allies journey reacted to OzCaz in I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
“Was the bypass harder to get used to? I also am revising from the sleeve because of a hiatal hernia and terrible acid reflux.“
That is the reason I got it done. And also as my sleeve was not stopping food quantities, but mostly because of the hernia/reflux issue.
Bit early to say how it is going. I am only just over a week out of surgery and still on liquid/mushies. Since I went on the pre-operation diet, I’ve lost over 6 kgs (about 13.5 lbs). I guess I won’t know until I can start eating normal food.
Trying to keep the Protein up at the moment of course.

I have friends as a couple.. both had it done, husband and wife and they are both doing great. In over a years time he has lost over 150 lbs and she has lost 80 lbs. No issues. They eat the foods they liked before ….just can't do allot of it due to pouch size.. they of course do minimal grease and minimal sugars.

Surgery was February 4th, 2019 and I’ve lost 62 lbs in all. I had to do the liver shrinking diet and lost 12 lbs in 2 weeks prior... starting weight before liver shrinking diet was 240 at 5 , 4” had RNY because of hernia and awful acid reflux.. been to counseling and following plan like a trooper , just worried that I am able to fill up that little pouch.. doesn’t mean I will, I just feel no discomfort and was expecting more..nice to feel so good though, and I am determined to make this work.. reminding myself the surgery was a TOOL.. a tool I must use... no miracle , well, maybe I can make my own miracle... NO!!! I WILL make my own miracle... this is an excellent place for support .

Great! It really helps you cut out the carbs. And I do feel like it's helping I feel a little more restricted. And the bonus is I've lost 6 lb since Monday.

allies journey got a reaction from Lady B 925 in Revision Lapband to RNY
It's strange how different people react differently. One lady said she had no problems, didn't use any pain medication and went back to work in 4 days.
Everyone is different and some people have a higher tolerance for pain (thankfully I am one of those people).
Maybe make some easy to throw in crockpot meals to make things easier for you during the first couple of weeks.
That's my plan.

New to this forum, just found it today.
Had my RNY on May 7th.
Luckily I was not required to do pre op liquids, and ate normally up until the night before surgery (I know each hospital and doctor is different). Was only held overnight and was home on May 8th. Never took a pain pill after the 9th. Started puree'd diet (following dieticians guidelines) on day 6 and doing well on it.

I have not had my RNY revision surgery yet but if I were you I'd see if you can get someone as a standby in case you need anything.
I have seen ppl on here that did great and a few that needed backup.
Just to be safe keep a phone nearby and ppl in case you need them.
Keep phone number s handy.
Good luck with your surgery and keep updating your progress.

Thank you! I'm in my hospital room now. Surgery went well and I actually feel really good. Little bit of pain here and there but the nurses here are great about keeping me medicated lol

allies journey reacted to Princesswife in I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
I’ll be 54 in June
I had my RNY a week ago today! I feel great! Everything I feared was for nothing. I was prepared for the worst, but got the best. So angry at myself for not doing this sooner.
I’m type 2 diabetic. Was on a pump. Came home without the pump, BP meds at 1/2, and no other diabetes meds or cholesterol meds!!

allies journey reacted to CindeeAT in I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
There is absolutely nothing wrong. Stalls are normal and discouraging! Hang in there! I'm 52 and had a RNY revision from a sleeve. My loss is definitely slower than when I had the sleeve. My doc says that age and being a revision definitely plays a part in seeing slower weight loss. It WILL come off if you follow your plan.
I'm 52 years
RNY revision on March 12 nearly 8 weeks out
I stalled for a full 2.5 weeks starting on week 2! I cried daily after the first week! Doc said that it was because I was starving at only 300 calories per day and that the loss would start when I was able to add more foods. It did...my loss is slow and steady and I only weigh once per week.
Surgery weight: 235
Current weight: 210

I was 59 when I had bypass surgery; this was a little over 4 years ago. I'm down approx 150-160 lbs from a high of 390. Staying steady -- :O)

Your doing great. Any pound is a great loss remember none of us got where we are overnight.
Even if you lose 2 lbs a week in a year that's 104 lbs.lost.Look at the big picture.

Wow that is awesome news. Sounds like you are doing a great job.
Thanks for sharing your experience with me.
I realize that everyone's surgery and experience is different but knowing what others have been through really does help.
When I had the sleeve I had absolutely no problems at all and some people have a really hard time.
I have a very high tolerance for pain thankfully.
Please keep me posted on your journey and good luck.
I had a EGD WITH BRAVO test this past Tuesday and am hoping it is going to be enough for the insurances to get approval for the RNY revision surgery and that it won't take too long to be scheduled for the surgery.
Thanks again,
Allie
