I just wanted to come on and say that I feel incredibly blessed to have such a great support system throughout this process. Tomorrow I start my medical leave and get sleeved early tomorrow morning. I've been on a 2 week liquid diet and my colleagues decided to have a surprise Protein shake lunch with me! I feel extremely blessed and wish this kind of support for WLS was shown everywhere!

The 20 min ride is no biggie...I live so far in the woods, 20 min rides don't slow me down. Today I did my walk outside, holy moly...winter is coming...seeing my breath as I huffed and puffed was a motivator... tomorrow I will be at the gym...no more cold freaking morning walks. Thanks for all the support and advice. I'm feeling excited about this...now that the owner has shown me every piece of equipment in the gym AND had me try it out, so I know how to use it...now I don't feel like a bull in a China shop. I'm excited to get my groove on! Again thanks you all!!

I'll second @@jenn1 's mention of a music playlist and good headphones...has changed my gym-going life. I get super bored doing cardio without them, and they help distract me when I get self-conscious and think that someone surely must be staring at me (even though they're totally not). I splurged on a pair of Bluetooth earbuds after nearly strangling myself with a pair of regular wired ones while using the rowing machine one day (ok, people probably WERE staring then) - one of my best investments. They get constant use in and out of the gym, and I can tuck my phone away and not have to worry about it until I'm done working out.
My other favorite gym-related investment? Waterproof iPod Shuffle. Rocking out while swimming laps? Yaaaaaaaas. Makes 60 laps a LOT less tedious.

I wasn't going to start a strength training program until after I'd built my cardio up. But the trainer made a good point to me that if you don't do some strength training, you can actually lose muscle only doing cardio. You don't have to go for bulky muscles to do strength training. Most people don't, actually. But muscle mass is part of what helps you lose weight by increasing your metabolism even when you're not working out. So it's important. He convinced me to start both strength training and cardio together.

Oh, and one more thing... even if you don't hire a trainer, the gym people will show you how to use equipment you're not familiar with, you just have to ask. Most gyms have people there who are super nice and want to help you succeed. Don't be afraid of them!

unjury also has a "starter kit" that includes samples of 5 different flavors (2 packs of each flavor) for about $20. The chicken Soup flavor is in there. It also has a shaker bottle and a thermometer to help you keep from overheating the chicken soup one.
I haven't gotten mine yet, but it's on the way. I'm kind of skeeved out by the idea of a warm Protein shake, so I'm interested to try the chicken one too.

I kept doing them, but not with the primary goal of keeping on track.
My insurance required 6 consecutive months of PCP visits, and I was told they would be very strict about that - if I missed a month, even by just a few days, it would knock me back to the beginning and the six month count would start all over again.
I was paranoid that after all my paperwork was submitted, insurance would come back and say something was coded wrong for my month 2 visit (or some other nit-picky thing like that), and was afraid that if I stopped going every month I'd get knocked back for something dumb like that.
TL;DR: I kept going every month until I had the insurance approval in hand because I was paranoid.
