You have to get used to a new normal. I am excited when a real meal is about 1/2 cup of food or so. I eat 5 or 7 times a day -- a portion that used to be far less than a snack.< br />
Eating great food for fuel instead of for fun and enjoyment is definitely a mind screw. It doesn't mean you can't enjoy it, you just have to learn to appreciate and savor a new portion size.

I have lost 144 pounds in 9.5 months with no exercise! I know I should start but damn I hate it. I really am going to start using my elliptical! Really I am! It's going to happen!

Mines on the 16th and I start my 2 week pretty op diet on Sunday. I feel very excited but SO anxious. I've list 17 lb in 6 months and it has been hard going but I wanted a good start before surgery. Then this week I have put on 5 lbs due to snacking so I'm on a bit of a downer now as to how bad the pre op diet will be. I think I am motivated enough to stick to it but I fear it will be so hard to get through. I know this will be my new beginning but I feel so cross with myself that I let myself come to this obese stage having been a very slim teenager . I'm 55 so I know this is my last chance really. Roll on November when this waiting anxiety is over! Good luck to you all and I look forward to this time next year when we can post about our new lives x

My plan allowed for anything that was the consistency of a thick shake on discharge from hospital - any food could be blended to make it that consistency. Then at week 3 I moved to puree food - again anything that could be pureed. Week 4 I was able to eat anything as long as it was soft cooked and week 5 I was allowed a full diet. That is not to say my stomach allowed it, just that my surgeon and dietician did.
I am not at 3 1/2 months post surgery ... and most foods are still an experiment. What I could eat yesterday isn't necessarily what I can eat today. The only things that I can consistently eat with no difficulty are fresh raw or steamed vegetables ... and some fruits. I seem to live on salads these days.

My plan allowed mashed potatoes at week 3. Though I generally have avoided carbs. My first non purée was 2 poached eggs really runny. Was amazing!

Oh thanks, that was an older one, here is a recent one from last month when I hit my one year anniversary. In the blue I was at nearly my heaviest weight, I had lost a bit prior to surgery. Then on the right was at one year out.

I had a follow up appointment with my surgeon this week, 7 months post-op. He told me I'm doing fantastic, should lose about 15 more lbs, and then, looking me dead in the eye and stated, "damn, I did a good job!"
He did, and I did too! I'm in shock daily at how for I've come this year. My head hasn't caught up yet though, and most days I still feel fat, despite what i see in the mirror. I'm OK with that though, because gives me the motivation to keep making good choices and keeps me from being complacent.
My husband and I went out last night to Celebrate our anniversary and we took a picture together (the one on the right, cropped him out for privacy). I just keep staring at it, I can't believe it's me, what I have dreamed of accomplishing all of my life.
Anyway, no real point to this post, other than I feel good, I feel happy, and I just wanted to share that damn, we're all doing a good job!

Today I officially hit my 1/2 way to goal weight-loss. 53lbs down 53lbs to go....that will put me in the high end of the healthy BMI range. It isn't about the scale number and it isn't about a pant size (although those are bonuses on my journey to a healthy BMI).
Just thought I would share my excitement.

@@nikko9599 the slimies are when your mouth and throat start producing tons of clear slimey liquid like you might do right before you throw up -- but instead of throwing up, you just keep producing slimey Fluid. Enough to hack mouthfuls and mouthfuls and gobs and gobs into the nearest toilet. You will also likely feel extremely nauseated, weak, and completely exhausted. It's hard to describe but when it happens to you, you know something is completely wrong and you feel miserable. People tend to get the slimies if they eat too much, too fast, or the wrong texture of food. I only got them twice -- once when I overate the yogurt I mentioned and another time when I stupidly took a mineral supplement pill on an empty stomach. Believe me, when/if it happens to you, you will never want it again!

Refried Beans with melted cheese, avocado (mild salsa over them sometimes) apple sauce, I found a ricotta bake on line for patients. I would wait toward the end of your purée phase and you stomach may need a little more time to learn to digest. Cream Soups.

I had to have multiple endoscopies over the past few years owing to a really screwed up pre-surgery condition with my esophagus (hernia, stricture, etc). It's no big deal -- they will sedate you to the point you don't remember anything. (Edited to add: By no big deal, I mean it's not painful. It may be a little irritating at first, but like I said, you won't remember it after.)

drop him and run.... run as fast as you can. Trust in the fact that if he can't support you now... he won't support you in the future.
He doesn't want you to get surgery because of his insecurities..... trust this.... I know. Im not saying that you don't have confidence now.... but wait till you start shedding pounds....
My husband made these too me...... you are too skinny... you look like a bag of bones.... i liked your face when it was full, it didn't show the winkles like it does now.... I loved you more when you were fat..... your losing weight was the worst thing that happen to our marriage.... and on and on and on. and we were/still married for 25 years.
don't invest any more time in someone that can't support your choices to get healthy and happy.

nikko9599 reacted to BobScott in My Story surgery on Feb 23rd 2016, post op 381, today 219.
I have not taken the time to share my story, as a matter of fact I have still not changed my Facebook pictures, or the ones of me at work. food. I believe I had an actual addiction to food, the same as an addict, I didn't see it as an issue... But now I realize that I had a problem.
I eat to live now, instead of living to eat. The surgery helped by taking away the cravings, but I worry that if I reintroduce things like breads, fried foods, and other crap, I will develop the addiction again, just as if an alcoholic was to just have " 1 drink". It is a disease, with horrible side effects including low self confidence, depression, and humiliation.
I have made it my mission to find healthy foods, and replace all of my old favs, with healthy... And what I call, feel good foods. An FG food is one that I can eat comfortably, and they just basically feel good. for me, my list of items that I probably have a little of everyday would include... Chobani Flips. (190-210 cal, 12 gram protein)... These are my go to, if I haven't eaten in a while and am hungry, I can put this down a bit faster, and the size is pretty perfect for a meal. Love them all! Pickles- (0-5 cals) I love the spicy pickles, but I can eat them all. Pickles have become a regular snack in my life. Spears, slices, whatever, they all rock! Soup, soup, and more soup!!! My souls have been a huge part of my success. I make a huge crock of soup and it lasts me weeks. You can freeze some, but always have some in the fridge ready to microwave. I make a few varieties, but the basis is always the same. chicken broth base, cut with Water. Chicken or Cod fish, yep... I said fish! My family hates the smell of my "fish soup" but I loved it! However if you are not a big fish can just go with chicken. Vegetables- carrots, onions, mushrooms, kale, spinach, and even Brussels sprouts... Whatever you like and then I would spice it up with Cayenne and red pepper flakes, I even used Sriracha at times. This soup has been a staple for me since the 3rd month post, and I still make a lot here and there now. It was just great for me to grab a coffee cup, fill it, microwave it, and enjoy it.
I pushed myself to walk, and then I started "1 TED" lol. That means 1 thing every day. If it was parking in the back of the parking lot when at a store, or walking down the street and back when going to pick up the mail, I would just push to do 1 thing, which then would keep except use in the front of my mind.
Get an Apple Watch or Fitbit, make goals and hit them! What I learned is that we are capable of so much! When you are used to walking around with an additional 100 plus, your body has been working out for a long time. Now when the weight is gone, you still have that strong frame. Put it to work! I made some new friends that are athletic, I try and play Pickleball ( the game kicks ass, combo of tennis, volleyball, & ping pong) instead of cardio... I want to transition to a healthy lifestyle, not a 30 minute gym session that I won't be looking forward to.
Think of your weight loss as a super power, but only if you stick to the guidelines. This works for me, and I believe it to be a super power... Let me explain.
Since the weight loss, the world has been easier for me. I can go to an amusement park and get on the rides. I can fly on a plane and not need an extension. I can walk into a crowded bar and not start sweating my ass off! I can buy clothes at a normal store, and with actual brand names on them. I can tie my damn shoes, and without holding my breathe! I can sit in any chair, and not just the ones without sides... I can even sit in the plastic ones.
Woman treat me so differently! I am no longer just the funny guy... Even though I haven't changed! Life has just become much easier, much better, and much healthier, and I never want to go back, so I will continue to treat it as an addiction and will not look to be able to re introduce "everything" back into my eating habits, but instead I will work to find better foods. The nice thing about eating less, is that you can afford to buy smaller portions allowing for better quality foods. Take advantage of that! I always have almonds in the house, and I love veggie chips, especially the jalepeno, but now I grab a handful and walk away... If I want another handful, I will go get it at 30 cals, per handful, but I am going to force myself to get up and walk to the kitchen to get a handful
I feel so lucky to have had this surgery, and if I can help you in anyway let me know! I hope you have found this helpful, I know that writing it has helped me... So thanks!
