I'm so senior you the 2 of you having surgery today at 69. I thought it was a mistake to try now. But 10/10 was my day. I did fine in regards to surgery and post op. The pain is bearable. Follow your doctor's program and you'll be fine. You're in my thoughts and prayers,

Actually, you can hope for much better results than that. The mean is the average - all participants in the study with their results, even the ones with poor results for whatever reason.
I don't know about you, but I don't plan to be average

jacque2250 reacted to careya123 in Long Term Results of Sleeve Gastrectomy
Long term results of sleeve gastrectomy are just starting to become available in the last few years. Here's one study:
sleep apnea syndrome, and gastroesophageal reflux disease symptoms occurred in 83.8%, 59.7%, 75.6%, and 64.7% of patients, respectively." So at 6 years, I can hope to have ~70% of my excess weight gone. And more than likely, my co-morbidities will be gone. Take that, Weight Watchers!

jacque2250 got a reaction from opie7799 in Got approved yesterday. Surgery is set for Wednesday.
The weakness lasted about 3 weeks. I was foolish and should have call the doctor. But I kept trying to drink the required Protein drink and liquids. I eventually got enough in to make me feel better. Now I am feeling fine and trying to stick strictly to the plan. Thanks for asking. I'm glad I found this forum I've learned alot

jacque2250 reacted to BarrySue in Popcorn
About 14-16 weeks out I started eating popcorn. They have great 100 calorie bags I could buy at the vending machine for a snack, and they were a great way to keep from binging on more dangerous things while I adjusted to my post-sleeve dietary habits. Almost 18 months out now I still eat it pretty often, although I prefer microwave light pop versus some of the really saturated/cheese dust coated brands they sell at gas stations. Those things can have 400+ calories per bag!

jacque2250 got a reaction from cyndi990 in Sleeved July 14 th. 2016
It's good to hear you stuck to it. I am only 8 weeks out, tomorrow. The worse problem I had was that dreadful tiredness and lethargy. It only lasted 2 & 1/2 weeks, thankfully. I am losing very slowly and tend to drop 4 lbs at a time, then nothing for weeks. I've lost a total of 30 lbs since starting the pre-op diet.
Your story gives me courage to just keep at it. Thank you.

jacque2250 reacted to Stephanielp in On my way
...so I am doing the 3 month followed diet after some issues with the primary physician I had (he got angry with me when I told him I wanted the sleeve) I found a weight loss clinic and decided to try out adipex I could see where this would help weight loss but I see alot of people on that yoyo when they stop taking it and I don't want that. So I continued on got a new pcp who is totally on board with the surgery but did however tell me to continue with that clinic for my 3months diet he said he will sign all my approval papers soon as I need them. Although I'm a little concerned he said I could lose all the weight I want and still get the surgery but when I did my nutrition consult and phsychatric clearance they told me they didn't think so...but I did stop the adipex and stop the gym I was an avid goer despite appearance I have lost weight but my bmi went to 46...I guess I'm losing muscle because the dr told me no weights. Any way I'm 27 always been a big girl but always told I carry it well. My highest weight259 I think I'm like 251 now. So I have done everything the surgeon told me to do and just waiting to finish my supervised diet on Dec 28 ...I'm so anxious and excited and nervous to do this. Hope to relieve my new life tool in January!

So really, your best bet is seriously to ask your doctor. His plan is the best plan for YOU.

jacque2250 reacted to OutsideMatchInside in Experts, when does the big drop happen?
Everyone is different. I was huge and my loss at 5 to 6 weeks was about the same as yours and I thought it was slow ish, silly me.
I lost the fastest months 3 to 7. This was because I could eat enough to be active. After 6 to 9 months I credit all my weight loss to my chosen WOE more than the sleeve.

jacque2250 got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Feeling discouraged
God Bless and keep you. I'm about 5 weeks out and pain is no longer an issue. If your docs gave you post op pain relievers use them, in these early days, it helps with the walking and moving. Tylenol or smething like that also helped me when I didn't want to use stronger pain meds. As with all advice may sure it's OK with your doctor.
Feel better soon!

jacque2250 got a reaction from AweLauren in Had to Abruptly Stop Taking Cymbalta After Surgery; Having Medication Withdrawals
I agree with everyone before. I am also on cymbalta, but i was told I could continue it the next day after surgery. I had researched with my surgeon's office and told I could take capsules. Also the doctor discharging me frm the hospital listed it as a drug to continue. I am 6 weeks post op today, I haven't had any problems with meds.

How far out are you? I am 3 weeks post op today and I am scared to eat anything my surgeon does not approve of, you could get a leak and end up very sick.
I try to think long term. In 2 more weeks I will be able to eat anything that sits well with me (although I plan to take it slow) I am happy to be losing weight. I can't wait to see what I look like at Christmas, Spring Break, next summer.......
I have been eating crap for years, I am done with it, I look forward to healthy things like eggs and fish and eventually veggies. I was miserable at 248 pounds.

jacque2250 reacted to LittleBill in First major holiday meal coming up since being sleeved . . .
We are doing the cooking, and will have all the traditional stuff for all the regular folks. My wife is gluten intolerant, so we have been doing diet workarounds for years. Now it's my turn.
I'm only six weeks out, and I am a week into the soft food phase. I am sticking with turkey and a tiny bit of stuffing. If I get my Protein in for the day, I will go back for some cranberry sauce (jellied for me) and maybe a tiny bit of pumpkin pie for my following snack/meal. But after that, it will back to the salt mine (figuratively speaking of course).
I figure eating less will give me more time to pontificate at the table during dinner.

jacque2250 reacted to Julie2879 in "The Stall" has lifted!
Yes, I hear it is quite normal to go through a few of them. I learned not to worry, as long as I am following my diet, because I can see the inches melt off. I think we get so worried about what the scale says, we don't pay attention to what the clothes show. I am fitting into clothing I have not been able to even fit passed my shoulders in YEARS. It's just unreal, to know that as long as I do not allow myself to stray, my loose clothing can go bye-bye forever.

jacque2250 reacted to Julie2879 in "The Stall" has lifted!
So, I went about 2 and a half weeks with no weight loss. Thank goodness I read that it is perfectly normal, or else I would have been driving myself crazy! I decided I was going to stay off of the scale for a week, and when I weighed myself this morning, I had lost 4 more lbs. Needless to say, I was very happy, since October 3rd I have lost 37 lbs!!! We can all do this, and we are here for each other!!!

jacque2250 reacted to msleesa in I need your support
I recently enrolled in healthcare benefits for 2017 at my job and they do not cover bariatric surgery. Dr. Maytorena from Long Term VSG is hosting a contest for a giveaway of a free gastric sleeve procedure. We were asked to make a video stating why we needed the procedure and why we thought Dr. Maytorena would be a good doctor. The winner is the contestant that has the most likes on their video via the Long Term VSG Facebook page. I need your support by watching and liking my video submission on their page. I have included a clickable link to the post. Thank you in advance for your help! <3
