    Good article.
I lost 99 of my 227 pounds during the six month pre-op diet program. It set me on the right path, helped me to get to goal within one year post-op, and helped me to redefine my relationship with food before the surgery.
It was the best thing I did for myself.

Go after it. I am a 42yo gay man. Imagine how this kind of thing works in my world (which is often quite vain and superficial). I told my best friend from college (also gay, and also always a cute, fit guy) that I am having "his 20s in my 40s." He laughed and said "I have no doubt; enjoy it."
I'm having the time of my life, and I wish the same thing for you. It's amazing. Get out there; get noticed, and enjoy yourself!

I lost 100 pounds during my six month insurance-required pre-op diet program, so my surgeon didn't require a pre-op liquid diet from me. I started at a 53 BMI and was right at a 40 BMI on surgery day. I met my goal weight of 180 pounds at 1 year and 4 days post-op, and have been maintaining at 7-10 pounds below goal (23.5 BMI) for the past 5 months.

I'm not trying to be unkind, but why in the world would you drink sugary juice (I am assuming from the tone of your post that this is what you meant by juice) and eat potato chips when you have had not one but TWO weight loss surgeries?
At some point, you have to muster the grit and perseverance you need to be successful and rise to the occasion. Otherwise, all of this trauma to your body will be for nothing.
Are you working with a therapist who specializes in bariatric patients? It would probably be helpful. You HAVE to change your relationship with food and embrace the kind of eating that will make you successful (protein rich).
I wish you the best, but only you can make this happen. As you know, the surgery will not do it on its own...

blizair09 got a reaction from gbjourney6 in Time to start losing weight
When I started my six month insurance required pre-op diet program, I decided to jump in the deep end of the pool and get started right away. I followed a Keto way of eating and lost 100 pounds by the day of my surgery. It was the best thing I did for myself other than having the surgery.
I have continued to follow that way of eating for almost 2 years now (including through the food stages -- I had to do an extra week of liquids post-op because I wouldn't eat cream of wheat and oatmeal. Lol.) I am below goal and have been maintaining for months.
I'd suggest finding a way of eating that you believe can be sustainable for you. I can't imagine where I'd be now if I hadn't done all that hard work on the front end of surgery.
    Good luck!

Was pizza a trigger food for you pre-op? I had a huge issue with carbs, and pizza was the biggest issue of my hoggish consumption, so I stay away from it, even at 16 months post-op. (That being said, I avoid most all carbs and only have about 20-25 grams per day.)
You'll probably be fine, but remember that pizza dough will expand in your stomach. If you must, you might consider just having the toppings or having some sort of thin crust pie.
When I go to pizza places with family and friends, I just get a salad. I've worked really hard to make those kind of gatherings more about spending time with people and not about the food consumed.
    Have fun!

blizair09 got a reaction from logicwand in I Think I'm Doing Everything Wrong...and Shrinking
    I'll chime in...
First, I abstained from alcohol for the entirety of my six month pre-op diet program and the first 3 months post-op. I just wasn't willing to derail the progress I wanted to make on the front end of the surgery (where I lost 100 pounds by surgery day) or the first few months post-op.
I took my ex on a monthlong tour of SE Asia at the 3 months post-op point. I spoke with my surgeon about alcohol on the trip, and he told me that I would be fine. His only recommendation was to take it easy and test things out at home before I went out in public with it.
I am now 16 months post-op, and it has been 22 months since I started this journey. I follow a Keto way of eating and am really particular about what I put in my body. I have lost 225 pounds, am below goal, and have maintained beautifully for several months now. Do I have alcohol? Yes, I do. I mostly have red wine and I mostly only have it when I am traveling for work or on the weekends. Drinking has always been a very social thing for me.
Yes, there are statistics about WLS and alcoholism just there are statistics about losing more weight with a bypass than a sleeve. But, I'll same the same thing about the alcohol as I did about the bypass vs sleeve weight loss issue in a thread the other day. It depends on the person. If you were inclined toward alcoholism before, you will be now. If you are eating and exercising like you should, a few drinks (especially with low- or no-carb mixers) probably won't cause you a problem. I had a sleeve and have been more successful than many bypass patients. It just depends on each person's story.
But if your alcohol calories outnumber your food calories, that is an issue. Something to think about.
To each his own. I have no issue with it, and never have gained one once from it, but I am also crazy obsessed about what I eat and how often I imbibe. It's all about balance, in my opinion.
    Good luck!

    Google three week stall.
In my experience, stalls are very common. In fact, during my loss phase (I got to goal at 1 year and 4 days post-op), the periods of stall vastly outnumbered the periods of loss. It is just part of the process.
Hang in there. Stick to you plan and make the right decisions and the weight will come off.
    Good luck!

From my first day, I decided to apply myself during that six months. (I have BCBS Anthem, too.) I lost 99 pounds from the start of my journey to surgery day. It was the very best thing that I could have done for myself.
Make the most of that time. You have to go through it anyway!
    Good luck!
