I have no regrets at all. I'm in the best shape of my adult life and I am finally living the life that I was meant to live.
All of the hard work and sacrifice is worth it. food is just food, and it isn't worth all the misery that obesity brings with it!

There's a saying...."Rejection is a form of protection." If this guy is so turned off by loose skin that he wouldn't want to see you again, he's probably not the one for you.
I wouldn't warn anyone because it points to insecure feelings about your body. A woman who feels insecure in her own skin may send the wrong message.
Most women in the real world don't have perfect bodies due to childbirth, yo-yo dieting, age, gravity, sun exposure, and other issues. This man probably won't be as bothered by your body as you.
I would allow things to unfold organically. You cannot hide your body forever in this situation. It may help to view your loose skin and droopy body parts as badges of honor gained during your uphill battle with obesity.
    Good luck to you!

Okay all, I thought I would follow up on this. Over the last couple of weeks I have been wearing more revealing clothing - arms showing, knees showing, etc. I never said anything, but as Berry78 said, it was obvious with the shorter my arm sleeves and shorter skirts . It ended up that I could have had two heads, it wouldn't have mattered!!! All is good in paradise. Thanks for everyone's input.

I just got back from my sleeve surgery with Dr Taggar in FL. I would totally recommend him. One thing I learned is Florida doctors can opt out of malpractice insurance, and do something else like a line of credit in case they get sued. . It's not uncommon and at first freaked me out, but after reading, I was totally fine with it.

And based on the number of people filling the office, others didn't mind either. Just a different way of doing business.

I'm almost 4 weeks post-op and had surgery with Dr. Tagger in Miami. I've lost almost 20 lbs. I did a lot of research and almost went to Mexico but to get a good, highly recommended doctor in Mexico was the same price as going to Miami and I just felt more comfortable staying on the states. I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Tagger. He and the hospital staff were amazing and took really good care of me. Good luck!

I had surgery on April 20, 2017 and I've lost 93 lbs. I find that looking in the mirror it can be hard to really see how much progress I've made. I went shopping today and got to take a pic in a full length mirror. I was so excited when I put it side by side with my before picture! I still have 50-60 to lose but I just love where this journey has brought me so far. I'm so happy I have this safe space to share different experiences.

I went with bypass because of GERD. I couldn't even imagine making it any worse than it was, so I definitely didn't want to risk it with the sleeve.

This! I am a clean plate club member and I will always try to get more for less. This is definitely something that I am working on post op. Buffets are completely out of the question now.

I was at a restaurant the other day when my ah ha moment came. I told my daughter to get a refill to go her friend said no I had enough. I then realized that I always try to get more for my money. Not to waste. Growing up not having always enough made me always try for the most of what ever it is. Buying less knowing I only need a little and I will be fine is the answer.

Good luck to you! If there's one thing I'm sick and tired of, it's the assumption that we're obese because we're weak-willed and just don't "try hard enough". The massive rate of failure of traditional diets ought to tell people something about this issue . . . I put myself through college, working part-time while taking a heavy enough schedule to earn two BA's in four years. I quit smoking. I've been on my own my entire adult life. I had and beat cancer. I don't think there's a lot of other evidence to support my being "weak-willed." The idea that I will FINALLY have the tool I need to make this work fills me with joy. I don't owe apologies or shame to anyone! And neither do any one of you . . .

Sorry, I had to cut my above post short, as had to attend to kid duties.
Umm.. yeah, sorry about the wasps' nest that your post has stirred. Please keep in mind, as several of the above posters have mentioned, there are a lot of people here with "parent issues", and your post pushed some buttons.
I was heavy by time I hit first or second grade, but really started gaining in earnest in middle school (blasted puberty!!). My Mom and Dad didn't have much money, so they did the best they could. I was the only one that became chubby on the Pasta and day-old doughnuts, so it was a problem with me, not the diet
But, alas.. the past is what it is, and I'm finally on a path to better myself. I'm 38.
I recognize that you are terrified of complications from the surgery. You'd hate to see a perfectly healthy young adult sign up for an optional procedure that could leave her worse than she started, right?
We can't promise nothing bad will happen during/after the procedure. But, we can promise that the risks are low, and the rewards are great.
Post-surgery regain is a real possibility, and it can start as early as 6-8 months post-op. She has a lot to learn about changing the content of her diet, FOREVER, not just the quantity.. because she'll gradually be able to eat more and more, to the point of eating like a typical person (1 plate, not 3.. but she can get in big trouble with 1 plate!).
If you can, please look up Dr. Matthew Weiner on youtube. He is a bariatric surgeon in Michigan, and he has a TON of information about how/why the surgery works, and tips for changing diet and lifestyle afterwords.
We are so used to having to steer our kids in the right direction (away from danger), that it can be difficult to let them go and do their own things. Shoot, my husband didn't want me doing the surgery! He was terrified for me.
I was more terrified for my high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, joint pain, inability to fit in an airplane seat (no 2nd honeymoon in Hawaii!), breaking toilet seats all the time, having to hold my breath to tie my shoes, couldn't wash the bottoms of my feet, having very limited wardrobe selection, couldn't go out to walk the dog without feeling like I was going to have a heart attack, stairs = seeing stars.. etc.
I did great on diets when I was 20. Lost 65lbs, could hike 25 miles a day carrying a pack, etc. But, we can't all stay 20 forever, and having pregnancies, sitting at desk jobs, taking care of elderly parents in the home.. these things all take their toll, and weight gain happens... especially because a broken metabolism does not get fixed by diet and exercise! (There is some hope for a ketogenic diet, I suppose, but that was one I never tried).
Fix the metabolism through surgery. Learn a new way of cooking and eating. Fix any emotional problems.. and your daughter has a great chance of having a normal life.

itsmesandy reacted to onegordita2 in Would You Have Weight Loss Surgery Again?
I would have it again, I wouldn't do the gastric sleeve I would opt for the gastric bypass, being that it's more restrictive. I've gained weight I feel like I failed myself. I have a ton of issues in my life that are overwhelming and have me stressed out. I can't change things in my life for now. I care for a loved one who is mentally ill and that is a rollercoaster ride. I also don't like the feeling of taking a Vitamin and it makes me sick. There are a lot of things that bother me about my surgery I wish I had more control over but I don't. I can eat a small amount, I lost 100lbs. the first year, and then slowly I gained back some. I went thru a depression I felt deprived and was eating like a bird, I was tired all the time. Vitamins didn't make a difference. The reflux is bad, and I can't tolerate the nexium. People don't realize that it's not a quick fix, you have added issues. Yes, I love how I felt when I was 100lbs thinner but it doesn't last unless you exercise like crazy and eat like a bird, some of the Protein powders aren't tasteful. Maybe I need a support group/

itsmesandy reacted to TES in abdominal binder
Thanks for all of the replies on how long to where the binder. To those asking about where to get one: It's possible that you might receive one in the hospital, but if not, you can get them at a medical supply store. In the hospital, I was given a replacement one because of the drainage and such that got all over the first one. The nurse said that I could keep the first one and take it home and wash it, but I declined because the sight of the drainage on it was making me woozy, just because of how I was feeling at the time.
Wish I would have kept it so that I could wear an extra while washing the other one. You have to handwash or wash on gentle in cold and then let them air dry. I'll probably just pick up a spare at the medical supply. That's one of the reasons I was wondering how long everyone has worn them. I feel like it gives my abdominal muscles more support and balances out the weight of my chest area. When I don't wear it, even in the shower, my back starts aching a little. I'm thinking maybe 4 to 6 weeks will be enough and then maybe just when exercising for a while.

You can hire a CNA for just a few hours a week. Put an ad like on Craigslist and be sure to interview the person before your surgery. These people are trained and can do shopping laundry driving. They are caregivers and will understand your needs. The interview will help you choose the right person for time of need. It should only cost like under $60 and have list prepared of needs before they get there. You might only need the ride and a trip to store but if you have it lined up you will be happy you did.
