I am 5 weeks post op and have been feeling pretty down. No weight loss for almost two weeks now. And I know it's part of the course, but nonetheless it's hard. I decided to go jogging tonight without my dogs. Sometimes they can be such a distraction. And boy, I am so glad I did. As I put on one of my favorite tunes "Parallel Lines" by Junior Boys, I began running, and running, and running and I didn't stop for 10 whole minutes. I felt SO ALIVE! I haven't felt like that for 5 years. It is a newfound vitality and it felt amazing. I couldn't believe my feet weren't giving out, I couldn't believe my knees didn't start hurting. Even my hips were okay! I felt so much lighter on my feet. I have lost a total of 28 lbs since my pre-op diet, 18 of which were lost after surgery. I can't believe how such a little amount of weight loss has made such a difference in my ability. I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it. I just feel so lucky to have had this surgery and it is making such a HUGE difference SO FAST and sometimes I lose sight of that.
A before pic and me tonight... feeling so great!!!

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I know it happened to me before I was sleeved about three & a half years ago.
Now that I'm far enough on the other side, I look at some of the food I used to shovel down & ask, "Why did this food(s) have such power over me? What about it did I let control my life?" And I reply back to myself, "I don't know."
What if - just as an experiment - you look at food & really ask yourself why it has power over you?
Good luck. You are not alone.

Maybe it's time to change that old profile pic, @_Kate_, so it reflects who you are now.

Of course you're not the only one to go through this. I bet you'd find the vast majority of us on this board have made a bad choice or three pre or post surgery.
Beating yourself up feels pretty good sometimes, right? Do you know what feels better all the time? Being your own best friend. What if you tried that instead?

@FluffyChix You've repeatedly asserted that marijuana causes the munchies. Maybe that's the case for you. But that's not the case for everyone.
While the original poster asked about smoking, smoking isn't the only way to ingest marijuana. Edibles exist to avoid inhalation & problems associated with it.

False. Smoking cigarettes is 1000000x worse. I don't even smoke pot (besides once in Amsterdam) & I'd do it over cigarettes any day.

What you're experiencing is very common. I experienced it too.
Here's the way I think about it: First you were probably on a liquid diet. Second, you had surgery. Third, you lost weight quickly. All these stages are temporary. Now you've reached the fourth stage, which in my opinion is permanent. It's the maintenance phase. What happens now is much less dramatic. Now it's no longer about the sleeve doing the work. Now it's about YOU doing the work. This is the phase all other phases have been building up to. This is where the real day to day work happens.
As far as I know, we all go through these same stages. Welcome to the other side. You are not alone here. Good luck.

This sounds very much like my experience, though wine was my drink of choice.
A lie we tell ourselves is that "no one noticed". If you drank as much as we did, believe me, someone noticed at some point.
I got to the point that drinking became more painful than not drinking. When you reach that inflection point, it becomes much easier to quit than when you're in the depth of it.
It's now been more than six months since I've had a drink. I've talked about this on this board previously. At night I have one small marijuana edible to take the edge off. Ninety minutes later I'm ready to go to sleep. I sleep so much better now & I'm saving a ton of money.
@_Kate_ if you ever want to message me privately for support, please don't hesitate to do so! Good luck. You are not alone.

You are pretty brave to reach out to your doctor and to post your experience here! I worry about slipping back to daily drinking myself, and after reading your experience, maybe the best approach (for me) is to just not start again.

I used to live in Boston & know that place! In the more than three years since I was sleeved, I don't go to all you can eat restaurants any more. For me it's become more about quality than quantity. I'm lucky that my wife really supports me both at home & at restaurants. She's good about sharing. I mention this not just as a suggestion, but as proof that when someone helps you, your efforts multiply. Good luck. You are not alone.

There's no such thing as "losing like everyone else". Each of us loses a bit differently. The important part is your weight is coming down, which should lead to healthier outcomes. Good luck to you. You are not alone.

@Sosewsue61 is right: The liquid diet is to shrink your liver. Don't discount the importance of this.
Second, consuming liquids before surgery gets you used to it. You're going to need to be used to it right after surgery.
The good news for you is that you're part of a community that has gone through the same thing! You are not alone. Good luck!
