I admit it I am having a mental battle with Protein Powder, actually shakes as well. If I mix a shake to drink I literally want to throw up ( I actually have) I can stomach some premier but I know I'm supposed to drink 4 a day.
I am 10 weeks post op sleeve, doing well except for feeling hungry and tired most days. Also had a vicious UTI last week. ER said I was dehydrated. I'm down 45lbs
I'm struggling. I would love some ideas for mega high Protein suggestions. Or how to break through this mental block

Wow what a mess, hang in there but something to consider is if it's stressful now how are you coping, if the answer is food, imagine if that were not available? I'm still struggling with that 4 months out

Also I'll second Amy, I also had a full hysterectomy and like you was exhausted and out of work a lot longer than I thought. But I had a band revision to duodenal switch sleeve and gallbladder surgery on a Wednesday and went back to work on Monday(not super energetic but I could sit at my desk)

I wish you luck it's a challenging journey but I'm down 60lbs so it sure helps

All I can do is suggest do what the Doctor told you & if you are uncomfortable sitting or lying down put as many pillows behind you that feel comfortable , also if you have a recliner sit or sleep in in it even with as many pillows for the first like 3 days but keep to the post op diet & take the medication as you need it .
It will get better & maybe just take a few steps every 1/2 hr but it does get better.
Good luck on your Journey .
I'm not on here much anymore but I am 4 years out & I am so happy with my results & what I have been able to accomplish I am banded.
    Hopefully this helps.

I am in the EXACT same boat. I'm 5 days post op too. I'm so hungry. Not my stomach hurting or anything, just these liquids. Oh. My. Gosh. I don't ever want to see broth or Jello ever again in my life. I'm so excited that Monday I can have pudding LOL.

Don't do Protein shakes if you can't stomach them. I didn't. The two week pre surgery diet was hell to me because I hated them.
After surgery, I didn't have even one. I hid Protein powder in other ingredients, like Soup, early on, and did a lot of dairy to get my Protein up. Fairlife milk is just as good as Protein Shakes, honestly, and Greek yogurt is also an excellent source.
I was determined to do it in a healthy way without fake foods, and I did. And still am at 9 months out! You can too.

I am almost 2 years out and I still cannot stand Protein drinks. Hate them. The first year they did make me want to vomit, now they are just gross but I can stomach them. If it were not for the Protein cake I never would have made my protein goals though.
It looks like everyone so far that has posted are pretty new, so maybe they aren't familiar with the protein cakes either. It's really simple though. In a big coffee cup or a small bowl add one scoop of Protein Powder. I use Gold Standard whey, but you can use whatever whey you want. It needs to be whey though. Add just enough coffee creamer to turn it into a batter. Add one half teaspoon baking powder (not soda). I microwave mine for 25 seconds for a lava cake type consistency. Others will go for about 45 for a fluffy cake.
If I am feeling really fancy, I use my add Peanut Butter to the batter and "ice" the cake with plain yogurt.

OMG, you r so floating with me on this boat and I am floating with all this Water. I might as well sit on the toilet and drink my water, ice tea, broth. I didn't get the option of beef broth but I will take your word for it. I was told I can have diet snapple, so tonight's treat was crushed ice and diet Snapple (sort of like a slushy). But those Protein shakes i am so over. But thx for sharing, not that I want you feeling shaky but knowing I am not alone. thank u... hw - 444 ~ surgery date - 11/23 ~ cw - 378

Has anyone made this? I get to go to puréed foods on Tuesday and chicken salad is on my approved list. I don't like mayo so I thought this recipe might work. Recipe is:
    2 lb. chicken breast
    16 oz cream cheese
2 packets of ranch dressing mix powder
    8 slices bacon crumbled
Bake first three ingredients in crockpot for 6 hours, shred and mix in crumbled bacon.
A 4 oz serving is 20 grams Protein, 8 gr fat and 4 grams of carbs.
Now I doubt I can eat anywhere near four ounces early in but think this might be a good go to for me. Anyone else try this recipe?

pixiechick reacted to PorkChopExpress in How Did You Get Through the Pre-Op Diet?
Pure grit and determination, and focusing on the fact that it had a time limit. I kept reminding myself that I made this decision because I knew I needed to make some major changes, long-lasting changes, and so I started feeling like the pre-op diet was a test of my will and dedication to the process. I started taking pride in not cheating, after a while...no matter how much my stomach rumbled and ached. And sure enough, after surgery, it wasn't a concern anymore. I couldn't even imagine putting anything in there for several days!
One thing that I did do that helped mentally though was, the week prior to the pre-op diet, I went ahead and had whatever meals I would miss. I must have had buffalo wings 4-5 times. And after a while, I think it made something click in my mind and realize that I was being dominated by food. Why did I feel the need to do that week or splurging...wasn't it an acknowledgement that it was food that was at the wheel, and not me? So it ended up being a helpful part of my "letting go" process, which then had to continue for the first 10 days or so after surgery. But I'm in a much better place now, and am embracing change.
