    CIGNA - supervised diet requirement

Cigna here also. 4 months from start to surgery. September kicked things off with the Bariatric program information session and scheduled my first nutritionist appointment the same week. I did the same thing and checked with Cigna on the requirements. Cigna said I could do 3 months supervised diet with a nutritionist and they gave me some names of those in their network. I had to do at least one nutritionist visit with the Bariatric surgeons office, but it was not close to my home. So I picked a nutritionist close by to meet with me 4 times (September, October, November, and December), and she documented my diet, exercise and weight. In parallel, my surgeon let me do all the pre-op appointments and tests. So timing wise, it worked out well and i had my nutritionist send my 3-month supervised diet chart notes to the surgeon immediately after my 4th appointment. By that time, I completed all the other Cigna and surgeons prerequisites and just needed the last piece from the nutritionist. Paperwork submitted week before Christmas, and approved in one week!!!! Then was able to schedule surgery mid-January. I will say it was a very very busy time, particularly because I also had to get appointments and clearances from 4 other specialists. So right away I started scheduling those. In the end, the 3 months worked out to be just the right amount of time to fit everything in ( oh and work full time and have a family, etc). So knowing your insurance requirements up front is the best thing to do!!! Best of luck!!
  5. I'm two months post sleeve surgery. HW 236, SW 226 (Sleeved 1/12/17), CW 199, GW 136 1 week Pre-op: 10 lbs month 1: 16 lbs month 2: 11 lbs I'm nervous the weight loss will continue to slow down considerably, but I understand too much too fast may not be good either. I think because I've lost this amount of weight before without surgery, I fear the same cycle of the past - the weight loss stops, and then the weight comes back quickly. Lots going on in my head!!

    Ice cream

Let me know how it goes!! Can try any Protein Shake really. I made some popscicles with the ready made Premier Protein chocolate shake too - even easier, just open and pour. I think I'll go have a pop now!!! [emoji2]

    Ice cream

Found a way to get fluids and protein, and a treat. Ordered popsicle molds and made my own orange creamsicle. I use Bariatic Advantage Orange Cream shake mix (27g Protein) and use 8 oz of Fairlife nonfat milk (13g protein) instead of Water. Mix well in blender. Makes 6 popsicles. It's a little thick, so I could not drink it as a shake, but great as a frozen treat. I usually eat 2 (13g protein) or 3 (20g protein) at a time for a snack. Plus it's a Meal Replacement shake mix, so has other nutrients. Also made with Bariatric Advantage strawberry, chocolate and iced latte flavors.

    Is depression normal?

I was sleeved Jan 12th. Weight loss slowed down for me - and it has made me sad and frustrated at times. You are not alone! I've read a lot about how stalls occur - and we just have to push through them. Hang in there!!!
  10. Glad to hear things have improved!!!

    Bad back

Thanks brch! PT has helped me through a few times - depending on how this goes, I might be back at it. Great progress on your walking!! PT will surely help!! And we will both lose lots more weight, and take all that strain off our backs!! Haha!

    Bad back

Hi! I too have back issues. Severe lower back and sciatica pain comes and goes. I'm 7 weeks post op and my recovery has been very good, no complications ......until this week. Hurt my back at the gym doing some light weights. I tried so hard to not over do it. In severe pain last few days. Saw chiropractor for an adjustment, going back again Monday. My PCP prescribed a prednisone pack to help with inflammation since ibuprofen is not allowed for now after surgery. And ice. It's funny, losing the weight is expected to help reduce these episodes - but I gotta get through this to resume exercising. Been feeling discouraged- but hopefully this too will pass! HW 236, SW 226 (Sleeved 1/12/17), CW 203, GW 136
  16. I was sleeved Jan 12, 2017 and felt a lot of hunger the first few weeks. Some one recommended drinking Water whenever hungry, and that seemed to help. Plus, getting fluids in!! The hunger cravings seemed to get better once well into purée phase.

    Drink liquid

I'm over 5 weeks and drinking is fine. Each day drinking got better after surgery - I saw a big improvement around 2 1/2 weeks. Keep sipping - every sip counts!
  19. SW 226 (Sleeved 1/12/17), CW 207, so lost 19 lbs since surgery. At 5 and a half weeks now, and scale has not moved in 4 days.

    January Sleevers Check-In

HW 236, SW 226 (Sleeved 1/12/17), CW 207, GW 136-150. My short term goal is to get into the 100's - have not seen that in a looonnnnnggg time!

    Wow restrictions

I start soft foods tomorrow - I was thinking one scrambled egg to start! Will see how it goes!! It's a journey!!
  23. I had a lot of head hunger after surgery. I read early on that drinking Water helps (plus, we need to get our fluids in). However it was hard to drink that much In the beginning post op. About 2-3 weeks after surgery drinking water became much easier. Now, when I'm hungry I grab some water - and it helps with the hunger. Sleeved 1/12/17.
  24. Best wishes!! Sleeved 1/12/17!
