ilgc got a reaction from flyingcarb in Getting Cold Feet
Literally all I can say is don't think too much about it. I would have panic attacks thinking about the surgery and on my surgery date I just .. forced myself to think about it differently (my mom had RNY along with other painful surgeries n she said it was the easiest thing, just thinking about my loved ones who underwent surgery and made it out helped so much lmao) and less. Also it might help to ask questions / step by step on the procedure even if you know it all, hearing my surgeon talk so confidently about it eased my fears of an incompetent surgeon.
Anyway i wish you the best and a smooth recovery ❣️[emoji261]

Weight loss is not always a steady drop, but can come in waves. Stalls can happen. It will slow down and level off when you reach the Maintenance phase. But at one month post-op, that is way too soon to be worried about that.

ilgc reacted to Flippista in Medical Alert Bracelets
I don't use an alert Bracelet but I update my medical info on my phone. I have an iPhone and my medical info including ICE is accessible even when locked. If you click on "Emergency" from the locked screen it'll take you to the keypad. On the bottom right it will display Medical Alert. I have my surgeon's number, allergies, conditions on it.

ilgc reacted to Proud2BMe in Goal Weight Reached!
Wow! I didn't think I would ever see this day! I hovered between 173-175 forever. I will admit that I could have achieved this probably about 9 months ago but I fell off the wagon a few times, well, several times. lol I have never been this skinny in my life. Feels great! Kind of scared too because I have to do plastics now and am definitely not looking forward to the recovery time.

ilgc got a reaction from longway2go in May surgeries
I'm ok thank u. I was doing well in the hospital but got discharged the morning after my surgery [emoji37] which was incredibly hard because I wasn't able to take pain medication or use gas relief tablets because putting anything into my system made me very nauseous. They still do but I'm doing better today I'm getting in a minimum of 4-6 oz of Water an hour which isn't that good but better than getting 2 oz every other hour. The gas pain was unreal tho, it was deeply embedded into my shoulders to the point where getting up felt like my lower half wasn't strong enough to hold my upper body.. I felt like every time I moved I was carrying a 100 pound weight on my back it was really painful. It's still there but it's much easier to move around today. I'm still like kinda out of it because of the heavy sedation but my surgery went well and I didn't have any complications. How are you? -

ilgc reacted to nadia81 in 100 lbs gone
I feel great. It has been a very hard and long road but I'm finally over half way to my goal. I have no more diabetes and no more sleep apnea so I feel so much more healthy.
In the beginning I was very doubtful and quite depressed but it was all worth it.
I've never been happier [emoji2]

My surgery is in like two weeks. If I ever feel anxious or worried, I journal about it then weigh my pros and cons and then after that I feel better. [emoji846]

I weighed my pros and cons
Plus this support group really helped. I was so scared and anxious that I was going to cancel until I got on this site
The day before my surgery. The responses I received was so encouraging that all that fear I had was gone.

ilgc reacted to James Marusek in Surgery anxiety
Frankly I was too busy to feel anxiety. I would recommend three things to begin with.
1. Take a good before photograph of yourself, so that you have something to compare to after surgery. Many times we are blind to our obesity. We do not see ourselves. Therefore when the weight begins to drop off rather dramatically, we question if this is really happening. Photographs are a good visualization of our success. Many people carry a before and after photo with them, just to remind themselves of their success.
2. Walk 30 minutes each day, every day until surgery (or equivalent exercise). Walking helps the recovery process go smoothly and minimized the pain levels from surgery.
3. Wean yourself from caffeine and carbonated beverages now. After I gave up my 6 diet coke a day habit, I suffered from a week of severe withdrawal syndrome consisting of severe headaches and body aches. I was miserable. You don't want to combine the effects of caffeine withdrawal with the effects of surgery.

ilgc reacted to Sadiebug in Surgery anxiety
I kept reminding myself why I made the decision to have the surgery. And made a very long list of things I wanted to do when I lost the weight and things I wouldn't miss about being fat. Looking at that over and over and over helped.
