thank you @! Yes, that's what I'm focusing on...the end result. I've already awakened once "sleeveless" because the surgeon felt my scar tissue was too excessive to get around. He told me to wait a year or two for new techniques to become available. I was beyond devastated!
So, this go round will be by the "book" to the best of my ability...
Thanks for the good wishes. Heading to get my Protein Shake now

When I had my surgery I only told my significant other and 2 close friends (who had the surgery), why? Because this was a very personal decision and I needed to get a grasp of it on my own. I did not feel the need to explain my decision or to hear others opinions when their opinion and $2 can get me a cup of coffee. I joined this site and it helped me speak more freely about it. I am almost 2 years out and about 6 months in I told my family and a year in I was more open about it. Now I speak freely but its a work in progress. Others tell right away, and that's ok, again its a personal decision but the support you should really need is from your family and groups like this who know what its like. Everyone else can go fly kites, because everyone will have their own opinions, insecurities and they will push them on you. Push that aside and push through. I do not know your medical condition but let me tell you it will improve, your life will improve and at the end if you follow the Doctors orders you will be amazed at the life change. Then people will be eager to know what you did and how. Until then, focus on you. Love and prayers your way, you will be just fine.

On the loser's bench now! Had my surgery on the 3rd. Surgery went fine, no complications. Now I'm just dealing with lots of gas pain, some fatigue and absolutely zero desire to consume anything. I'm scooching over to make room for everyone yet to follow! Best of luck to you all!

I had gone to a friend's get together and I made the cake (do custom cakes as a hobby) it was a boob cake for our friend who is in Stage 4 of cancer.Everyone brought everything to dine on and all of my faves but I unbelievably just drank my Water and my Boost Diabetic...not even a bite of anything. I just kept telling myself that if I don't follow liquid diet to a tee than maybe liver won't shrink enough and I would be turned down for surgery. Didn't want to chance that and day of my surgery (09/28) and was weighed, I was already down 20 lbs.
Hang in there and don't give a rat's ass as to what others may say. Leave negative persons behind.
    Much luck

You can do this! I'm on day 10 of my pre op diet and if I can get through this without a "cheat", you sure can! I also a revision patient.
Just keep reminding yourself that it's not worth it.
You want to set yourself up for success and you don't succeed if you start out by finding ways to sneak around the rules. It hasn't been easy, but when my stomach is growling, I remember why I am doing it. Drinking lots of extra fluids help fool an empty stomach too.
    Good luck!

That is exactly what that means! I have BCBSIL as well and they changed the policy on the exact same month I finished my 6 month supervised visit How ironic, I thought. Looking back, I'm glad I had extra time to think about things and practice new eating habits, etc.

Thank you all for posting you're experiences so far! It's nice to see how things may go, although we are all a little different in our journeys. I've waited over a year for this to happen and have had doubts along the way but reading experiences and hearing good stories about how things have changed has made me stick with it. Today's my surgery eve, I was lucky- only one day clear liquid diet which is today, tomorrow I head out to the hospital. I'm nervous and hopeful I'm making the right decision but it has helped to read what you early October-ers have faced so far

It's so tempting to try and skip ahead. I feel you. The hospital made me a banana milkshake the second day after my surgery. It was the best thing I've ever tasted. I was sleeved 2 days before you and I've been drinking shakes, thin Soups, yoghurt etc since day 2. Had no problems. I don't know what I'd do having to be on Clear Liquids for so long, so you're doing awesome.
I've lost 8 pounds since surgery (I'm 6 days post op).

Stay strong!!! If you can get thru this - you'll have an easier time post-op! Today has been rough. I still haven't cheated but I'm hungry and grumpy. Had to go to a family party - tons of yummy food (antipasto, heirloom tomatoes, egg salad, chicken salad, cole slaw) and I sipped my shake and had some broth. Day 6 done! 8 more days to go - we've got this!

Also the gas pain we all are describing really is intestinal gas pain it the CO2 used to inflate our abdomin. They get most of it out but can't get it all. The gas bubbles get up against our diaphragm which as the I believe the C4 nerve Phrenic nerve that also goes to our left shoulder. So the pain you have there is really referred pain. Moving And walking will help. I also found that a warm moist compress helped some. It increases blood flow so more absorption. Gas pain is way worse then surgical IMO..... Keep going gang

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.
Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your Protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein shakes. After surgery, food will not be the center of your life anymore. You may even lose hunger, which is what happened to me after surgery. The effect is not permanent but lasted for over a year. It was not hard losing weight when hunger was not continually gnawing at your bones. So in preparing for RNY surgery realize that your taste buds may change and this may affect your ability to consume the important elements (fluids, protein, and vitamins). The most important advise I can give you is be willing to experiment after surgery to meet those daily goals and don't stress over the food.
