Brandeis got a reaction from UntamedIrish in What Post-Sleeve Rules Do You Break?
For me, I break a lot of rules -- a lot -- but I break them sparingly, which I think is why I've been so successful thus far. I've had sodas, now and then; full calorie ones, if I do it, because it's a treat that I have only now and then & I know how many calories it is. I eat sweets, but only a very small amount, which is usually enough to satisfy. At parties, etc, I indulge in things I never would at home.

But on the day to day basis, I follow the rules. I no longer sit and eat an ENTIRE THING of oreos. Instead I eat 2.

Abstinence doesn't work, but moderation does....

It still is uncomfortable for me at almost a year out -- but only if I eat too fast, or too much, or eat and drink at the same time. If you go slow, are careful, and chew everything well, it'll be better.

I go to a fancy party every oct...dug out my picture from last year (size 22) to compare to this year (size 12, and that's in DESIGNER sizes) and...wow! By this point last year I'd already lost about 20 pounds on my pre-op diet, and was feeling really good about how I looked. Everyone was complimenting my weight loss....lmfao
One year next week. I'm going to have to dig out the big dresses to put on and compare again!

Went to ren faire this weekend....and my garb was TOO BIG. I put it on, had to take it off and lace everything up completely, as tight as it could go. Still too big. Could put my entire hand in there. Oh well.

Left is around 194. Right is around 300.

salad was off my list for about 3 months, according to my diet plan. It's just rough on the tum. Anything that high in Fiber, actually, can just shoot through you (a charming picture, I know) and you have to be careful eating.

Try the liquid over the powder. I can no longer stomach the powdered stuff (not after I saw the residue it left behind in some of my bottles...) but the liquid is the bomb.

It'll come off. Most programs advise you not to weigh yourself outside of post-op checkins with doctors. we all weigh ourselves anyway. lol. but it'll be better once you're able to walk/run/whatever exercise you do, to get your metabolism moving, and believe it or not, once you're able to eat MORE you might start losing more.

As I see it, though, as long as the scale is moving in the right overall direction, don't stress it.

Been so busy, I didn't have time to go for a walk/run for about 3 weeks. I was ridiculously excited when I finally had a day to do it........that would never have happened before!

Brandeis got a reaction from ladygg1967 in Just Curious .. can you handle bread, rice, pasta?
I can tolerate a very small amount of all three. Rice & bread have a tendency to swell in your stomach, though, so eating a lot of them can make me sick; if I eat more than a tablespoon or two of rice I can feel it starting to rise up, and it's really unpleasant. A great way to control cravings.

I definitely eat all three now and then, but only as a "treat" and a special occasion thing. None really have Protein, so they don't have a lot of what I need to keep myself going. Focus on that protein first!

Brandeis reacted to KarenOR in How important is exercise?
I would say that exercise is crucial in the long run but with such restricted calories in the weight loss phase, you can do without as far as weight loss goes. But, exercise can only help. What about Water? Water walking, jogging, water fitness classes. All are low to no impact and so good for circulation.
Nothing wrong with walking only 15 minutes at a time, either.

I briefly thought the same thing. Man, did those pounds pour off during the first week of the liquid diet. But, all I had to do was remind myself what always happened on a diet. The pounds pour off, then at some point I'd get to hungry, or lose interest, and go off diet. No sooner would I do that then all that weight would pile right back on.
Have you done diets before? How did they turn out? And if you haven't ever actually tried a diet, then I'm surprised you've gotten to this point in the surgery process. Usually doctors like to know that you've tried diets before.

Brandeis got a reaction from Sosewsue61 in Got a date... Chickened out!
Complications are EXTREMELY rare. Of course there's always a risk, but they wouldn't be offering the surgery if there were extreme risk.

At 33 I can tell you, I wish very much it were something I'd done at 26 instead. The risks are worse down the line, for many reasons -- and your results won't be as good. Mine have been excellent but it's taken work. Almost 10 years ago, I wouldn't have all the loose skin I have now, I wouldn't have to worry about that so much.

However, if you keep freaking out, I think what you need to do is talk to a psychiatrist. This sounds like true anxiety, since it's so extremely irrational -- and that's fine. It's a hard thing to deal with. But if you're serious, you need to actually deal with it, and talking to someone might help with that.
