I'd lost 75 pounds by then, and a bit more than 80 now. I went from a tight size 14 / XL to a size 2 / XS. I had long stalls along the way, but they'd eventually break and I'd regain momentum with weight loss. The benefit of losing slowly was no loose skin, and minimal Hair loss. Best wishes to you!

Congratulations on your weight loss so far. If you lost at that rate, in six months you would lose ~65 pounds.
This is a journey not a race, you are doing great.

I'm slowly losing it too. My starting weight was 298 I'm a little under 5'9. I had surgery the end of April. I've only loss 67 lbs so far. The way I see it is my body needs more time then others to adjust and heal. Plus the slower you lose it the less loose skin you'll have. Be patient and keep making healthy choices. It will pay off over time.

Thank you for your words of wisdom. I didn't think 242lbs would be in the category of those who lost slow. I thought at 242 I could expect to lose chunks of weight at a time like everyone else. Sent from my SM-G935T using the BariatricPal App

you're what we in the bariatric community call a "lightweight" (I don't know what the actual weight requirements are to be considered a "lightweight", but I'd say under 250 lbs). Lightweights lose slower than us heavier folks because they have a lot less to lose. I know you read about people losing 30 lbs the first month, but those folks are few and far between and usually weigh over 300 lbs.
Your body's going to lose at the rate it wants to lose. The only control you have is to stick to your program. I was a "slow loser", and I have lost 227 lbs. It'll come off, whether fast or slow, if you stick to your program.

Lise2021 reacted to Michelle920 in So How Many Of You Guys Want To Actually Get Down To A Normal BMI?
At my lowest adult weight, my BMI is barely "normal." My current goal weight gives me a BMI of 25.2 and I'm fine with that. My boyfriend, who is in excellent shape and has never had a weight problem, has a BMI that classifies him as obese. I know a few weight lifters in that same boat. I also have normal sized friends who are classified underweight and look fine. IMHO BMI doesn't take enough into consideration, and the only time I ever gave it any thought was when qualifying for surgery.

I would advise that you not buy hardly ANY new clothes because you will keep losing and will have wasted your money. Dig through your old clothes that you haven't been able to wear because they were too small, and try to make them work while you're still losing. ['Wow! I can wear this!!?" That is fun! ] I did buy some jeans from Walmart, and even one pair is too large. Two years ago, I bought some dresses in size 14 from Marshall's, but they are now too large. SO don't waste your money buying.
I had some skirts and pants taken in last year; now, they are too big on me. I refuse to pay the cleaners/tailor again to alter them, so I'm going to do it myself [whenever].
Re: all my old fat clothes...hmm. In October/November, I sorted through at least 1,000 pieces of clothes. Donated some to the homeless shelter. But so many of them are really nice things that I can't give them away. I also gave some suits and dresses to Dress for Success.
I'm going to have a curvy woman clothing yard sale this spring to try to move those items that remain. 4 bins full of really nice stuff in sizes 16-22. Even a St. John suit, some other stuff.

Personally I don't have any old smaller clothes, so I'll be shopping Goodwill, and wearing dresses with leggings that can fit multiple sizes.

I haven't had my surgery yet, but one thing I was looking into was Gwynnie Bee, which is a clothing rental subscription service that caters to larger sizes (12 and up, I believe). It's basically like Netflix (well, when it first started and they sent you actual DVDs) for clothes - wear something, return it, they send you something else. It's not an everyday clothes solution, but would be great for those times when you need a nice dress, more professional clothing, or even just something fun to wear. Of course, it is an extra monthly expense, so depending on your budget, it may not be entirely reasonable.
Other than that, thrift stores, clearance racks, and TJ Maxx all day long.
@Dr-Patient - I LOVE the idea of the curvy girl yard sale! When I (hopefully) get to the point of needing to get rid of clothes, I will definitely have to do that.

I do a fairly big shop every six weeks or so (although now that I'm slowing down on losing, that's going to change ). Now that I'm in "regular" sizes I go to Loft, banana Republic, Kohl's and Old Navy. I use coupons and look for sales. Right after the holidays I bought three dresses, three blouses and two pair of pants for under $100. You just have to look for sales and check the clearance racks, and watch for coupons/supercash/Kohl's cash etc.

Goodwill. Most have certain sales too
Color of the week give me 50% off. Most have a designer section but it's obvious whomever is sorting doesn't know their designers. I'll often find white stag in that section. Walmart. Then in the regular section I found a gorgeous pair of lucky Brand $3 with a 50%off. My price $1.50.

I used to keep everything..my fat clothes, my skinny clothes and the ones that actually fit. Lol. I LOVE getting rid of my fat clothes and realizing that I will NEVER be that size again! Currently I'm getting into a lot of my skinny clothes, but every month or so I get rid of the stuff that doesn't fit, I take it to the second hand shop. With every donation they give me a voucher for 30% percent off, so I try and pick up a few items.

    From a guys Perspective
If a guy makes advances toward you then obviously you have Characteristics that he likes. Don't let your self-conscious thoughts stop you from being intimate. I have found that women that have been Bigger put a lot more effort into pleasing their partner than women that don't have to work as hard to attract a man. Honestly one of the few turn offs for me in the Bedroom is a woman that wont let her self go and enjoy the moment and instead is constantly wondering if i find her attractive. We all have body issues whenever I was in the Marines at 162lbs I still thought I was fat. I am going to give you the Ultimate thing to remember "Fake It Till You Make It" well don't Fake everything lol!!!

    hello all-
new to this site... okay so im a 24 year old female from NY & ive been struggling with my weight for what feels like forever.. okay, since I was 11.. practically forever though. ive been on every diet you could imagine and even had the lap band put in back in 2011.. 5 years later and got it removed because all it was doing was making me sick. truth be told- I was 18 at the time of the procedure and my whole self wasn't in it. I wasn't mentally prepared and I didn't realize that I still had to put in work.. when you're young you don't really listen to what others say and that's obviously where I went wrong. now im getting the sleeve done in hopefully 2 weeks.. if not- gotta wait til march...
my reason for writing this is because im tired. not only physically but emotionally too. im used to the stares. im used to the name calling. im used to being treated differently because of my weight. but you never really get used to feeling alone in a crowded room. no one understands!! I try to explain it to them but unless you're 300+ pounds youll never understand. one of my friends is overweight but not nearly as big as me. so she doesn't understand how it feels when im in a "bad" mood. I cant help but feel the way I do. I know that if I was at a normal weight I wouldn't be so angry all the time. im mostly angry at myself for allowing myself to get this way.angry at others for judging me and angry at my friends for not understanding. but how could they? I guess what im asking of you all is to just be there for me. to support me through the start of my journey.. or the next chapter of it. i need people who get it. im ready more than ever.. both physically and mentally. i would love a chance to get to know you all...
    im angela btw

Hello everyone, Warning beware of jealous people in your life. So my now ex but also my daughters father has as I feel always tried to sabotage me. I gained close to 100 pounds in the last 6 years since I've been with him had a baby got super comfortable and let myself go. Well since my surgery and before he was never with my lifestyle change he would bring fast food and candy into the house, he didn't work out with me on a regular basis (and mind u he is athletic and a boxer) there was no genuine encouragement nor support. He was and is a serial cheater. He told a girl he cheated on me with about me getting the surgery before i even had it and just recently told another woman i believed to be a friend but he was sleeping with her too that I had the surgery and now I think i'm better than ppl and they laughed about how I'm still big and my body gone be a mess (I seen the messages) the disrespect is at an all time high. Bottom line is I am better than what they obviously thought of me. This change has been the best thing that has ever happened to me, I'm happy about life again, I see the changes in me mentally, spiritually, and physically. I'm looking forward to the future and learning not to settle or accept anything I'm discovering my worth and now I'm glad I can close that chapter in my life and looking forward to my journey and finding someone new that sees the Goddess in me

    Well, 3 months + 1 week
I can feel the beginning of carb/sweets cravings. I've gotta get this in check asap.
So I decided to cut and paste my "before" and "now" pics side by side. I may need to tape this to my fridge. Unlike many, I've felt hunger, real hunger from very early on. I seemed to heal quickly and have had absolutely zero intolerances. I'm quickly finding out that I like sweet stuff way too much. Thought I had more control than this. No regrets, but no illusions either, this is going to be work for the rest of my life, sigh.
For now I'll take solace in each little victory. I've been telling my husband I don't think I look all that different, but the side by side pics are an eye opener and good for continued motivation.
    3 months progress
