Lord Almighty, what a frightening experience. I'm so glad you're still here to tell us about it! I hope the rest of your story is nothing but smooth sailing and lots of success. You have earned at least that and so much more...

I think it's a great practice to cut crap out of a healthier diet and just eat that sort of thing once in a rare while and in small, very small portion.

I left the Facebook group because all anyone did was post about the crap they wanted to eat rather than truly healthy recipes. It got old and it was totally obvious how so many had eating disorders they didn't want to address.

So sad to me and I'm far from perfect but try at least.

You are at mile 0.1 of a marathon. Small fluctuations and stalls are totally normal. Don't stress, just keep doing what you're supposed to do and it'll work.

Of course you couldn't! hair is such a huge part of what makes us feel pretty. To see it in a brush instead of on our heads is traumatic. Just keep repeating to yourself, "it's temporary..."

Thick is good. That means the loss will be less noticeable on your head (still scary in the sink!). Try not to panic as stress won't improve the situation. Know that it will stop soon and those hairs will grown back. In the meantime, get all your Protein and take your Vitamins. That's all that's within your control.

Aren't you Little Mary Sunshine! If you don't adopt good habits in the first year, yes you'll regain weight. It requires forever vigilance and is not a cure all, which perhaps you expected it to be?

Agree with the above, but one other thought. Could it be your period? Surgery tends to start it for many of us when it isn't expected.

Fat is a major storer of estrogen, so burning fat is releasing that estrogen. That plus the trauma of surgery is likely enough to cause spotting!

My Dr said the first 6 weeks are for healing not weight loss.
You just had major surgery. Your body is focused on repairing itself not losing weight.
    Google 3 week stall.

It seriously feels like no one did any research pre-op and just had surgery. If you have ever read any WLS boards there are lots of answers to this kind of question.

Do some research so you know what expect and don't stress yourself. You need to be focused on healing and you can't if you are stressed.

I have to ask a couple of questions:
    1. What would you say that this woman weighed at that moment she was talking to you? Just a ballpark answer will do. If she weighed 400 or 500 pounds, that might explain something.
    2. Did she specifically say that she had lost the 100 pounds since surgery day or did that count pre-op weight loss, too? That also would say something (especially if coupled with #1).
And I doubt seriously she hasn't had any stalls. But, if she says so...
Context is so important in these stories. Lack of context is why there are posts on here all the time from 230 pound women that are devastated that they didn't lose 40 pounds in the first month post-op. They read a post that someone lost 40 pounds, but they failed to mention that person weighed 500 pounds on surgery day.

    A) To your insurance company, you are not an individual. They cater to the least common denominator to make sure everyone has your nutrition knowledge - in their minds, it's better to over-educate you than under-educate someone else. Given some of the questions I've seen on here over the last several months, some people still aren't getting enough education.

To your quote I left above - ever think that's the point? A six month wait is a giant staring contest. If you blink first and quit, they win because they don't have to pay. They hope people are overwhelmed by all the hoops and drop out. This was my surgeon's opinion too, by the way.

Hang in there. You are so close to winning the staring contest a d getting what you want. Sometimes in life, we have to play games we don't want to...

I understand. All the points that have been said. Bariatric surgery (and research) keeps evolving. One thing we have to realize is that these insurance guidelines keep being reworked or tossed out, because research doesn't really back them up. Many researchers also warn that policy statements should not be issued based on their findings.
Even the pre weight loss requirement by some insurers isn't backed by research. Some programs just want evidence of some kind of commitment (and also to make surgery safer for those with super obesity, )

My personal feeling for insurance companies having a required 3, 6, 12, (and once upon a time) 24 month wait, is in hoping people will have second thoughts and not do it, therefore, saving them a crap load of money. As of 2014, my insurance company doesn't make patients wait anymore. I feel as prepared as I'm ever going to be. Will I still wonder how I'm going to get my Protein and liquids down three days out? Yes, I probably will even though I read that this is a common worry straight out of surgery.
Some things you just can't prepare for until you're in that situation. Truth is, many people who gained back their weight from bariatric surgery had their surgery years ago when all insurances required a wait. So, to me, those statistics are kind of dubious. For some people, you can make them wait two years, and still, three months after the surgery, they'll still post about how they were able to drink milkshakes instead of Protein Shakes. For some people, wait time does not equate to suddenly having common sense.

How very awesome it must be to know and make judgments about people who post on the internet.

It couldn't possibly be because they considered and researched the procedure FOR YEARS before deciding to bite the billet and make the call.

It couldn't possibly be because they were having an off day and needed to blow off steam.

Yes! Of course it was emotional immaturity and inevitable failure that leads to feelings like this! How terribly perceptive.
