  1. Wow 58lbs is a lot. Good job. What was ur SW? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using the BariatricPal App Starting weight was 290 Surgery Weight 260 Current Weight 232 I'm 5'2". I have that 2-3lb fluctuation about every other week for a couple of days. I am bad in that I do weigh myself everyday. I'm not obsessed with it, but I do it to have a better understanding of how my weight changes over the course of a week. It makes my hubby so mad...lol, but I would rather know everyday than to step on the scale out of the blue on a high end day. How many calories you getting in per day? I don't really count them, but my nutritionist said that at this point I should be getting in 850-1000.
  2. Sleeved 10/26. Down 58lbs. I experience similar stalls. I had a lengthy one and nutritionist told me I wasn't getting enough calories. We adjusted and now I lose 2-4lbs a week.
  3. I had sleeve surgery 10/26/2016. I had minimal gas pain in my left arm only. Completely bearable. I also had a hernia repair at the same time and had very little pain. Walking as much as possible after surgery helps a lot. I would say I had about the best experience you could have with surgery. I followed plan and did what they told me to do. I have only experienced heartburn twice and I have NEVER thrown up. Don't let them get in your head. Will your experience be the same? No telling, but don't let it stress you. You'll be fine.
  4. Lots of things can be ok, this is a huge change for your body. Check with your surgeon, as you advised, but I know that when I'm not getting enough calories that is when I tend to go through stalls. Good Luck on your journey!
  5. I don't calories, per se. I do keep a general idea of where they are to make sure that I am getting enough. I also pay attention to the calories on new foods just to be able to keep a general idea of my intake. I log via the fitbit app. My nutritionist goal is between 850-1000. Some days the total is closer to 1200. I'm not going to trip off it. I get my Protein, my fluids, and plenty of exercise.
  6. I know that this can all be very scary and unnerving. Try to keep in mind that insurance/doctor approval or denial is not a one time shot. (Not that it's going to be denied) Paperwork can always be resubmitted, God forbid it need to be.
  7. Search threads about three week stall. Typically happens about 2-3 weeks in. Nothing you can do, but hang in until it breaks. Have patience and follow the plan, its frustrating, but it will break.
  8. Best decision I have ever made regarding my health. I wish I had made it earlier in life. At 42, I regret the life not lived to the fullest, but look forward to the amazing days ahead.
  9. You're a very pretty YOUNG lady and at only 28 I'm pretty sure at your age you might be able to get your weight down by eating sensibly and walking, I am 55 and I have been trying for 10 years to get my weight off. I wish I was 28 again there are so many other ways besides weight loss surgery for you. I don't know your health matters or how long you've been trying to lose but if I was 28 I would try exercise over surgery any day. Good luck with whatever road you take, my daughter loves dance and she dropped at least 80 lbs doing Zumba and she was right about the age you are now when she got serious. Good luck. Sent from my 0PM92 using the BariatricPal App Wish I had done this at 28. I would've enjoyed my life so much more up to this point.
  10. Yes, I was sleeved on 10/26/2016. I am almost 60lbs down and it is already just part of my life. I only had a required 4 day liquid diet, but I did it for 9. I wanted to lose as much as possible pre surgery. I rocked the pre surgery liquids and the first week post surgery, the two week full liquid phase was by far the biggest struggle and from there it just got easier. The full liquid phase and the dreaded 3 week stall (you'll hear a lot about this here and not a lot of prep from doc or nutritionist) where mentally the hardest things I've have had to deal with through this process. My insurance was United Healthcare and I had the approval in about a week. Which procedure are you having? I'm Greg, from Fairview Hgts. Patient of Dr. Ricks. Awaiting approval for surgery. Would be interested in attending or meeting others who have made a decision to save themselve and take on this new lifestyle journey. Have been a paramedic for 26 years, have always put everyone else first, except for myself. Sent from my SM-G930P using the BariatricPal App Hi Greg - Dr. Ricks is great. I had the EGD at the end of July. No problems at all. I'm all for meeting people who are also on this journey. I took the following information from their website. 12. I wasn't cleared for Spinach of any kind until week 6.
  13. The answer is a resounding yes. You are expelling matter from your body and matter has weight. I have weighed myself before and after many times and there is a different, but usually it's ounces I've never had a scenario where it has shown more than a half lb. difference.
  14. Wait...I think this is post is missing Oprah screaming about bread.
  15. I actually read a study about this that said that's outdated information. The body will absorb whatever you eat, it just takes longer to do it. The 30g was what could be absorbed and converted in the timeframe that was being studied, but meals that have more than 30g are not just discarded, the remaining protein is held and converted slowly throughout the rest of the day. That is not to say that it's good to load up 100g of protein in one meal or anything, it's best to spread it out through all of the meals for a number of reasons, but extra protein at a given meal isn't just "lost". Good to know.
  16. Keep in mind that the body can only absorb 30g of protein at a time.
  17. Good Luck and welcome!
  18. I stressed about very similar things. I just told my work "It's coming" I'll let you know more when I know more. Surgeon's schedules usually open up after the holidays. I'm sure you'll be fine. Good Luck!
  19. I make a big pan of meatballs and package 2 or 3 (depending on size). Spoon a little low sugar marinara sauce on and top with mozzarella. I usually prepackage 2 or 3 servings and store the rest in sauce so my family can use it for spaghetti. I do the same thing with meatloaf or I'll dry brine a roasting chicken or turkey breast.
  20. Its great! 55lbs down so far. Don't tell John (the nutritionist) about the Patches, he will flip out...lol ( regardless...I use them too.) I have no problem with Protein, but I know what things are high in protein, so I try to have cottage cheese a couple of times a day, turkey and tuna or cod. I eat 6 tiny meals a day instead of 3, it's the only way I can do it, because I cannot stand the shakes at all anymore. Yeah he really is amazing! I'm doing good so far, I'm down 57 pounds. Pretty exciting. I was thinking about going in January too. It'd be nice to hear other people's experiences. I have a hard time getting the daily amount of protein, but I'm trying. And I had to switch to the Vitamin patches because I got tired of the chewable and got sick with the pills. How is it going for you? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App
  21. Not a part of a badass WLS couple like you, but praying for your hubs!
  22. It was hard to stick to the plan, but I did it. 2 months out and I can basically eat anything with the exception of citrus fruit, dried fruit, caffeine, alcohol (@ 3 months) and steak, pork steaks, ham steaks, or liver (@ 6 months, but for the record...I will not be eating the liver). Not judging, but in my personal experience...I did everything that I was told to do, because each step was so fleeting in the grand scheme. If I can't do something hard for 1, 2, or 8 weeks, how am I going to survive the rest of my life? I was really fat for 23 years. It was really hard to live fat for that long...really easy to get that way, but HARD TO LIVE that life, physically, emotionally, and psychologically. If you want to live something different, you've got to do something different. End of story.
  23. I haven't been to one either. I was thinking about going to one in January, but I hate new social situations...lol. I'm getting better though, more confident. Glad to meet people who are with Dr. Ricks though. This is my second surgery with him, he did a double hernia repair for me last year and he was so amazing that it really made me rethink my years of swearing I'd never have WLS. It looks like you had your procedure about 3 weeks before I did. Hope everything is going well.
  24. Which surgery center did you use? I have one for Des Peres.
