nicksmommy reacted to Cocoabean in Do I Need Another Fill?
My surgeon said he'd prefer I sneak up on my green zone with more smaller fills than having a big one then unfilling, then another big one, then unfilling.
That said, I was overfilled once. Not fun. I got an unfill of half the fill I had put in. Instant relief. A month later I was able to go in and get that replaced plus more. Go figure!
Bands are our fickle friends sometimes. You just need to be open to NOT getting a fill, or just a teensy to off.

My ipod ran out of charge half way through my run this morning, grrrrrr.
I would DIE if anyone every found my ipod dropped in the street and listened to it, lol. I actually like to listen to the Best of Wham when I run, its like an 80's revivial party!. Old 80's aerobics dance mixes are good too. Ipods are so wonderful, you can listen to the most embarrassing, daggiest music that you wouldnt be caught dead with playing audibly in your house or car.
I dont know why they never took off in the US, too Aussie pub rock I think, but you guys just dont know the joys of some loud Cold Chisel!

Absolutely: don't despair or give up! This has been an amazing and very interesting journey....I may have 15-20 lbs to "re-lose" [and still 25 or so more to get to goal] but I still consider my weight loss a huge success overall.
For me, the first year was the quickest and most weight loss, then more gradual after that. Before the surgery, I read and researched a LOT, and so I felt pretty prepared. One of the "downers" [at least I thought so at the time, but it so was not a downer, in the long run] of what I read was that one book talked about "success" with a lap band being a loss of 50% of the excess weight. Well, phooey, I thought, when I figured that out, being then at 280 lbs with a goal of 150, or a hopeful loss of 130 lbs. [which seemed insurmountable at the time....I was convinced that I would be the one person in the world for whom this surgery wouldn't work].
So, 50% of 130 would be a loss of 65 lbs, and this particular bariatric center writing the book would think I was a success, and anything else would be gravy [always with the food images, of course.] Big Whoop.
But when I actually HAD lost that 65 lbs I was amazed that it was such a huge difference, physically, mentally, in all ways. While I certainly wanted to lose more, some part of me also knew that yes, this WAS a success, and that if for some reason that was it for the weight loss, I could live with it, and feel good about it. [And then I gradually just kept losing weight, which was of course very satisfying, regardless of what I just said!]
Sometimes, especially in that first year, I felt as though learning to live with my LapBand was like learning to live with an infant, who quickly became a cranky toddler, who could be sweet as could be at times and an unpredictable demon at other times. I had to learn to figure out the subtle signals [to avoid the temper tantrums], couldn't imagine how this could POSSIBLY make me throw up, when yesterday I ate that just fine, and so on. And just like with a child, might love him/her dearly, but some days leaving that wee beastie on someone else's doorstep seemed like a good idea.
Portions: ha! It took forever to figure out, and BELIEVE, that that itty bitty thing on my plate would be ENOUGH, certainly I needed to fix TWO hamburgers, plus fries, that's what my mind told me, even if yesterday I could only eat less than a half of one, and had felt full and satisfied. Talk about a learning curve: sometimes it was a steep one, and sometimes it was flat, and sometimes I didn't seem to be learning a darned thing. :mad3:
It took a while to realize that this wasn't going to be a finite project, with surgery done, lose weight, then forget about it and on with life. It continues to be a day to day process, just like living with a child. A pain at times, but so worth it in the long run. [And it is soooooo nice to be able to buy clothes without any X's in the size!].......Diane

nicksmommy reacted to SageTracey in Coffee After Lap Band Surgery?
Definitely follow YOUR doctor's advice. But for the record - mine has never suggested I shouldn't/couldn't drink coffee before or after my surgery. I drink three cups a day with no ill effects and I have lost 112lb in 8 months.

Love to hear these NSVs!. I think it's easy to get focused on that number on the scale which can lead to discouragement. I am struggleing to get back on track after some regain, going for 3 good days in a row. Hopefully some NSV's to come soon!

Ok. Number ONE NSV: Now weigh less then my hubby. TWO: Hours of fun sliding my buttoned pants down over my hips. THREE: Went into Victoria Secerts and fit in something right off the shelf - a 38DD, but didn't buy because I didn't want it to be too big next month. (was a 42DDD/44DD). FOUR: Got rid of bags of clothing that was too big- all my size 22, and 2x and 3x's. FIVE: The size 18 jeans I bought two weeks ago are loose! Put on a new pair size 16 jeans! I could zip them while standing up, even breath and move in them-no problem. and SIX: A friend of mine since kindergarden came over last weekend and said ' you are full of energy, I haven't seen you like this in years"

nicksmommy reacted to motivatedlap in Nsv's Anyone?
Going into my closet and not being able to wear any of it because it's too big, which led me to go shopping where I purchased dresses and tops a size or two smaller than usual. Also, my "skinny jeans" were a little saggy yesterday- but they were tight two weeks ago.

I had three this past weekend...I went away to visit a friend I have not seen in 6 months. He plays basketball. After the game, he told me that he was looking for me in the stands and he did not recognize me!!! The other was while out buying an outfit to wear to the game, I was able to purchase a shirt in a medium and jeans in a size 12!!! Pretty good beings I was wearing a 2xl and a size 22 just 7 months ago! =) While wearing this outfit, I decided to take a pic and post it on Facebook (first pic in a couple months), almost 60 comments with one saying how beautiful I was...It was a good weekend!

My favourites were being asked to model at a local fashion show and having neighbours not recognise me. I saw one at the post box a couple of weeks ago and she asked me if I was the new person that had just moved into the street!

nicksmommy reacted to sam3841 in Nsv's Anyone?
I think my favorite nsv was seeing my ex at a party and then all his friends who used to say how fat I was, come up and tell me how good I looked. I just smiled, thanked them and told them loud enough so he could hear too that it was only going to get better.

nicksmommy reacted to suzbuni in Am I Going To Lose Friends Over My Lapband?
Yes I heard all the same comments and even more. One of my best friends tried to talk me out of surgery. When, she realized I wasn't changing my mind she said. " well, what am I going to do, I'm not big enough for surgery. How am I suppose to keep up?" She was scared I would be skinny and she would still be over weight.( not by very much). She is good now, but as the weight is dropping off and her is staying the same, I can tell she is not pleased with herself. When I go to the gym and she says. "you need to take me with you, why did you go without me? I need to get in shape!" I replied- I DID call you and ask if you wanted to go, remember? So she said next time make me go. haha. Most of my friends and family have been really supportive. I know it not easy change for some people. It changes their own self preceptions. My sister had WLS in september. Ironically we both had set up our first appointments with the surgeons the same timeframe but didn't know the other sister was doing it. She called me and told be she was thinking about having WLS, and I laughed and told her my appointment with doctor was in two days. She had allready been seeing a nutriutionist for over a year so she got approved and had surgery done within a month of that call. I just had mine done last month. It worked out great because she was there for me when my turn came around. Let me know what worked and didn't work for her. She has always been the heavier the sister. And I have to be honest, It stung a little inside, when she first told me her weight was under mine. So I kind of understand how that feels. But I was am happy for her and how healthy she was becoming. I'm her biggest fan and she is my greatest support! We send photos back and forth and text our new weights to each other. Last time I took a picture of me standing on scale - I had dropped to 218(from 256 highest)lbs. she wrote back. PLEASE , now that you lost all this weight, treat yourself to a pedicure before you send another photo like that. Scary toes!

nicksmommy reacted to JennK2008 in How Many People Have You Told?
I was banded in September 2009 and I only told my family and very close friends. The only reason I didn't tell anyone else was it was none of their business and I was afraid that I would fail like I had at every diet I had tried before. Not to mention that people who have never ahd a weight problem can be so judgemental and think that WLS is the easy way out. When people started noticing my weight loss and asked me how I was doing it I would tell them that I cut out all the bad stuff that I was over indulging in before (bread, sweets, soda and fast food etc). I wasn't lying I just didn't tell the entire story.
After losing 114 pounds (even though I have gained some back), I have proven to myself that I am not a failure and I am no longer ashamed of failure and am proud to tell people about my band! In fact I was asked to give my testimony at the WLS seminar where I had my surgery done. I was so glad to share my story with others who were considering having surgery.
Good luck to you on your journey and do what makes you comfortable!!

nicksmommy reacted to Cocoabean in Is There Still Hope For Me??
Absolutely you can! An empty band is like a car without gas. It's nice to have, but doesn't do much for you. As you fill it up, it gets you to where you want to go.
I am sorry for the hard times you've been through. I am happy to hear how you've pulled through. As you get fills and find restriction, follow band rules and you should be able to start losing weight! That is the joy of the band. You can jump back on the wagon at any time.
And the folks here are here for support! Welcome back to band land!

nicksmommy reacted to Jenn1214 in Finally...the Scale Is Moving Again!
I hit a plateau that lasted about 6 weeks, so I knew something had to give. I was so frustrated I went as far as to have my thyroid checked (everything is fine). Last week I joined a gym and signed up with a trainer, and increased my Protein and Water intake. I stepped on the scale this morning and bam! Down 3 pounds! I also have a lot more energy, which is a great bonus. Take that, plateau!

First off thank you for your honesty. Secondly get the word failure out of your vocabulary. I have not had the surgery yet, but I've been overweight yo-yo up and down my entire life. We self sabotage our success. For every "failure", you need to recognize a success, like the fact that you took a step to save your life! Start from scratch. Take today and make it yours. Your surgeon is not your enemy, he's there to help. Prayers for you in getting back on track. Thank you again for posting!

I'm happy to say that I lost weight over the holidays, but I did not deny myself. I had some chocolate and dessert every night!
But I am still 4 lbs from my New Years goal. So I need to step it up. Thanks for the added push.

nicksmommy reacted to healthy and happy in Back On The Band Wagon-lets Go!
Ok Everybody!
Christmas is officially over. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. I ate what I wanted today, just not as much as I would have in the past. I hope you all indulged a little too if you really wanted to. But now, lets get it back on track tomorrow. Dont do what we have in the past. Dont say "Well I'll just wait till the end of the year and start fresh." Get back on track tomorrow! Get to the gym or get on whatever exercize routine you generally do. Get back to the healthy eating too!
Last year I would have been making every excuse in the world not to get back on track but not now! I am determined that this process is a life change not just a temporary diet. I feel very motivated and empowered to make the right decisions to keep this weight off. So tomorrow get off that couch and get moving. It will be so much easier than waiting. Sittling around eating wrong and not exercizing for another week waiting for the New Year will only make it that much harder to get back on track!
So what will you do??? Will you change your life forever? Keep your goals in mind? Or will you put it off and make yet another unkept New Years resolution this year???
Lets do this once and for all!!
