It took me longer than I thought but I couldn't be more excited!! 2 months and 3 weeks post op and I've hit the ONEderland! Yayayayayya! Sorry just felt the need to shout it from the roof top. I've met many mini goals in the past couple months but this was my first large goal. Actually 3 large goals in one day! 50lbs down, 50 to go. I'm halfway to my ultimate goal and first time below 200 for about 5 years

Hi everyone! I've recently been cleared for surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) and arranged a date of 26th September. Very excited! I'm 31, have a BMI of 35, and single. I've tried (and failed) to lose weight for the past 16 years. Same story as everyone else - I lose 20 lbs and put 30 back on.
I've not told anyone about the surgery, and I don't plan to. I just think that people will think I'm taking the easy way out. No one else in my family has any weight issues, and I know they just think I'm lazy for being so fat. I'm definitely going ahead with the surgery, but wanted to know if anyone else had done it without telling anyone? I just can't be bothered with them judging me!

I am so happy today I was sleeved this time last year on this day at 387 pounds and felt like I was headed to my death bed if I didn't make some changes. This is by far the best decision I have ever made for myself. I hit onederland (199) today as well and have surpassed all of my surgeons expectations. That is a total weight loss of 188 pounds and from a size 32 to a 14 in 1 year never thought I would see the scale for myself under 200 again. I feel great I exercise everyday and I am not dying of starvation! LOL! The best part is I think for the 1st time in my adult life I am truly happy and not just hiding behind a smile.

I'm on my 7th day of thin liquids and I'm hungry. I'm drinking 70 oz of Water in addition to the required food.... 7 more days of thin liquids almost seems unbearable

This is great advice. I knew I was supposed to chew slow but honestly didn't realize just how slow I needed to chew. I thought I was eating puréed salmon slow but didn't realize slow means like literally snails pace, at least at first. Like at least a few/several minutes of chewing for newbies. It means you have to pay extreme attention to everything that goes in your mouth. I also started only eating with teaspoons or baby spoons to make sure I'm limiting my bite size appropriately.

When I eat something my tummy doesn't like, one of three things happen:

    I vomit.
    I dump.
I am extremely uncomfortable for a few hours.

What my stomach doesn't like changes from day to day, even at 3.5 years out, so my rule is always to eat slow, chew well, and eat really small meals 5 or 6 times a day.

Newbie here and super sad to see this thread. I hope this is Not the norm. Name calling has no place on a forum like this. I believe, if you are going to respond to someone's post take a minute to really read your post before sending. Some things get lost in translation and definitely via social media. Please, there is never a time for using words like idiot, idiotic, dumb...etc. let's be better. Steps off podium...

There is one person on this board who said they had it. I had my sleeve on Halloween, 4 incisions. The incisions are nothing, they don't hurt at all, people worry way too much about them. Overall the entire surgery was not very painful, I mean I had drugs for the pain in the hospital and continued them for a few days at home (bedtime only) but less then a week post surgery I didn't need anything.
I don't understand how single incision would be less painful, what they do on the inside (remove most of your stomach and close it with a line of staples!) is exactly the same.
I had my gallbladder out many years ago and also had 4 tiny incisions. The scars are barely visible, tiny white lines. People worry too much about scars also. Are you a bikini model
I guess if all other things are the same go with single incision if you want. But I certainly would not drive farther or pay more or anything like that to have it. I can't see that the benefits would be worth it, but YMMV.

Not sure about coconut oil, it wasn't popular 16 years ago and the lady who told me about it was in her 60's. You could give it a try and let us know.My GP was told olive oil as well but not lemon juice. The olive oil takes the lemon juice straight to the gall bladder like on a slippery slide. The lemon juice breaks down the gallstones. I mixed mine together in a medicine cup. From first scan and diagnosis 7 stones the size of jaffas to surgery 6 months later, 7 stones as small as peppercorns. Sent from my SM-T350 using the BariatricPal App

Well i am super pale and short and i have one scar main scar that is pretty big and puckered but I believe it was due to allergic reaction to the glue used to seal them. My incisions became very inflamed and the largest one on my right side is not pretty at all.
But most people you can barely see it. Im only 3 weeks post op

The scars are nothing to worry about at all. I've had a total of 16 incisions over 3 surgeries, lap band placement, lap band removal and now my sleeve on the 1st November 2016. None of the incisions have ever been painful and the scars are barely noticeable, and I haven't even bothered to use a scar treatment, so if you were to use a Vitamin e oil or similar scar treatment I doubt you would really see them over time.

Two weeks out and my incisions (5) look great. I'd probably rather have a few more and make sure the surgeon can use all their tools. I don't see how it could be done with one incision especially since you need at least one instrument in each hand?? The scars are minimal...don't worry about them too much

Is there any one who has had SILS?
More so, interested in knowing if anyone over 40 BMI has had it done? I am considering this route because I am so afraid of not healing properly from any scarring. Also I read that it's less painful than that of the regular sleeve.
    Please let me know

Before I even went to the classes and consults, I spoke to my husband about it. He was very supportive. After I went through the months of process of classes, tests and insurance approval, I told my parents and my daughter. I know they would all be supportive.
I asked my parents not to tell extended family. I have some very judgmental aunts and cousins. All my cousins are very thin and fit. I can't wait to see them next year at the reunion, I am already imagining their reactions!
I told my boss as well, but none of my coworkers. My boss is very professional and I am assured she will not mention it to anyone. I told her so that she would be aware of my post op recovery needs.

    Great idea!
I'm new here, just logged on for the first time today.
I am 49 years old and mom to 11 kids. Five are adults are on their own, 6 still at home. The 5 youngest were all adopted internationally over the last 5 years. All 6 kids at home have Down syndrome. I have 5 grandkids. Two years ago I arrived home from Serbia with one of our newly adopted kids, and the next day went for my routine mammogram. I ended up being anything but routine, and I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I ended up having a bilateral mastectomy and going through chemo. I had 14 major surgeries in 20 months. In my spare time I ride my motorcycle, unfortunately it hasn't left the garage in two years. I was hoping this would be my year, but life is still in the way. I love to do crafty things, like clay sculpting and oil painting. I'm not very good, I just like doing it.
Chemo did a big number on my body, but through it all my weight has stayed pretty much the same. I've gone up a little, but nothing exciting. I just can't move anymore. I have chemo-induced arthritis through my entire body. But my cancer is estrogen fed, and fat holds/produces a small amount of estrogen when I don't what a single cell of it in my body! My oncologist wanted 60 lbs gone as soon as I could do that in a healthy way. Unfortunately the stress of being told I "have to" lose weight sent my scale the wrong direction. I just finished 6 months of the dietician visits my insurance requires, and received approval from the psychologist. Now I just need insurance approval and hope to be on the surgery schedule early November.
So who am I? I am am wife, mother, grandma, biker babe, breast cancer survivor, warrior b***h!

I'm scheduled for Oct 12! & Insurance Is paying for it. Does your surgeon have a Nut he recommends or is affiliated with his office? Of all the appointment s I had to do, the Nut is the one I'm sure I'll see again and again. The form of payment really should be irrelevant. the surgeon may have Nuts he deals with. It never hurts to ask.
(Lol I just read that and cracked myself up.)
