bluey got a reaction from Rosered71 in Scared about MGB, any insight??
Hi
I am surprised to read you are having the MGB 'due to reflux'. Here in England, reflux seems to be a disqualifying condition for the MGB. The stomach pouch which is created in the process turns your stomach into a 'higher pressure valve' which is unsuitable for someone with exisiting reflux issues (this is according to my surgeon). I never had reflux issues so I had the MGB and now I suddenly do suffer from occasional reflux and indigestion/heartburn.
My friend who is using the same surgeon as me has a history of reflux issues and has therefore had to have the RNY bypass.
Please do some research and find the ideal surgery for you. It is too expensive and too much of a trauma to end up with the wrong procedure for you!

In Southampton, England. My surgeon was Dr. van den Bossche.... doubt that will be much good to you....

If this was your first Valentine's together, I'd give him the benefit of a doubt. I'd probably offer them to him to take or tell him you'll be sharing them around at work as you CANNOT eat it without puking!
If the penny does not drop after that and he buys you chocs again, then I'm sorry but he might not be the one for you. At least that would be me - I expect a minimum amount of brain power and empathy from a partner.

re: reflux - that's the total opposite from what my surgeon said to me... and I know that my friend wanted a MGB also but was told she could not have it due to her history of reflux issues...

My op is on the 5th - so in just a few days. It has all happened very quickly and I am feeling anxious.
Would love to make some friends to share the highs and lows.
I'm 43 with 2 kids and live on the English South coast.

I'm 5 days post op,
Had my surgery in Toronto, Canada. So pleased with the whole experience. Much LESS discomfort than when I had the band put in, or removed (It was the damn port).

Sleeved and back home. Everything went just fine, I think. Not too much pain so far.

bluey got a reaction from hmills653 in Regretting not having a good funeral
I didn't have a food funeral but yes, I did cheat but I figured as the purpose of the liver diet was to draw out as much glycogen as possible, I could have a little more Protein (which I was craving) and less of the carb portions. Worked out perfectly, the surgeon even gave me a specific mention for having a 'lovely and perfect' liver. Makes a change for a man to be noticing my 'inner beauty' haha

I know that's how it's supposed to work, and people keep saying that, but it's so hard to get my head around the idea. I can't even imagine it!
Thanks for the encouragement! This morning really sucks, and I know it will get worse before it gets better, so your kind words really help.

bluey, I'm glad you're out the other side and feeling good! I'm scheduled for 1/31 and starting to get nervous. Not so much about the surgery but all the stuff that comes afterwards! Getting ready to start my Protein shake/clear liquid two week pre-op diet. That stuff tastes nasty!! Good to hear others are getting thru it.
I'm in Virginia, right outside of Washington DC. But my family is from your area, at least a couple generations ago!
wireandwood, sorry you had a rough start. Hope you're starting to feel better.

I am currently drinking two 8-12oz Protein shake Meal Replacements followed by one service of lean Protein and a serving of veggies. They also have me stopping all Vitamins and most medication.
If I'm still hungry I can have some non-fat yogurt or cheese. Then only Clear liquids for two days before surgery.

Finishing my first day pre-op, too. The sugar withdrawal is not fun, but I'm surviving. And I haven't killed anyone else, either, so that's good. I had to go to a staff meeting with a grilled cheese buffet, which was pretty tortuous, but I drank a Protein drink right before and made it through without breaking. 9 days to go!

Hello my darlings!
Sorry for the late update!
I had my mini bypass surgery Thursday afternoon. I had a bit of a hard time with the anesthetic and felt like I'd been hit by a bus for the first 24 hours.
Then when I woke this morning it was as if it had never happened. I felt short of miraculous.
I'm having very little pain - basically I just feel like I need to pass wind. A lot of it. (Sorry!)
I was in with 2 other ladies who had a similar experience. So I'll say - first 24 hours is not nice but once you're through that you'll be like a new person.
There is no feeling of hunger whatsoever so I'll have to teach myself to count nutrients!
