Sloane got a reaction from Dee~Dee in Did anyone cheat on preop
I haven't cheated on my Pre-op, which I've been on now for a week. But I'm one of the lucky ones whose NUT recommends a diet of actual food instead of all-liquid. I've been having 2-3 shakes a day w/ a little baked chicken breast, light string cheese, hummus and SF Jello and pudding as Snacks. My NUT has all sorts of food to choose from but I've narrowed down what's easiest, most nutritious (Protein packed) and easy to take to work...
I am also self-pay and do not want to have any reason for the surgery to be cancelled or difficult. I'm very excited and ready for it to take place and it doesn't occur to me to cheat at all. I am also using this time to get accustomed to eating less, not obsessing about food and breaking habits like nighttime snacking and eating 'chocolate rewards'.
I find it interesting how others approach this surgery. We are all different and have different perspectives on how to approach our goals. I hope everyone is successful regardless of how they get there. I'm making this my last stand and making the right changes so I don't have to go back to being fat ever again.

Sloane got a reaction from Raymia in Piercings....
I was able to put a large bandage on mine and told the staff I couldn't remove it (i didn't want to remove it - i've had it 20 years and didn't want it to grow shut, which I knew it would), and so I just signed a piece of paperwork and that was that. There was never any issue, nothing went wrong and I still have my one piercing...

Sloane got a reaction from Aggiemae in Not telling anyone. What do you say?
I'm always fascinated by this topic because like "Imighknow", I too am very very private and dont like telling people my business. It stems from growing up and sharing information with people who I thought were friends, only to have it used against me and embarrass me later. I have real trust issues with the 'general public' and have learned the hard way to keep my business to myself. I've only shared this with my husband and the two girls I work with because my schedule affects them directly. They've been very supportive and excited for me. But no one else knows and I'm going to keep it that way. I still don't know what i'm going to say once I start seeing friends/family who will most definitely ask what I've been doing. My mother cannot keep her mouth shut and will tell everyone she knows. I come from a very judgmental family who think they have all the answers to life and know how everyone else should do things. Its exhausting being around them.
My friends are all trying to lose weight as well, but they all like to gossip and share info that they shouldn't - I've had them tell me things about people they should not be telling anyone. So, I'm not sure what I'll be saying to them either. But I cannot confide it any of these folks because I don't want my business shared and I know they cannot keep info to themselves.
I applaud all of you who feel so comfortable in sharing your info so freely. it sounds like its benefitted others and it makes you happy. I think that's great. I wish I had the same experiences, but having been burned too many times in the past, I've learned that I have to keep my information to myself and just let people wonder. I don't like going on Facebook that much because its just an endless stream of people over-sharing and others jumping in and shaming them for their decisions. People like being snarky and bullies. Its safer in the corner. Heh...

I love the snarky vets and hope they stick around....and it is true that people are asking the same questions over and over and over again. It happens - that's the nature of a forum. I've been on them since the early 90's and they haven't changed (I used to take such abuse on AOL when I was a moderator on it for a company I worked for). I've only been on this site a few months and am just now starting to venture away from the Pre-Op/Post-Op forums into the other areas. I didn't even know there was a Rants/Raves section...I like it tho...I need to see what else I've been missing...and learn a few things too...carry on...

I love him! I don't see him that much, but he's a sweet guy who will listen and answer questions. I like his staff too. I've had no complications from the surgery whatsoever. I hope you like him too...

Sloane got a reaction from suzzzzz in First Thanksgiving
Sleeved 11/14. I skipped the meal entirely and stayed on plan instead. I'm ok with that. I'd rather be healthy and get thru this than risk any complications and end up in the hospital. I can have a good turkey meal later. Losing weight is way more important to me and I'm still on full liquids so there's no way I could even enjoy a meal right now. But I've lost 12 lbs since surgery so I'm cool with that.

Update: I'm 10 days out from surgery and the spasms have ceased for now. At least I haven't noticed them in the past day or two. If they reappear I'll see if I can figure them out. I see my Dr for follow up this coming Wed so I can ask him as well.

Probably a spasm. They should subside once your stomach figures out it is ok.

I had something similar to that in my first week or so. My surgeon gave me a prescription for a muscle relaxer and told me it was common to have muscle spams once and awhile for the first few weeks post-op and to take it if needed.

Sleeved on 11/14. No problem with the surgery, no fears, just a curious question about something I'm experiencing and assuming you have as well...
Sometimes out of the blue I'll feel a tightening in my stomach area. Its only a second or two, it feels like someone is gently squeezing my sleeve for me. It doesn't hurt, its mildly uncomfortable, it mostly happens early in the morning or late evening. It can come and go, maybe happens once or twice/four times and then its gone.
Is that my sleeve saying its looking for nutrition?
Is it just part of the healing?
Is it telling me I'm not getting enough Water?
It feels like my stomach is trying to tell me something but i"m not sure what its asking me. It mostly reminds me of a stomach growl (but its quiet).
Just curious how to read this unfamiliar symptom...

Sloane got a reaction from mylastchance21 in Very Frustrated and Confused
I'm no expert, but if you're taking in small amounts of calories, your body will go into starvation mode and hold onto anything it can. It takes a certain calorie intake in order to lose weight. Probably why you were losing more on your pre-op than post-op diet.
Dont worry - there are SO many factors that can affect why people lose weight at different rates. Please relax and let the sleeve do its work and let your body heal. Stay off the scale (hide it in the garage if thats inconvenient), and find something else to preoccupy your time. Or use your clothing as you gauge as how your weight loss is coming.
There's no one easy solution - these are just suggestions to help you redirect your frustration and worry. I'm sure we all will go thru stalls and be angry at our results as we go along...But your body doesn't want you to die, so its holding onto what it takes to survive....and thats probably a good thing, right?

I'm on my jello/broth/water/popsicle regimen today...i have to get up at 4:00am to get the pre-op shower and then into the hospital.
    good job everyone!

Is there a friend, neighbor, coworker, anyone else that can drive you? At this point I would consider take an Uber to and from the hospital just to be sure you get there in time.
You are not alone- I've read so many instances of relatives who try to sabotage their success. It's cruel and unfair that those closest to you are your worst enemies at this time. I feel for you and wish you good luck. Be strong. You need to do this to get out of your body and get healthy.

I'm in Austin too. Nov 14 surgery date. I know of a support group at St Davids that's on the last Monday every month. There are others in town I'm sure. You might check with your surgeons office or hospital to see if they have a local group but I'm sure you could attend this one. Why not!
