  1. So all you mommas, tell me if I'm wrong. I'm equating the preparation of WLS to first time pregnancy. 😂We read, educate ourselves, prepare, and plan. When it actually happens, seems as if reality is a bit different then all of our plans, but we "go with the flow" and all falls in to place anyway. All the preparation is not for nothing though, it gives us a better flow than to not been prepared at all. So, with that said, I know I'll  be just fine.

It is similar in the sense people over think it and buy all the crap pushed at them they don't need.

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

That's what I'm thinking! I bought so much stuff for the first baby and didn't even use most of it. So far, I haven't bought anything for WLS. I'm procrastinating here.

  2. 2.5 weeks till my last prerequisite appointment!

Thank you hon! It's getting to be almost surreal now. Lol

  3. I've noticed a difference between whey protein and plant protein....whey makes you extremely thirsty (dry mouth) afterwards. Plant doesn't. Well, at least it's been this of my experiences. I think I'll stick to plant protein for good.

    1. biginjapan

      biginjapan

What kind of plant protein are you using? I used soy protein for years before I decided on surgery, when I switched over to whey. I haven't experienced dry mouth, but I do know that I am satisfied longer with the whey protein. ;-)

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

I'm using VegaOne plant based protein. It's pretty good. I only took whey with the already made drinks and I don't think I'll be drinking them anymore. Trying to stay away from whey altogether.

  4. Hearing stories and seeing pics are motivating and inspiring. But actually seeing someone in the flesh a few months later really puts it in to perspective. I saw an acquaintance tonight at church. Didn't get to talk, but I had to do a double take because I honestly thought she was a different person. Wow! ...and she had a big beaming smile on. 😊 Love it!!!

      Ivy383

This is very true. My friend had surgery a few years ago. We both went our own ways for a bit (due to work and life). When I saw her a year after I was amazed. She was a new person! I couldn't believe it. She was so happy. I wish I would have not been afraid of the surgery back then. We could have done it together. Now i'm in the process and regret not doing it sooner.

  5. Been doing a lot of reading and scaled back on the number of posts mainly because I've been doing a lot of homework about plant based diets and WLS. I'm am not sold on high protein low carb diets. Never have been and it won't be my lifestyle. With that said, I do believe I need to have a good amount of protein for certain factors in the diet and exercise. I was impressed to find a post from a few years back of a person doing plant based and losing weight just as well as any other. She doesn't have to take all the vitamins because she gets them from food. Her blood work showed it....now, that is inspiring.

You described what I'm kind of anticipating or worried about, not being able to do most plants until my stomach is ready. I guess I'll be doing it little by little. But I know for sure , when I make my protein shakes early on, I'll be including my green bombs (nutritionist approved) so maybe my stomach will be able to handle it all when I go to solids. Here is a good list of plant sourced protein.

Thanks - actually, maybe I'm doing better than I think. I've been adding ground flaxseed to protein shakes, also PB2 peanut butter powder, and have started adding beans, so that's good. I also have some recipes using lentils, I just need to start making them!

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

Sounds like you are. 👍 Lentils are a great way to make a whole lot and freeze small containers of. I need to get the PB2.

  6. So I just had a small snack and I immediately reached for my water.  And stopped midway.....have to wait 30 mins before drinking.  Or is that only with actual meals?  guess I need to get clarification.

    1. biginjapan

      biginjapan

I think it's for any food, no matter how big or small. I've just stopped pouring a drink for myself. Amazingly, I find I totally forget the "need" to drink while eating if I don't have a glass or cup in front of me.

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

I'm pretty thirsty after eating. Guess it depends on what you eat too. It's a hard habit to make, but I'll get it down.

    3. _Kate_

I always have a large drink before I eat, then just wait five or ten minutes before eating. Works for me and my thirst is quenched.

  7. Just did about 30 squats at my desk.  I can't lift weights due to injuries, but I can squat and dance (to a limit).  So while the bosses are out of the country, I'm jamming out and squatting.  LOL

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

I'm thinking of writing on my calendar that I did "x" amount of squats. If done daily, we should see a significant change after awhile. Might just be my thing post-op too. I've always wanted a bigger, muscular butt. Lol

    2. biginjapan

      biginjapan

I'm about to move from my private office to a shared one :(, but I imagine if I start doing squats there I may have the office to myself! (great idea!)

  8. Had a nut appt yesterday. Same old thing, keep practicing on the sipping, no drinking for at least 30 mins after meals, and two bites of protein-then one bite of veggies. I've already went to decaf (the withdrawal was awful) and I replaced my breakfast with a protein shake with green bombs. (Bombs are a frozen mixture of kale, spinach, ginger root, green apples, and cucumbers blended together with some water and poured in to ice cube trays or silicone molds). Great way to get veggies in. My nut says I can continue that with my protein post op too. Yay!

So I've got one more nut appt left (April 19th) then I'm DONE! They'll submit my papers to insurance and then I wait. I'm suspecting my surgery to be in May instead of April now. So we'll see. Until then, I wait. Hopefully the month goes by fast. 😊

    1. biginjapan

      biginjapan

Good luck! I'm also curious as to what recipe you use to make green bombs (I definitely need to up my veggies!).

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

Thanks y'all. I didn't have a silicone mold and didn't want to use muffin tins. So I used ice trays. Perfect little bombs. Now, pre-surgery I use 3-4 bombs in each protein drink. After I'll probably use one till I can up it more. But anyway, I use my nutri bullet and I cram in spinach and kale in equal portions I guess. 1/2 a cucumber, 1/2 large green apple, maybe a few thick slices of ginger root, then I add water up to the line. I didn't want it to be too thick but not too watery either, good enough to pour in the ice trays. Freeze them and place in to a container with lid and keep in the freezer. Had to make 3-4 batches because the nutri bullet is kinda small. But each batch filled up 4 ice cube trays. So, when I'm ready to make my drink, I throw those in first, liquid, then protein powder. A good little bit of veggies in every one. Helps bridge the gap of not getting any veggies or little veggies in The diet. You can do an array of different veggies. Watch the fruit though; that's why I only used a little bit of green apple. My brother threw me on to this, I'm glad he did op. Hope y'all get to trying. Let me know how it goes!

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

Or you can place them in freezer ziplock bags too. Save room. 😊

  9. Had a couple of hours before getting my kids from spring break camp.  Took a nice long walk downtown on the shoreline.  Great overcast and somewhat cool day.  Enjoyed every bit of it.  Now, my left knee and feet aren't taking it too kindly though.

  10. Takes me an hour to eat a greek yogurt and I haven't been sleeved yet. LOL

Next Wed I have my 3rd NUT appt.  One left in April, then I'm done with all the perquisites! I'm so excited.

    Almost there!!!.....

@ItsMeBirdie I almost thought I was the only one on the planet that gets headaches from the artificial sweeteners! :) It's nice to know I'm not. Headaches and taste I cannot stand. I'll have to give Stevia a try though.

Warning signs that something isn't right...headaches, heartburn, of course fevers, etc. It's good to be mindful of them. Thanks lady! I hope so too, otherwise, I'll be going sugar-free artificial-free for quite a while!

  11. WOW Jean!!!! What a transformation! And I love seeing your smile on the after.  :) Great job!

  12. So I posted a big thread on heartburn the other day. Not even sure if there was any traffic. Haven't checked yet. But anyway, right about now, I'd be burping before I lay down to sleep and then would have awful acid reflux. Well, I just burped and nothing. Yep, no acid reflux! All day! Even yesterday! I bought Betaine HCL, hydrochloric acid supplements. Take one before each meal. So far so good. I can go to sleep peacefully. Good night y'all. 😊

  13. Major headache! And I'm not even on the pre-op diet yet.  My husband decided to buy me all decaffeinated coffees...SMH.  I'm thinking, "ok...I'll just use them/get used to them"  Trying to not give in to regular since I've already got this darn headache.  I might as well as play it out now, cause I don't want to do it again during the pre-op.

    1. biginjapan

      biginjapan

Good luck with that! Luckily I'm not a coffee drinker so I didn't need to face that withdrawal, but I met a few people who were struggling with it when I was in Mexico.

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

Thanks. It's the pits. 😂 today is much better. So far no headache besides my kids needing me left and right. Haha

  14. First step (again) I bought a small daily journal. I've been writing what I eat and protein grams. It's been helpful to be mindful of what I place in my mouth. It's only been one day and a half, but it's a step in the right direction. I used to do this with calories a long time ago. Seems like this time it's less of a headache counting. Not sure why, but I'm glad it's working for me. Now, I just need to stick to it!

  15. I didn't have such a great day eating wise. Good grief! So I guess I was down in the dumps... "well, you are terribly crappy already, what more could you do?" So I bought some pork rinds. All I have to say is THANK GOD THEY WERE WAY TOO SALTY! So I got rid of them. Sigh....this pre-op training is the pits!!!!

    1. 2-Liter

      2-Liter

Sometimes nutrition can be looked at from several different perspectives. Pork rinds, for example, are deep-fried pigskin, but “Junk Food That's Good for You, ” an article on the Web site of Men's Health magazine, points out that they also have zero carbs, nine grams of fat — 43 percent unsaturated — and 17 grams of protein, which make them more acceptable as an occasional snack.

Don't beat yourself up too bad just make up your mind to meal prep this way you will always be prepared and cheating on your diet would then be a choice instead of last resort.

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

Thanks! I love pork skins but have scaled back due to the fat content. I used to eat them all the time for the protein but neglected the rest of the nutritional or un-nutritional values, however way to look at it. I will have to and need to get on board the meal prepping train!

  16. Went to a little cousin's bday party and ate terribly. Nothing healthy to eat. Now I know for sure I'll need to always have food on hand that I should and could eat.

I'm gonna have to. My surgery will be in two months or so and I've got to get a hold of myself both mentally and physically. Thanks for the tips.

dont beat yourself up too bad..... We all have days were you just can't eat right.... but the good part is.... there's always tomorrow.....

8+ years out and still have those days.... it's acknowledging and correcting ASAP

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

I'm acknowledging all day today too, unfortunately. I think it's all a head game at this point. I'm super motivated and write what im gonna do, make lists, and then nada. Nothing happens. Sooooooo, taking a big deep breath here and starting all over again! I thank God, cause His mercies are new every morning. 😊

  17. How serious am I? I just gave away most of my clothes that I can currently wear.  I only kept a few outfits (I obviously need to be clothed), the few clothes that were too small, and my stretchy exercise clothes.  Now my husband had more clothes than me. LOL

  18. Had my 2nd NUT appt yesterday; nothing new.  Just keep making changes.  Didn't lose anything; didn't expect to lose either; since focusing on muscle gain.  2 more NUT appts to go. Already cleared the psych eval and no other tests.  Time seems to fly once things are done; but seems so far away until the next appts.

  21. So, went to a church service this past weekend.  Got my shoulder prayed for.  Hurts WAY LESS than before, so I'm counting this all joy! :)

I did Just Dance again last night with my kids.  Such fun.  Except I think I've got a pinched nerve just above the buttocks that made my leg almost give out. Ouch.  So, I stopped.

I have my 2 NUT appt on Wednesday morning! Super excited.  Maybe two more months to go???  I was told I'd have my surgery at the end of April/early May, so time will fly...hopefully!

  22. Totally off sleeve topic, but a lady ran into me with her car yesterday.  I cannot workout now, because I've got pretty bad shoulder pain.  I was buckling my little one in to her car seat yesterday when the car door started to shut on me (I thought it was wind--gets pretty windy here), so I stand up only to turn around and see a car crushing me in between the door and the frame of my car!!!! The older lady finally moved up and released me.  I didn't realize the pain at the time cause I was in shock! She was too and she was sorry.  Because it was on private property, the police wouldn't go out.  So, I got her insurance info (which wasn't her car, btw) and I filed a claim.  The insured called me. I thought "Okay I don't have to talk, but I'll be civil"  and I told her what happened.  She all of a sudden didn't believe me when I told her I was on the way to the urgent care center to get my shoulder checked at the advise of her insurance company.  She started asking questions offensively.  She says "well, I'm going to call the school (our kid's go there) and get the video since they have it." I told her go ahead, I'm telling you everything you'll see.  Anyway, the school only has video of the inside so there's nothing there.  The adjuster called and asked info.  She's nice enough.  I told her about the phone call, she says I do not have to talk with the insured at all.  I also told her she thinks I'm lying.  A little later, the adjuster calls me saying she's getting a different story.  SMH! I told her that I had a feeling that would happen, but it doesn't take away from what really happened.  Anyway, I'm home today, my shoulder is hurting me pretty bad.  I reenacted photos with my husband to show the position I was in for my injury and submitted that.  I even did a diagram of the parking lot to show how the car was hit, etc.  (Man, I should be in Judge Judy, eh?) LOL  So, the only thing that is carrying me through is this:

Teach me your way, Lord. lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.  Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations. I remain confident of this, I will see the goodness of the Lord....." Ps 27:11-13

    God's got my back! :)

  23. Two things:

Pysch Eval:  AWESOME! It was so nice.  I had a great time talking to the lady.  She had a lot of good and encouraging remarks for me. "You will do very well." We just talked about different things, she asked me stuff about medical history, family medical history.  Asked me what I want out of the sleeve.  Preventive care and to wear my wedding ring again.  :) She said she's never heard about the ring thing before.  We laughed a lot too.  At the end, she says "You're the person I would have a great time talking to all afternoon."  hehe. I told her I would if I didn't have to pick up the kids.  I enjoyed it.

Second thing, I finally told my mom! BIG SIGH!!!!  Oh man, I thought she would flip...but she did the exact opposite!  "Please don't tell me its the bypass?" she asked.  LOL  I said "No, it's the sleeve" She says "Oh GOOD!" (Her opinions on the bypass are strictly hers, so I don't want any negative remarks about my mother's opinion please! LOL  ANYWAY, we talked for an hour and I told her what I'll be doing and what I have been doing.  She's on board. YAY!!!! SUCH A HUGE RELIEF!!! SO RELIEVED THAT I'M CRYING HAPPY TEARS!!!!

The Lord is TRULY GOOD to me. :)

  24. My kids got me in to JUST DANCE on the PS4.  I have no idea why we didn't have this before!!!!!  I danced basically all night with my 7 year old, my husband kept telling us it was time to turn off, and then we'd pick another song and keep on going.  My knees are taking a beating today though.  :(  She's actually playing it again as I'm updating my status.  LOL

So....pysch evaluation tomorrow! I'll give an update for how it goes!  I'm Pysched!!! LOL  Pun intended. :D

  25. I've got a pysch evaluation on Monday! I have a feeling this lady is going to be pretty thorough, simply for the paperwork she had me do beforehand (of which I have NO IDEA where it is!) ....guess I better find it.

Also, I started a job back in September of last year.  One of the superintendents on the field told me yesterday, "Congratulations! You've out lasted all the others!" ...but now I know why, the wifey boss isn't someone you want to work for.  I deal with it. I've managed to keep my mouth shut.  I've had harder bosses before, but if it gets worse, I'll have to say something.  Totally off topic, but anyway, it was on my mind just now.
