LifeRejuvenated reacted to veryblessed in Update: spouse left 4 days after surgery.
Hi, wanted to Thank all those back after I had my sleeve surgery on 09/19/16 & 09/23/16 my husband left me. The we'll wishes really got me through some had times cause would read them when I needed a boost. I originally thought he left due to a drug issue. I thought we would work out if he got help but didn't work out that way. I found out by doing some investing that over our last 3 1/2 years of part-time nursing school -he cheated on me while in class at night after working full time, & on clinical weekends with multiple women. I really struggled after finding this out for awhile with getting Vitamins every day, enough Water, but did Protein Drinks for Breakfast & still do for Protein amount. I got through things & doing so much better. I found out Friday also that I will be graduating nursing school. I work with claims dept for the hospital I had surgery at now. I hoping that after I pass my state exam I when take in few months I can get,a job on the baratric floor for surgery patients. I would love that even more then anything. I am writing this update so if anybody else loses their spouse after surgery -keep chin up because it will get better. Sleeve surgery on 09/19 was one of the best decision of my life. I filed for divorce & he signed papers last week, graduating nursing school from long part-time road, & am down around 50 pounds since surgery. I feel better then I have in such a long time -it is amazing how surgery can change your life for the better. I enjoy exercising, walking dogs & energy level is so much higher now. Plus hearing how well you look from others is huge boost to everyone. I hope nobody ever has to go through what I went through, but if anything hard happens in your life post surgery hang in there. Hang in there, keep chin up because trust me your life & overall health will get better & what a blessing in the changes. I do feel very, very blessed in my life again.

    Hello everyone!
I've been a bigger person for most of my life and I've tried nearly every diet on the market. I was 450 lbs when I got married and my wife was roughly 350 lbs. She eventually had gastric sleeve surgery and we divorced so she could start "her whole new life".
I, on the other hand, fell into a deep depression, became a recluse, and my weight exploded up to 660 lbs as I was heartbroken and emotionally eating myself to death. I was in so much physical pain I couldn't stand for more than 5 minutes.
Finally 3 years ago I started doing a low carb/high Protein diet, and 5 minute walks which eventually increased to over an hour.
Now my weight is down to 446 lbs. I feel a LOT better but I been struggling to lose more weight as I have been stuck between 446 and 470 lbs for close to a year.
My doctor recommended weight loss surgery and I'm now scheduled to be sleeved on December 14. Yay!
I must say I'm really enjoying reading so many awesome inspirational stories of everyone's success. I know Post-Op life will be a challenge but I'm only moving forward, and never looking back.
    Good luck to everyone!
Don't look back, turn the page, and let your next chapter begin!

LifeRejuvenated reacted to JupiterinVirgo in If you are scared, maybe my story can help.
When I was preparing to have my sleeve surgery, I spent a lot of time on this forum. I found most of the people here to be very helpful. Even though there's every kind of personality here, we all have one thing in common: we wanted to lose weight and be healthier.
Approaching any surgery is scary. There are real risks, and real rewards when all goes well.
I have struggled with weight my whole life. Total sugar junkie. Used food to replace every unmet need I had, to repress every emotion for which I was unprepared to deal.
I gained and lost hundreds of pounds over the course of my life. Hundreds.
When my husband died eight years ago it broke me. I shattered, and it took me almost a decade to put myself back together. During that time, I lost everything: my beloved, my home, my income, even my sense of self. And I spent the next eight years eating to fill this giant empty void inside my being where someone who I thought of as the love of my life used to be.
I ballooned up bigger than I had ever been, surpassing my previous high weight and moving into the 320s.
I avoided social situations, and only left the house when necessary. I was afraid I would have to ask for a stronger chair when invited to sit down for dinner at somebody's home. I was afraid that I would need to sit down every 20 or 30 steps during a leisurely stroll through the mall with a friend. My body ached; sometimes the pain was so bad that I could scarcely move-even sitting still was painful.
    Life had become extremely small.
Deciding to get the surgery was surprisingly easy, but getting through the approval process and going through with the surgery summoned up terror in me that had been there since my first surgery when I was three years old.
I thought it would be a miracle if I were able to get the surgery, simply because my trauma was so severe for so many years that it seemed like an impossible feat to put myself in the hands of medical professionals, who I have never trusted all my life.
With lots of support from my mother, my sister who had already had the surgery, and my therapist, I was able to get the sleeve.
    And it changed my life!
I also decided that I was going to make up for lost time now that I was going to be able to physically get around again. I sold all my stuff, ditched my apartment, bought an RV and moved in! And it's wonderful! I could not have fit in here, nor could I do the things necessary when living in an RV, at my previous weight.
This surgery has allowed me an opportunity for a whole new lease on life. I am officially one year postop, and I am down about 130 pounds, with another 30 to go. It's amazing the difference a single year can make!
If you know that this is right for you, and the only thing giving you pause is fear that is not coming from your true intuition: there are many people on these forums who feel that this surgery has saved our lives.
I am one of those people. Here is a before and present a photo of me, in a year, this could be you!

I have been dragging my feet on posting an introduction, so I apologize!
My name is CC and I'm 38 female in Central Texas.
I have committed to VSG surgery for December 15, 2016.
I have always been bigger but not always overweight. I allowed people to tell me I was "too big" and I didn't protect my self esteem.
I became complacent and lazy, and failed to address issues that led to being greatly overweight as I got older.
The truth is I will always be big, but I desire to no longer be morbidly obese. I vow to never be over 400 lbs again, and I know there are others betting the challenge of higher #s in being overweight.
Let me share some basic stats:
    Highest recorded weight:427 lbs
Weight at 1st VSG consultation appmt: 412 lbs
Current weight (as of 11/29/16) 388 lbs
Height 6'4" (not an error, I am a very tall woman).
My goal weight is 225 lbs.
My surgery date is December 15th, 2016 for VSG.
I know that I have a unique figure / stature, but I welcome connecting and sharing this special part of my journey with kindred spirits, no matter what your personal stats or background might be.

I am so happy today I was sleeved this time last year on this day at 387 pounds and felt like I was headed to my death bed if I didn't make some changes. This is by far the best decision I have ever made for myself. I hit onederland (199) today as well and have surpassed all of my surgeons expectations. That is a total weight loss of 188 pounds and from a size 32 to a 14 in 1 year never thought I would see the scale for myself under 200 again. I feel great I exercise everyday and I am not dying of starvation! LOL! The best part is I think for the 1st time in my adult life I am truly happy and not just hiding behind a smile.

Have to work all night but I woke up this morning to weigh. Down 100 lbs!!
Eight years ago my wife and I were in Jamaica for our honeymoon. I had a button up shirt on over my t-shirt and couldn't button it up. The one button I did was holding on for dear life. I put that shirt on the other day and had room left in it.

I'm not where I want to be but the progression there has definitely been enjoyable even when my weight stalled. TODAY IS MY SURGIVERSARY!!! 97lbs lost!well wow what can I say? It's been quite a journey! The one thing I think i was unprepared for was the emotional/mental piece. It's not natural to see yourself in a state (at a weight/size) you've never been and then know how to deal with people's new reaction to you. I've been smaller before but never this small and it's a whole new world! Sleevers... What was it like? Well from surgery to liquid diets to pretty much seven months of working out five days a week. Low carb low sugar high fat high Protein diet to now. It wasn't easy. You can't just have surgery and sit around expecting to lose weight. You gotta work!! I reached "goal" bout seven months out. But you'll find your goal quickly changes as you realize you can do more. So work your ass off and don't give up! What's next? Toning this old body lol. Still work to be done.
    Starting weight 232
    Goal 180, 160, 145
    Current weight 135
    Sizes 20 to 5

LifeRejuvenated reacted to dma2013 in Re-committed to the process
So, I have had quite an adventure since having my surgery almost 4 years ago. In addition to living with lupus and copd, I needed a hysterectomy and had complications from it. My husband was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago and struggled for a bit but is better now. My 9 year old son required what would thought would be a simple hand surgery but of course it was not! Needless to say things have been a bit crazy and very very busy!
Though I have stayed on track with my food choices I have been really bad at remembering to eat and I am not getting enough Protein or Water. My exercise has been intermittent when I find the time.
So now, things are calmer but I have put on 15 pounds, considering I never got to my goal weight this is not good.
I have decided it's time for me and time to do this! This week I will do 5 small (measured) meals a day and get my protein in. I also will do better with my water! I am considering doing 2 weeks on liquids but I'm not sure if I should do I thought I'd start with the 5 little meals.
I will also start trying to exercise each day if only for a short time. I am determined to get this 15 pounds off and eventually reach my goal weight!
This board has served as a good support to me in the past so I thought I'd use it again! I hope to make some virtual friends so we can help each other!
