she was having a hot flash. Also, she is remarkably heavier than lat time I saw her. Now I will say I do not ever judge anyone on their weight and I never will. I have had all too much judgment and so I truly have all the empathy on those like me dealing with body image issues. But I bring it up because of the irony and scathing hell I had been on the receiving end of from her.
We approached her to say hello and offer her a seat next to us. She refused, and, didn't even acknowledge me. Her face was flush and she was angry and visibly stressed. After the show my husband asked if she and the kids wanted to join us for dinner. She declined and said she was going out with my husband's ex. Again, not looking me in the eye, zero acknowledgement. I have to insert here that I was dressed nice, donned some heals, had a fresh haircut and did my makeup. (pretty fancy for a simple gal like me). I was wearing a flattering trench style long jacket that really made my waist look small.
Right before we left the dance hall I was leaving the ladles room and my husband said he saw Shelby eyeing me from behind, surveying my new shape with her eyes. I went to dinner that night feeling a huge victory. A vain one- yes. But ooooh sometimes these things just feel so good.
To come down to earth, I do have a muffin top from hell that if Shelby saw she would laugh in pure delight. I hide it well- but would LOVE to figure out how to lose! With rapid weight loss I am getting that skin, so I am trying to find ways to reduce it.

I am so pleased to say that Jan 5 marked my one month surgiversary and I am down 24 lbs from my surgery day weight of 219 lbs ( currently 195 lbs). But the real kicker is my starting weight pre op was 242 lbs so total lost is 47 lbs , yessss. Also, my birthday was Jan 5 as well and I am a beautiful 39 years young may I add. So excited and looking forward to more success in near future. My goal is 150 lbs. motivation is on point to reach it.

Well I can't believe I've made it this far. It was tough for the first 6 weeks and now I can't imagine my life any different than what it is. I went from a size 24 to a size 12 within 8 months. No sagging skin and no regrets. I eat good and live a healthier lifestyle.
Good luck to everyone just starting out!

I think it's got more to do with the amount of liquid u take at a time or how u swallow. My doctor's office will have u swallow for them to see how u swallow b4 surgery to avoid this issue. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

Mizmissy reacted to WLSResources/ClothingExch in Spouse issues ?
You're describing a situation that has many variations and isn't uncommon around here. What you left out is whether he has been taking Cookies to bed and bringing home two-by-two Snacks only since your surgery. If that's the case, he's absolutely sending a message. You might want to ask him to put it into words so that you know what's going on in your marriage. Often the underminer fears losing the spouse once he/she seems to have better options. That's just one of the usual possibilities. If he claims to being nothing more than funny, you can remind him that nothing is funny after the 28th time.

If he was in the junk-food-for-two habit before you ever thought of surgery, nothing has changed. You can sweetly ask him not to munch in your face until you have a good handle on your new way of eating, but it's tough to make it a demand. The general rule of the real world is that the one who makes the change or is the minority is the one who has to adjust to everyone else's carrying on as usual.

For a different meal choice, try extra lean ground turkey with a pack of taco mix and extra Water to make it thinner ... be sure to really break the turkey up while you are cooking it so it is very fine ... then enjoy with some melted cheddar on top. But do eat it slowly! about an ounce over 1/2 an hour should make it OK. Good luck.

Or you're eating too fast. Of you're carefully measuring your food, try using a bite timer. The denser the Protein, the longer you'll need to eat it.

Yes, you bring up food you ate to much. Measure you food into your bowl or plate and eat slowly, it didn't take me much time to find the fine last need between enough and one bite to much. I eat lots of chicken and fish. At mushy I mixed Protein with a 1/2 teaspoon of potato flakes and a tablespoon of Milk so it would be moist. Also ate lots of pureed chicken Soup, sometimes with a teaspoon of sour cream.
I make 2-5 days of meals at once. Honestly, other that an occasional craving for popcorn or chocolate, I don't care about food like I did before WLS and happily eat whatever container happens to be in the front of the shelf.

Mizmissy reacted to Djmohr in 5 Months Post-Op.. Calorie Question!
I stayed at 700 calories on average per day until i hit the 9 month post op mark. I then had a very long stall - 28 days and I was told to increase my calories by adding more veggies, fresh fruit and some Protein.
I was also told to reduce excercising from 1 hour per day to 30 minutes 5 times per week.
I increased to 800 -900 per day until I hit 1 year and then slowly increased to 1100 per day. I was still in weight loss phase until 18 months. Then increased to 1200 to 1300 per day.
I did and my stall broke. I continued to lose weight for the next 9 months until i reached my ultimate goal.
