I'm a hot mess! A huge ball of anxiety. I say horribly inappropriate rude things to staff when I am like this. They just need to drug my butt when I get there. I am a nurse and was a Paramedic for years so I know everything that is going to be happening and I am totally OK doing it to other people, not having it done to me. I sound awful but I can't help it right now. Wish me luck and maybe the staff too. We will all need it.

gossamer818 reacted to UberBuffaloGal in Sleeve scheduled for 10/19- would you do it again?
I would definitely do it again, but it was miserable for me. I didn't have any complications, but my hunger never left. My stomach would growl so loud others could hear it. I was hungry all the time for the first three months, but could not eat. I was miserable. Now 7 months out, I am used to my growling tummy and less food. But now thirsty all the time, and is hard to get Water in.
But, in the end so very worth it! 238 to 161, 20 lbs from goal. No diabetes, no sleep apnea, I had a hernia they repaired so no more reflux. But most amazingly of all I have had Migraines for 4 to 5 days a week for years. I have had one Migraine in the last 7 months. That alone made it totally worth it.

I swear by GENEPRO unflavored Protein powder. You can add it to anything. 30 grams of Protein for 1 tablespoon.
Is it the texture or the taste of your shakes that is making you nauseous? If the texture, I agree that you can try making them thinner with more Water, and shaking or blending them with ice.
If flavor is an issue, I love to add some PB2 powdered Peanut Butter to my shakes. Great flavor enhancer and it adds more protein.
There are also high protein gelatins and puddings sold on BariatricPal Store that are good, but again, you can achieve something similar by mixing some GENEPRO (or other unflavored protein powder) into a s-f pudding or other food.
    Good luck!

I pretty much drink flavored Water. I use the SF Crush packets, ORANGE AND GRAPE CRUSH. I also love Diet Peach Snapple Tea. I am also a coffee drinker, I have at least 1 cup per day made with my Keurig coffee with added GENEPRO NONFLAVORED Protein. I love my coffee so it is a win win for me. I know some DR's say no coffee but mine never told me not to drink it. I have had no problems with it. I'm 3 yrs out and have been at my goal weight of 125#'s for 2 and 1/2 years.

You are going to get suggestions and advice from all over place.. LOL We all have different experiences... I have always known what I needed to eat in order to lose weight... My issue before surgery was control... and yes.. I probably ate some things that I shouldn't have eaten BUT.... the beauty of this surgery is the fact that it has given me what I didn't have before.. C O N T R O L!!! I enjoy pretty much the same foods as I enjoyed before.. Just very small portions... Now granted.. I do lead with Protein first which definitely fills you up faster but I also enjoy my carbs. I can eat rice, Pasta, etc.. but I do so in moderation. If I crave a cookie I eat a cookie... The difference is that before surgery I would eat 8-10 oreos... Now I have one or two and am completely satisfied. I make better choices because I now eat to fuel my body versus out or boredom.
My philosophy is this..... I didn't have this surgery to be on a diet for the rest of my life.. For the past 20 years I have counted points, carbs, exercised 5-6 days of week, etc... to only lose at the most 40 lbs before plateauing... My body was just too comfortable being fat and I needed to do something drastic to shock it into losing weight.
Because of this surgery I have finally won my weight loss battle! My surgeon says I was the "perfect" candidate and honestly... my entire experience has been pretty easy and nothing short of amazing!!!
I LOVE MY SLEEVE!! Best decision I have ever made and best money I ever spent!!!

If you call the customer service number and choose the bariatric option, they have a one time sample pack you can order. They send you 15 single shake servings for $15 plus 1.99 shipping. That lets you try 15 of the 17 flavors that they offer. That's how I started with them. My nut recommended it.

Sounds like me! I'm a month and some change post-op and I honestly don't remember ever feeling this good. I've dropped 50+lbs since the start of the liquid diet pre-op and the weight is falling away. It's pretty f-ckin' awesome, yeah?

gossamer818 reacted to Babbs in Noodles
I'm 2+ years out, and I don't eat Pasta and haven't since surgery. I'm personally choosing to stay away from anything "white"--pasta noodles, bread, rice, potatoes. They are processed differently in our bodies which can possibly cause cravings and hunger (and weight gain).
I eat pretty clean, because let's face it, eating the way I did before didn't work, right? I was morbidly obese and so unhealthy. The "little of this and a little if that" theory works great for most people early out pre op, because let's face it, you're going to lose some weight no matter what. But there's going to come a time when you can eat more, you're hungry more frequently, and can tolerate pretty much everything. So what's the better choice then? A cup of linguini or a cup of zucchini noodles? A cup of white rice, or a cup of a whole grain rice that's actually good for you? A peice of white, starchy bread with 150 calories,or a peice of grainy whole wheat bread with 80 calories? All that stuff adds up the further out from surgery we are and causes weight gain. I'm choosing to eat more deliberately, both for my health and for ensuring I'm maintaining my weight. I take pleasure now in being able to run a couple miles and fit into size 6 jeans, not just food. I'm not perfect, but I know if I stick to that 90-95% of the time, an occasional english muffin or piece of cake isn't gonna kill me. That's what "moderation" means to me.

Today make a month since I had my Gastric bypass surgery. So happy to be here , to feel the weight come off and see it and to hear others say how good I'm looking. Though I told myself this surgery was not for me to look good , that's not why I did it, even though I do want that to come in play as well , but I did it to feel good, be healthy and I can say I am off diabetes meds, high blood pressure meds and my knees feel much , much , much better. Starting weight was 377lbs , pre-op weight 353 today 317 . September the 14 when I laid on that operating table I told myself this change is for you. Don't do it for nobody else but for you.

gossamer818 reacted to blizair09 in No longer answering these questions:
I read and comment on frequent-flyer forum (Flyertalk) since I travel so much for work. On there (at least on the Delta forum), people are direct verging on rude telling people to use the search feature when they ask routine questions or start threads with topics that have been discussed and discussed and discussed. While I do find the way some people act on there off-putting sometimes, you don't see nearly as many of the same old thread topics on there like you do on here.
I have only been around here for a short time, but even in that time, I have developed similar feelings to those that have been expressed in this thread. For me, it isn't as much the posting about things that you could find through a simple search, it is more about the sheer unprepared nature of SO many people who have had (or will be having) this surgery. I get that I am a bit of a "bariatric goody-two-shoes." I am going to do exactly what my doctor and his staff have told me to because I am going to be successful and healthy and no food or drink is worth more to me than that. I also get that everyone doesn't have that much drive in them, and I also get that food addiction is real, scary, and daunting. But come on, all of these posts about "when I can have XYZ?" or talking about "cheating" on pre-op diets or post-op diets signals really quick that A LOT of people on this forum are ill-prepared to embrace this life change or never really intended to change in the first place. And they will be the very people later on who say this doesn't work.
Yes, people need a place to vent, and yes, people need to be treated with compassion, but they also need a kick in the ass sometimes and a serious reality check. Thankfully, we have some bad-ass vets like LipstickLady and Bufflehead (among others) who always keep it real.

I was just approved in 1 day, for surgery!!! Love Tricare Prime - South! I go next week for my pre-op class and get my surgery date. I will be having surgery within the next 4 weeks. I had an EGD on Friday, where I had to have my CO2 checked and an EKG. I have an irregular heartbeat and my body doesn't eliminate CO2 like it is supposed to. Two more reasons why I need this weight off for GOOD! I'm so stinkin excited I just can't stand it! WHOO HOO!!!!!

gossamer818 reacted to Kindle in sugar free? i spent the past year getting off of aspertame?!
I have not ever had aspartame since surgery. Or pretty much any other artificial sweetener for that matter. (With the exception of Muscle Milk and Premier Proteins which contain sucralose, but my other Protein powders use stevia) No sugar free popscicles, no sugar free Jello, no sugar free pudding, no crystal light, etc. there's no rule that you have to eat that crap. There's plenty of products out there that use stevia and/or erythritol as sweeteners and I they didn't cause the pain that artificial sweeteners did.
I made Popsicles from Protein shakes. I drank a lot of Decaf herbal tea, both hot and iced. Sweet leaf Water enhancers use stevia. Bai5 and Pact use stevia and erythritol. I use regular Torani syrups instead of sugar free. Diluted Regular sports drinks and fruit juice instead of zero cal drinks. And when I want to manually sweeten something I use real sugar, honey, stevia or Monk Fruit. I'd rather have the extra calories than the yucky flavor of the artificial stuff.
