    Wow...what a journey! I remember the dreaded 6 months pre-op and now I am 6 months post-op!
Started at 260 and am now 175. Down 85lbs. About another 30 or so to go! So weird to be only 30lbs away from the end goal. Never in my life....

sarahblu reacted to abjale in 4 month out with thoughts and feelings (and pics!)
My gastric bypass surgery was 4 months ago--January 23rd 2017.

    Age: 22
    Height: 5ft
    High weight: 220
    Surgery weight: 214
    Current weight: 158
    Goal weight: 150 (so close!)

I've tried to make a point of taking a picture when I hit a 10 pound weight loss mark. I had the surgery to avoid future comorbidities because with PCOS and hypothyroid issues (not to mention a whole list of family illnesses I'm at risk of) this surgery was my best chance of reaching a healthy weight and keeping it.
Im not out of the woods yet! 4 months out and 8 pounds from my goal this process has been the hardest thing I've ever done. Here are a few things I've noticed:
I started at a lower weight and I cannot compare my weight loss journey to others and I would caution other people from doing the same. ive stopped comparing the pounds I have lost to the pounds of others. It will rob you of joy. Celebrate your successes.
Physicaly: I feel strong. Like hulk strong. i can cross my legs now! How bout that!? Yet I don't think that I have all my energy back. I'm lethargic, I get tired easily, I sleep A LOT.
Getting in enough Protein is a struggle. Remembering to take all those Vitamins is a struggle too. I find that when I forget the reaction is usually delayed. 2 or 3 days down the road it hits me hard.
I now wear a size 12/14. I started at a 22. I went to a wedding over the weekend and got several comments about how thin I looked from people who hadn't seen me since before my surgery. I'm very open when I talk about this surgery (I know that not everyone is because, let's face it, there are some really ignorant judgemental people who have no idea what it's like) and I do try to educate if people seem genuinely interested in finding out. The positive voices in my life tend to drown out the negative ones.
Im loosing hair by the fistful. It's alarming! My self confidence and drive is at an all-time high. It's fantastic! I've started working out and I even began Insanity. I have really good days and I have days where I break down. My teeth are starting to have problems. My face looks older. My skin is sagging. Shopping for clothing is both exhilarating and frustrating. I've donated bags and bags to goodwill and there is still a nagging voice in the back of my head that says one day I might need them again.
Everyone at work and everyone in my family knows I've had the surgery. It keeps me accountable but I also feel that it puts a lot of pressure on me to "deliver". In the years to come I wonder how quickly people will look me up and down and speculate about my weight. Have I gained? Have I lost? And I know they will because (I'm sad to say) I do this to others all the time. Ive made some friends who've had the surgery--some who've kept the weight off and others who haven't. I don't take a single pound that I shed for granted.
I don't crave food as much. It's like some spell that made me a ravenous binge eater is, at least for now, broken. People ask if I regret the surgery and depending on the day, you'll get a different answer. I'm enjoying the journey.

    anyone else feel this way?

So I am just about a year out since my surgery. Had it on May 23rd of 2016.
Far and away I can say this was the BEST decision that I have ever made in my life. My highest weight was 433 lbs with my surgery weight at 397 lbs. Proud to say just about a year after surgery I currently weigh 194 pounds. 203 pounds down since the surgery and 241 down overall.
I literally cannot even tell you how much this has changed my life for the better. I am posting this because I want everyone to know that if I did it you can too. If anyone has literally any questions at all for me please don't hesitate to reach out. I

I went from 240 ish to 128ish now. Not really sure what I weigh exactly cause I stopped caring. I'm 5'6 and I wear a size 0-4 depending...
I can run about five miles without getting tired. That's the best thing to me.

I had the same issue around the same timeframe. It reminded me of being pregnant with morning sickness! My NUT assured me that i was still healing and that at my 6 month mark, i would be a completely different person and feel a million times better. Hard to hear when you feel so crappy. I had to just take it day by day and tell myself it will end. After about a month and half, it was like a light switch and it was completely done. Havent been nauseous or vomited since. That was 5 months ago! Make sure you rule out any true issues with your doctor first though!

After 2 months of strict adherence to the plan along with a rigorous workout schedule 6 days a week. (Self -imposed) I learned from my trainer/NUT that I am working-out too hard and not eating enough! Who knew??
This news has brought mixed emotions... Not upset as my body composition has improved, and I have gotten much stronger and fit, but I have taken myself out of the weight loss cycle in the process. It is also unsettling that in my zest for success, I have frustrated the process instead of improved it.
At the DR office, I also had my BMR measured, (2400 Calories resting). Then add 1,000 more a day for my daily exercise regiment (tracked by heart monitor) and another 500-1000 for normal daily activity over the other waking hours of my day, and I am about a typical BMR of 3500- 4500 calories a day!
I averaged about 1500 - 1800 calories a day of food 120 Protein, >75 carbs, etc... My NUT said the ideal caloric intake is to be within 500 calories of your BMR to loose the most weight. So rather than eat 4000 calories a day, I need to burn less calories and eat nearly the same.
I trust their advice is good as it is coming from the Dr office, and I am excited to find out. My only recommendation is if you are doing everything perfectly for over a month and still stalling, you might want to check in with the DR or NUT to make sure you are still in the appropriate balance with the plan according to your specific body, BMR, etc...
My new exercise plan I only do 20 min cardio, and lift weights only 3 days a week (not 6). What is weird, instead of being happy I can do less, I am more fearful. But I decided to commit to the professional's advice and not my wisdom and then see what happens.
I am excited to see the scale move again for about 10-20 lbs in a row. Wish me luck!
