consmom07 reacted to Pam_2-06-2017 in Weight loss? Slow? In a Stall?
I decided to address some issues with the speed of my weight loss. Not because I'm disappointed or frustrated but to offer perspective and to garner your perspective to help those who are frustrated.
On May 6 it will be 3 months out for me. I'm certainly no subject matter expert. Daily I see a new post regarding the speed of weight loss. Usually it is regarding a stall. Heck, I think I even posted one.
We've heard and read every one hoping to get a different answer. But that new perspective never comes. So it appears that stalls are reality and normal. Slow weight loss is a reality and normal. Fast weight loss is a reality and normal.
I've learned that just because you're in a stall or your weight loss is slow doesn't mean nothing is happening to your body. I slipped right into a size 14 jean at the end of my last two week stall.
    1. Help I'm in a stall? What do I do?
Look at your journal. Are you getting 60-100g of Protein a day? Are you staying within your carb limit? Are you drinking all your Water? Are you journaling? Be honest about staying on plan. And understand that even if you do everything right you will stall.
    2. Why are others losing weight so much faster than me?
First refer to the answer number 1. If you answered yes to all those then you are probably like me. My husband swears I can live on air:-). My weight loss is slow and I have had many stalls in my short three months. In between stalls I'll lose 3-4 lbs then stall again. There are benefits to being slow losers. That lotion you put on twice a day to nourish and heal your skin actually has some time to work. Don't forget to dry brush your skin before climbing into the shower. My skin looks great and I'm nearly 50!
Did you expect the weight to just disappear and you're feeling disappointed?
By choosing the sleeve you chose one of the slowest of WLS suite of choices. Yep, weight loss can continue for up to 2 years after surgery. Most people who succeed get to goal sooner. In spite of that I feel like I've made the right choice. I feel great, I'm looking pretty great and there is no way I could have dropped 36 pounds in nearly three months any other way. Your frame of mind is important to determining your satisfaction with WLS. In other words, don't look at your daily weigh in as an emotional roller coaster where on loss days you're happy and in stall days you're bummed. You can't eat 800-1000 calories a day and not eventually lose weight. Don't worry, be happy.
You will have stalls. Now I've had more stall days than success days and am thankful for them. The misconception is that this is an easy fix to a problem of laziness or lack of self control. Every one who has done this will testify that this is a lie. This is not easier. It's damned hard to make the decision to surgically limit your body to 4-6 ounces of food at a time. Sometimes it sucks when you've made a rockstar meal and want more. Like that amazing, wild Alaska salmon I made last night that I'm also having for lunch today. Yum!
After all that work to get to a successful surgery date now is the time to Celebrate the successes and the stalls. They are our new reality. Why not make it your new normal.
    Take care

Tonight I cooked dinner for my family. I made panko and Parmesan coated chicken breasts with a cream leek sauce and garlic and dill mashed potatoes.

My hubs and my daughter sat down to their plates and I sat down to my half cup of mashed cauliflower.

We joked about what Thanksgiving was going to look like, if I'd even be able to get dinner down.

I laughed with them but it hurt a little because my normal is now different.

This moment will pass as we redefine what it means to eat and to be social.

I am 8 days out and so HUNGRY! I know what head hunger is and that is not what this is. My stomach is growling and the fluids (water, broth of all kinds) & Protein are not filling me up. I can drink about 3/4 cup in less than 15 minutes. I feel full (it doesn't hurt but I can feel the fullness). Less than 20 minutes later I am hungry again. I end up heating up a cup of stuff each time bc I know within a couple hours it will all be gone. Is this normal?!?! I wrote my nutrionist that my surgeon requires me to work with but I honestly think she is a dingbat. I just want more of something....eggs sound so good and maybe some applesauce. I see people that had both the day they left the hospital and I don't understand why the phases of food are so drastic between surgeons. I honestly am depressed that I have to do this another 6 days. It doesn't seem like a long time, but to someone who is hungry it is I am doing really well with recovery. I haven't had pain meds since day 2, I sleep all night like 7 hours at least, I have zero pain. I have been up and living life since day 3. I cut grass, pulled weeds, went shopping, went to an amusement park (no rides though). So I'm being active...I just want to eat!

Thank you everyone!! I'm finally post-op. Wasn't as bad as I imagined at all. I'm feeling pretty okay.

Anesthesia has had he sleepy and groggy most of the day. In terms of pain, incision pain in minimal. Just feels like I did lots of push ups. Oh boy, but that has pain is a killer. It really hurts. Walking is the only solution. I've walked every chance I got and I'm going to continue to do that. Also, peeing every 10 minutes! Lol

So happy I did this and I'm excited to start this new journey of my like. Thank you all for your kind words, well wishes and encouragement. [emoji173]

Hi. I am having the sleeve done in June, I have been SOOO EXCITED...up until lately. Now, I'm getting REALLY nervous. My family has bee n extremely supportive, but recently, they have been telling me they are concerned that I won't be able to stay on a new "diet". I pretty much ONLY eat carbs. I have lost 100+lbs before, but gained it back. My question is, did anyone else out there have the kind of diet before surgery that I have now? In my mibd I am COMPLETELY DEDICATED to being successful, but I'm scared.

I have told immediate family due to the way our weight loss programme works but I won't tell my parents in law as they will judge and try and get it stopped. We don't have a great relationship anymore and I know I will get all sorts of comments and being called a burden to my very supportive hubby is just a nono
