Hey venting is venting and if you need to get it out just vent anywhere it's better than keeping it inside. Sent from my 0PM92 using the BariatricPal App

Honestly letting go of the food didn't bother me as much as letting go of my clothes.
The food part is honestly pretty short. You have 6 months of healing, 12 months to lose the bulk of your weight and maybe about another 6 months to lose some weight. The weight loss phase where your food choices are limited is pretty small in the big scheme of things. Once you get to goal or close you have things you like in moderation. As long as you are good like 90% of the time.
You should think about what you can gain, not what you are losing.
I care more about all my shoes and clothes I gave anyway than any one food.

I haven't been on here long but I can count the three people I have seen, since I joined not too long ago, who troll these forums with no niceties whatsoever. They quickly judge and shoot down someone with no thoughts to feelings. It's like they were mean fat people that got skinny and didn't bother to leave the mean part of themselves behind. Anyway, how can I block them??? Is there any way?
I'd prefer to read encouraging remarks. Sure you don't have to agree, but you can do constructive criticism without the attacks!

pvechiola reacted to MrsPenguin in My surgery was yesterday... so much pain!
Some of the gas is from the CO2 that is trapped in your abomination cavity. The surgeons use it to inflate your abdomen during surgery. In addition, your intestines are 'shocked' from the surgery and the result is lots of gas. So you are dealing with 2 types of gas. The GasX will only help the intestinal gas. Your body absorbs the CO2, but it takes several days. It's uncomfortable, as those of us who have been through it can attest, but the good news is, it gets better every day. Walking helps a lot too.

The pain will pass in a few days. As others have said, chewable Gas X is your friend! Hang in there, it will soon be a distant memory. It's all worth it in the end!

I laid in pre op for 8 hrs because there were two emergency surgeries my surgeon had to handle so I finally went into the OR at 8 pm, was out of surgery by 10 pm, got my room and had to pee so instead of the commode i wanted to walk to the bathroom, pain or not. I walked the halls the next day, determined to get out of the hospital. I was discharged the day after surgery at 1 pm. The following few days I had horrible gas pains and incision pain but it was tolerable. I was able to go to my work christmas party 8 days after surgery, I was feeling great. Over the past few weeks I have had a lot of nausea and Constipation but i take meds for both. Overall , its just taking it day by day and learning to get fluids in and some food. At first Water felt like a brick but I changed to smart Water and it was a lot easier to drink. A few of my friends had 0 nausea so they are lucky. Good luck to you

    Hi everyone!
I up at 3:30 and must be to work at 8 AM! But I can't sleep. My surgery date was originally for February 1st but scheduling conflict it was changed to the 6th. I freaked out on having the Sleeve and called to ask if I can have the Bypass instead. Well they are working in making that change and hoping I can still keep my original date.
I am 240 lbs at 5'5 I have sleep apnea, PCOS and Fibromyalgia not to mention rheumatoid arthritis.... I just turned 40!!!!! This extra weight has had me out and about at the mall and worried about how I'm going to make it to my car because I am so out of breath.
I have had my big friends and family tell me I'm not that big. I'm taking the easy way out. But then one admitted to wanting to do it as well after baby #4 and a coworker who frowned and said all the negative wanted to know how it all worked with our insurance because she was thinking about having it.
I have also had supportive family members who just don't know what to say other than "you are going to be skinny!"
My boss is all of 100 lbs wet at 4'11 and she is so dead set against it because I'm not that big. She has said this so much that I have stopped wearing a Spanx to work! Now she blames it in everything I think I want to eat! She's all about herbal medicine.
Meanwhile I'm worried about if I can take Cymbalta with the Bypass or should I go back to the Sleeve? I'm worried about losing my hair... I have dread locs! The last thing I need is to look like Stevie Wonder!!!Lol
But I do know that I want this surgery! I just don't know which one to have. It feels like Election Day 2008 all over again!!!! Lol
Ok I'm getting sleepy but advice is welcomed.... thank you.

Mine didn't get THAT bad. I lost heavily from about 3.5 months to 5.5 months post-op, then it all started growing back. Honestly all the new little baby hairs sticking out everywhere once it started coming back were more noticeable than the thinning hair had been.

I can't wait for Saturday 7 Jan 2017 to be over and done with. I was asked to be the chairperson for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Voice of Democracy for the 4th District in the Department of Michigan. The original chairperson had done the event for years and had everything electronically. Over the past couple oars, this person had quit many times and was always begged to reconsider and do the event. This year after he quit, he was not asked to reconsider and he got mad an deleted everything that he had electronically. I had to redo the program/ad book from scratch, redo the certificates, the seating chart, the student bios and the winning plaques. This is a job for someone who is retired and has extra time. I am under so much stress to get this event done and done correctly. The event is Saturday night and I can not wait for it to be done and over with. Oh and on top of vent, I am campaigning for a State Level VFW position that requires me to travel all over the State of Michigan. I seriously think that all this stress is why I am currently at a stall. Oh well, I guess it is my fault since I am the stupid one who said that I would do it. People know I never say no so they use that to get me to do whatever they need done. Next year I am going a step back from the VFW (unless I win the State Level Position) and let other people step up.
Sorry, I just realized that I didn't start this post in rants.

After surgery, when on the full liquid stage... Protein Shakes and broth will count towards your 64 ounces of liquids too.

I was signed up for wls about 2 years ago and cancelled it because I lost about 50 lbs at one time but I also gain it back it's a mess, I joined up for wls again and I have about 3 nutritionist classes left. I had the sleep study done and it took 2 months just to get scheduled for the study. Hopefully I will be on my way in May. Sent from my 0PM92 using the BariatricPal App

Yeah, definitely frustrating it wasn't communicated to you sooner. It's such a long, tedious process in the first place. Sucks to have it drag on even longer than necessary.

I definitely agree, I just feel like that should have been communicated much more strongly in the past 6 months!! I mean, in the sense that it was something I definitely had to adopt or else surgery wouldn't happen. My goals for this past month were to do more strength training, cook at home at least once a week, and keep the food diary...no mention of the number of carbs.

I know it's very frustrating, but it really is going to set you up for greater success post-op. A month seems like a SUPER long time right now, but it's worth the trade off if it buys you years and years of health and happiness down the road, right?
Carbs are a HUGE problem for nearly all of us post-op. It's so so so critical to get your Protein in and in the very early months post-op, you will simply not have room to waste on carbs. Kicking that carb habit is critical for long-term success. While I've never subscribed to the whole "carbs are the enemy" mentality that a lot of WLS patients end up living by, it's a simple issue of space in those early months. When you can only eat a couple of ounces of food a few times a day, they HAVE to be Protein in order for you to meet your protein requirements. There's simply no room for carbs. So you really will be doing yourself a favor to start adapting to that mentality pre-op. It's tough for sure!

pvechiola reacted to JamieLogical in I am so emotional!
We store hormones in our fat. As fat breaks down, those hormones are released back into our systems. It is incredibly common to be moody, emotional, and irrational as you are rapidly breaking down fat.
Edit: PS, if you are a female of child-bearing age, that release of hormones can also make you extremely fertile, so make sure you are using back-up birth control!

For me, I always thought of weight LOSS surgery as more of weight MAINTENANCE surgery. I had managed to lose a lot of weight MANY times over the years, but always gained it back. So even though I lost weight pretty quickly and easily during my pre-op stuff, I knew I would still need the surgery to keep it off.

I lost 99 pounds (from 397 to 298) during my six-month, insurance-required diet program. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I completely re-defined my relationship with food and optimally prepared myself for success post-op.
