kar12345 got a reaction from ANEWUS in Ice cream
Found a way to get fluids and Protein, and a treat. Ordered popsicle molds and made my own orange creamsicle. I use Bariatic Advantage Orange Cream shake mix (27g Protein) and use 8 oz of Fairlife nonfat milk (13g protein) instead of Water. Mix well in blender. Makes 6 popsicles. It's a little thick, so I could not drink it as a shake, but great as a frozen treat. I usually eat 2 (13g protein) or 3 (20g protein) at a time for a snack. Plus it's a Meal Replacement shake mix, so has other nutrients. Also made with Bariatric Advantage strawberry, chocolate and iced latte flavors.

Not true. Just a couple of Protein Shakes a day supplies the recommended daily Protein. With mine, it's roughly 30 grams a serving and I would drink 2 a day. Recommended is 60-80 grams a day.

I was sleeved Jan 12th. Weight loss slowed down for me - and it has made me sad and frustrated at times. You are not alone! I've read a lot about how stalls occur - and we just have to push through them. Hang in there!!!

YES! This is totally normal. My doctor, nutritionist, nurst, psychiatrist, prep binder and even office staff have drilled into my mind that the first month or so, I'm going to be completely miserable. I wish your doctor had warned you so you could brace yourself. I've been told it goes away after a few weeks. Hang in there!

I went to Dr Illan. While he is very good, I still wanted to protect my wallet, house, etc from the unknown. So I bought medical insurance to cover complications up to 6 months after the sleeve. It doesn't pay it all but it would reimburse for a portion of it.

Forgot to post earlier this week to update my 6 week follow-up appointment. So far so good on everything. Getting back to regular foods has been wonderful of course. That 2 weeks before surgery and the 4 weeks of liquids & pureed was rough but it also was a valuable learning period to know the difference between real hunger and head hunger.
My appointment was uneventful. My weight loss has tapered off a bit in the past two weeks. It had been about a pound a day but for the past week or so my weight had been stuck around 285 with some back and forth. Today I came in at 283 and that puts be at 35 lbs down in 6 weeks. I'll take it! I admit I was starting to mildly freak out with the stuck scale but I knew things would slow down a bit at some point.
I got my old gym membership going and will be hitting it for the first time in a long time starting today. Since my sciatica is doing better I'm hopeful I can have a decent workout for once without being in terrible pain. And I'm also not dreading going to the gym. May sound dumb but when I'm focused on going to lift and build muscle I love going to the gym. When it was all about weight loss and doing cardio I loathed going, so I'm actually excited to be getting back at it.
I won't see my doc again until 12 weeks out and am pretty much cleared to eat all foods again. Our office has a support group meeting once a month and will be going to that in a few weeks to see some old faces and keep some accountability going for myself. At this point just knocking on wood for continued improvements and fingers crossed that my initial complications were just a matter of getting that out of the way a head of time so I don't have any future episodes.

You can take this as a life lesson and an opportunity. These are the very people you can safely exclude from your life from this point forward. The best revenge is to be happy. Show them that their opinion means nothing to you. You won't just be able to say they don't mean anything to you, you have to remove them from your life. Otherwise they will eventually sabotage you. Not just in your weight loss, but at anything that makes your life happier than theirs.

Mine started at 2 months and quit at 9. Fortunately I have enough hair for 2 people so it wasn't traumatic for me but it was unsettling to see so much hair in the drain after a shower. Only took regular bariatric supplements. My dr said nothing would keep it from happening. My eyelashes were already very thin (I'm 61 and that's normal) but I started using latisse which is rogaine for eyes. Works beautifully.

The same thing happened to me. I was consistently nauseous for 5 days and I went to the ER 3x and begged for fluids because I could not eat or drink anything.
    Then it just passed..

Sleeved 1/12. I'm glad I started drinking Protein Drinks off and on for meals, and taking post op Vitamins before the surgery. Allowed time to try different kinds, and it didn't seem so dramatic when I started the pre op diet and now in the post op diet. Also, get your house / errands in order (as best you can) before surgery - need to rest and let your body heal.

Wow, this post got my hopes up. I hope that when my time comes, I will be able to offset some costs and save on Protein shakes. I wish someone had time to compile different insurance and prescription providers.
I have BlueCross/BlueShield Federal Employee Program (Standard)(better than Basic) and prescriptions is covered by CVS caremark. http://www2.caremark.com/fep/?benefits-summary Fingers crossed!!!

Kar12345, I feel for you! Take care. Back pain can prevent us from doing so much, and I don't know about you, but I get really depressed about it. I have degenerative discs, and was using a walker most of the time. Since surgery I can go on short walks without it. My dr. Is sending me to physical therapy, where I get on the anti gravity treadmill. Seems to help.

Have a bad back and have had chronic pain and nerve problems for a few years. The surgery has helped me immensely! I can do so much more, so much more freedom. So much less pain.

Tens units can be helpful, also Salonpas are amazing if you can handle the adhesive Patches.
Exercises and PT are essential too. Best of luck and I hope this helps you.

    All the best

Thanks brch! PT has helped me through a few times - depending on how this goes, I might be back at it. Great progress on your walking!! PT will surely help!! And we will both lose lots more weight, and take all that strain off our backs!! Haha!

I was sleeved Jan 12, 2017 and felt a lot of hunger the first few weeks. Some one recommended drinking Water whenever hungry, and that seemed to help. Plus, getting fluids in!! The hunger cravings seemed to get better once well into purée phase.
