Libbyloses got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Over 60 and having the sleeve
Hi ginnylee. I am new to group. 61 years old. Almost finished completing pre-op tests. No date yet. I have many reservations about doing the surgery. These are related to potential side effects. Nausea, diarrhea, staple issues, not being able to follow the diet. I am taking it one step at a time and am optimistic that things will work out.

Libbyloses reacted to Christinamo7 in I'm getting violent without caffeine
I weaned to Decaf in the couple of weeks before surgery (I know. crazy but at least I kept the comfort of the habit) and then as soon as I was allowed regular coffee (4 weeks in my case) I was back on the full juice. During my liquid diet post op I had decaf in my vanilla Protein shake sometimes to flavor it up. I used to take mine with half and half and sugar. do NOT give me any fake creamer. but I am now on 2/3 fairlife milk 1/3 half and half. half a cup in my 12 ounce coffee mug and stevia most of the time. my Daddy called it my baby coffee because he always took his dark, rich and black.
*edited to clarify - half a cup of the milk combo, not half the coffee mug.

On Monday I saw my psychiatrist and he really pressured me to investigate a non-surgical option. Really didn't listen to how I came to this decision and why. The whole experience left me deflated.
Today I saw my PCP and it was a completely different experience. She was so happy for me. She said she knows how hard I work to keep my diabetes under tight control and that with my other health issues this is a very sound decision. She said I don't make excuses and work hard and she knows I have what it takes to be successful.
I have been smiling ever since.

I'm actually kinda thinking about picking out a couple of cute wigs. My hair is quite short and any Hair loss is bound to be noticeable. I don't have my surgery date yet, but I'm going to start looking around now.

Yes I used Dr. Umbach and he and his entire team are fantastic. Michelle the Nutritionist is an amazing resource who is easy to communicate with via email or phone...always there for me with any questions I have...even months after surgery.
The entire experience there was easy and they make you feel comfortable the whole time. I was a cash patient, so I didn't have to deal with insurance requirements, and was able to use their state-of-the-art, brand new surgical center instead of dealing with a hospital. Went in at 7 am to prep (was first surgery of that day) and was on my home by noon. I've lost over 100 pounds so far and I am feeling great.

Today marks my one year anniversary!
One year ago I made the decision to save my life. I believe I may have done that
It's been a quick and a much successful year - in my opinion HAHA
    Surgery date Sept 21 2015
    Starting weight 273.4
Current weight 157.0 (I was down to 153.6 a couple of weeks ago but must've been eating too much salt lately; hence the slight increase LOL)
Goal weight 150 - which I will succeed here shortly!
Thanks for all of your support on this website!
Now to get to goal and live happily ever after!!

I have been strongly considering gastric sleeve surgery for the last 6 months or so. My husband is completely against it and says no. I've tried to explain to him the pros but he won't budge. Any advise on getting him to be okay with it? Our insurance is great and would most likely cover, that's not an issue.

Ok; I get it. Friends who have always been on the weight loss roller coaster with you, tried every fad diet, every new exercise routine, and had moderate success with you at times... they don't really like you taking this new step, do they? Sigh...I guess that means someone you've always counted on to be a cheerleader will instead be judgmental and say stupid things about this being the "easy" way even though there isn't anything easy about it!!
I guess you can't make everyone happy...

Libbyloses reacted to reree6898 in A Year Already....My Story (w/Pictures)
Today marks one year since I had my sleeve done. This year has really just gone by so quickly and my life has changed so much in the last year. A year ago today I was 319 lbs and wearing a size 26/28 in pants. I didn't have any real medical issues yet but I knew it was just a matter of time before they would start. I was getting to be on the border of high blood pressure and I knew that I would also likely end up diabetic within a few years if things didn't change. My joints were hurting all the time and my back would spasm with pain. I had thought about having surgery for a long time but prior insurance wouldn't cover it and I had no way to pay out of pocket for it. I changed jobs a few years ago and found that it would be covered finally. I saw my surgeon for the first time in July of 2015 and was sleeved September 28th, 2015.
In this year I have lost 157lbs and as of this morning weigh 162lbs and wear a size 10/12!!!! I have had many other changes and challenges this year that have tried to sabotage my success but through it all I have had to keep reminding myself that I have to do this for me and that I have to keep doing what I know is right and will carry me through and keep me healthy.
    My stats are as follows:
    Heaviest weight ever: 376lbs
    Surgery weight: 319lbs
    Current weight: 162lbs

    we've been waiting for you!!
always room for one more cutie
the sleeve was developed many years ago (100+?)
it was used to help OP with stomach cancer
after a while, docs were realizing people were losing lots of weight
then they used/invented the sleeve for WLS
i don't know exactly how many years sleeve has been around for WLS?
    15+ years?? "maybe" longer
    i was sleeved 12/15/11
i am couple months shy of 5 years PO
    4 years GOAL
there ARE others i see post on the board that are more than 5 years PO
OP don't show up that often
    but they DO exist
many VETS here that are 1-3 years PO
good luck with finishing jumping the hoops of insurance
hope DOS is sooner than later
    speedy recovery

I'm 62 and just had my 8/8/16. Just saw my surgeon today and everything is just fine. I've lost 43 pds since starting journey first of May.
The big shocker to me today was he told me when he got back the pathologhy report, it seem I had a cancerous tumor that was self contain in the stomach part they took out. He then stated had I not had the surgery I would have never know about this until too late. I truly feel blessed for this surgery.

I'm 65 and just had my nine month surgiversary. I've lost 98 pounds, all my bloodwork was normal. I exercise at the Y twice a week and can eat anything with no problem. I avoid bread and Pasta most of the time but don't feel like I'm on a diet. I just have a new way of eating and eat so much less. I'm very happy and healthy.
