I've never had a booty so it really surprised me when shortly after surgery my butt got boney. Apparently I did have somewhat of a butt after all.

I still got my ass! lol! I was blessed with some good T&A. I'm 42, I was sure my ass would looks like a flabby pancake but instead it just keeps getting higher and higher, sticking out more smoothly and round. (I feel so weird talking about this) If you have always had a nice ass, even extremely overweight, there is a chance you could keep it. So far so good. Despite what my info on the left states, I started this journey 4 years ago at 360 lbs. I'm now down to 218 and my ass is still round and bouncy. lol!

I would love to lose my booty, but it's a really slow process for me. But I have a bad fat booty, not a good fat booty My boobs on the otherhand...gone in a flash. That was the fat I wanted to keep!

I'm losing my booty, big time. Still have my basic pear shape, but booty is shrinking too fast for my (and hubby's) liking. I'm back to spinning to lift and plump my derriere!

I lost my booty very quickly. I think that was the first thing I noticed at about three months. Flat as flat can be now (5 months out) and what's left is just saggy skin. I try not to really look at it when I'm naked. I love when put on slacks and its so nice and flat.

Vomiting and GERD -- I haven't had any
Pro's and con's -- first time in my life I am at a normal weight, which means my life has changed entirely. No real cons except (1) it's major surgery, so that does mean a period of pain and tiredness after as you recover; and (2) some people find themselves unable to tolerate certain types of food after. I can't/don't eat bread anymore or anything carbonated.
Advice -- you have to be ready and want to build an entirely new relationship with food. Food will no longer be your comfort, your entertainment, your stress relief, your way of celebrating holidays or family. That doesn't mean you can't enjoy it though. You have to be willing to work hard at weight loss and weight maintenance for the rest of your life (I'm deadly serious about that). You have to be willing to accept the possibility that you radically change the kind of food you eat for the rest of your life. Don't kid yourself into thinking this surgery means you eat three bites of pancakes for Breakfast, one mini-cheeseburger for lunch, a Snickers fun bar for a snack, and a twinkie for dinner with a side of a couple french fries. Doesn't work like that. If you are like most of us, those types of foods are either entirely or very largely excised from our lives completely if we want to be successful in losing weight and keeping the weight off.
Small portions for the first month? I didn't have any "portions" for the first month. My plan called for liquids for the first month post-op.
After that I was allowed to move to pureed high Protein foods for four weeks. Portion size there was 1.5 ounces weighed or 3 tablespoons measured. This was more than enough, believe me.
After that I moved to soft foods for four months and my mandated size for each of my three daily meals was 3 ounces. I could rarely eat that much though.
I am now 3.5 years post op and can eat about 5 ounces per meal, depending on what is in the meal. I still focus on high protein, low carb eating in order to maintain my weight loss (over 200 lbs).
I don't know that there are stats or averages for weight loss in the first month. The first month post-op, your body does some insane things trying to recover from the trauma of surgery. Healing and getting used to a new way of relating to food should be your focus in the first month post op, not how fast you are losing. All that said, I would think anywhere from 8 - 25 lbs is a reasonable expectation for first month loss for someone your size. Focus on the lower end of that and if you lose more, let yourself be surprised and happy. Good luck in your decision!

I don't think depression/anxiety can go away with WLS. You might feel better because you can get out more, do more, be more confident vs. letting the depression win and stay in bed all day. But cure, I don't think so.
Note - this is my personal opinion, I am in no way affiliated with any medical field.
I've worked with a therapist about 4 years now. I'm 27 - found out right before I turned 22 my Mom had terminal cancer and the depression/anxiety tendencies I already had reared their ugly heads.
I manage it now. I do have xanax for emergencies, but I can almost always control is - it took a LONG time to get here. So my best advice is to find a therapist (took me 4 tries to find someone that "got it").
I take daily meds for depression as well. A combo of meds and therapy works best for me. Good luck. Panic attacks are very scary.
Try counting to 10, backwards and forwards. Breathe in for 4, hold for 4, out for 4. There are other CBT things you can look at online.

Yes, you have to STOP what your are doing, which is panicking, and calm down.
There are many techniques for doing this, the critical thing is to teach yourself one and NOT to give in and fall down the rabbit hole.

I had panic attacks that became so bad I couldn't drive, go to parties, restaurants, supermarkets etc.
I have not taken medication for anxiety for years. I just acknowledge it when it happens and keep it moving. Once I focus on something else it dissipates.

I have panic attacks. It used to be the most terrifying feelings ever. Through talk therapy and learning coping skills such as breathing exercises , it is not so bad. One thing to do during is name :
    5 things you can see
    5 things you can smell
5 things you can hear an 5 things you can touch
    that is around you
It distracts your mind and can get you less stressed.
Best advice is talk to a psychiatrist, they can find an appropriate medication for you. I know it can be a long wait to get to see one so you maybe able to get a script from your GP to help you get through. However it is better to see a doctor who specializes in mental health. They know and keep up with the latest therapies better than a GP.
As for frequency decline post op, it will depend on what your triggers are. Seek treatment is my best advice.

You had a panic attack- When it hits don't freak out- that makes it worse. Number 1- you aren't going to die- Number 2-you aren't going crazy- Number 3-when the symptons hit acknowledge the panic attack, tell yourself you are going to be ok and go back to doing what you are doing. If you don't panic over the panic attack it GOES away. Never stop driving or going out for fear of having a panic attack! It's just uncomfortable FEELINGS.

I have been on Paxil for GAD since 2000 when I was 120 lbs of solid muscle. I've tried weaning down my dosage or changing meds and never been able to come off it. But, since it's cheap now, I don't think it's a bad thing to be on. It had nothing to do with my weight gain, btw. You should see your GP about trying a SSRI/NSSRI. You may be able to take it short term, as most people do. It should not medically affect your surgery in any way. Self medicating is always a bad idea, especially since (#1. you're not a doctor and #2.) valium can cause hypotension and reduce the amount of oxygen to the heart muscle, so if you were having a heart attack, would be more harm than good.
    p.s.
    I'm not a doctor either!

I am in the same boat and had to ride my BMI for 6months if I dropped insurance would not pay for it. I binged all my favorite foods before pre-op liquid diet. I also made sure I did 10,000 steps a day with my fitbit and most days hit 14,000 steps. I also started my Vitamins and making sure I hit 1200 calories and 65grams of Protein a day. This is what life is like after surgery.
I am 1 month out and just had my 1 month post op today. I am down 17lbs. I am on target. I have no cravings for food and just got my hand slapped that I am not to rely on Protein shakes that I need to eat. Unfortunately most days I don't want to eat and I have to make this change and force myself. Its not easy after surgery and my eyes are bigger than my stomach.

@@VivVsg I started Vitamins post-op. If you are eating a healthy, balanced diet and don't have any medical issues that would cause you to have problems with absorbing vitamins, there isn't any need for a Multivitamin. I have always had to supplement with Iron and B12 though, and I certainly kept up with that.
