FarmerJulie got a reaction from GBLady41 in Frustrated, depressed, confused 5 1/2 weeks post op
Eh, ok. Back to liquids with a little cottage cheese, yogurt, and refried Beans added in. Haven't thrown up in a couple of days! I see the surgeon Tuesday, but the barium swallow test isn't till the week after. I actually feel better. Throwing up takes alot of energy! Thanks for asking!

You do not need to rush into the transition to solid foods. According to my surgeon's guidelines, I was not approved to transition to solid foods until week 9 after my RNY gastric bypass surgery. It is a hard transition.
I tend to agree with you that something is wrong. If you are vomiting up Water, that is not a good sign. The two main culprits are stricture or ulcer.
My surgeon recommend that I take the proton-pump inhibitor Omeprazole (Prilosec) for the first year after surgery. This was to help the stomach to properly heal. So if you are not already taking this, you might speak to your surgeon about this need.

Prilosec will be your best friend. Most foods have a lot of acid and after surgery your stomach is so small. AVOID FISH AND meats. I had the same problem with mine. To this day I am 11 months out and still have trouble with meats and fish. just make sure you drink enough as dehydration is very easy now.
Best of luck.

FarmerJulie got a reaction from giglag1227 in Supportive... but not
Try to keep it simple. Highly processed fat free foods are gross. I agree!! But steamed veggies are good, skinless chicken is good, fresh fruit etc. Highly season, but don't heavily sauce your food. Stay away from high carb/sugar foods and have some healthy fats. There are so many tasty recipes out there! This isn't a prison sentence. You are choosing to undergo a surgery for a healthier you. Starting down the path now will make it easier in the long run. You can do it!!

FarmerJulie got a reaction from Jdserra in Kaiser Oregon - Not Covered?
I am three weeks out. I had gastric bypass at Kaiser Sunnyside. Are you in the Portland area? Mine was definitely covered! It's a huge program. Takes a while to get through. With Kaiser the first step is a referral from your primary, so go see them. I am guessing Member services was getting it wrong.
