I told limited people and waited till a couple of weeks before surgery to do that. My kids were stunned. Worried about how risky it was and then acted as if I didn't tell them. Another family member, who never dealt with weight, stated how all she had to do to be healthy was make a life style change. People who haven't dealt with the physical and emotional pain of obesity don't understand doing this. We are doing it for ourselves. Good luck to you.

Please please call the Dr. I just lost a friend who was recovering from back surgery. Her legs were swelling. She called the Drs office , they told her to walk. She died from a clot. Please seek medical treatment. In all the paperwork we signed about possible complications it talks about leg swelling and contacting the Dr office

I started just over 50 and am now 23ish. Took about a year and a half to get to my low weight and I've kept it off for over 4 years. Like others said, it takes work on your part, but it's only as hard as you make it. Utilize all resources at your disposal, including support groups and personal therapy. Every single person I've seen not lose or regain have done so because of going back to eating the way they did before surgery. Without professional psychological intervention, I would have done the same. Surgery was key to my ability to lose weight, but the mental changes are what keeps it off.

This is a wonderful forum and it's imperative that we newbies get to hear from those of you post surgery on your knowledge and experience. The commonality is that at one point and more, in our lives we were all consumed with compulsion, justifying our overeating, binge eating, laughing off the 3rd slice of pizza. Please understand that calling people stupid is not helpful. They are in a sad and dangerous place. Ridicule will only stop them for asking for guidance and support. I know it's frustrating but try to remember other people's frustration with us as they watched us "in the food" gaining weight, getting unhealthy, making bad choices. We've all had enough ridicule on our lives. We are at different points on this path, different strengths, different abilities. It's easy to ridicule its hard to understand sometimes.

Fill stock pot with kale add 2 cans Beans cover with broth, season simmer for 3 hours. Good for Iron and Fiber too. Hang in there☺. Good for you for getting back on track.

    @@shani1970,
First, don’t beat yourself up over it. Just use it as a learning experience. Be grateful that your body is talking to you by sending you pain signals to tell you that you should not have eaten the pork chop. And…listen! Get in the habit of listening to your body, and it will tell you a lot of useful information that can help you lose more weight and feel better in the short and long term.
As other posters have said, eating foods before you are ready for them can lead to serious problems, such as a leak. That should help motivate you to follow your surgeon’s post-op diet instructions. They are there for a reason. I know it feels like forever, but you are going to be back to eating solid foods again soon. Then you will have the rest of your life to enjoy those lean and healthy proteins!
You can also use this as a learning opportunity in messing up, forgiving yourself, and getting right back on track. You will make many, many mistakes in the future. The mistakes themselves are not important on their own. It is how you handle them and move forward that counts.
    Hope you feel better soon!

cbonet reacted to WLSResources/ClothingExch in LBL looming & not sure I really know what I am getting into - need ADVICE
Daisee, what I'm about to say isn't gospel, as I haven't had reconstructive surgery. What follows is simply bits (we'll come back to that in a moment) that I recall a friend who had what you've signed on for a number of years ago. Also some of what I recall from more routine surgery.
The lady bits. Your friend has them, too, and she knows they're something you have in common. You were present at her lady bits festival and I'll bet that, at the time, she didn't give a rat's asss who might see them. Sometimes they are merely body parts, remember? If it will make a difference, let her know ahead of time that you may need help with your down there.
That said, if you do think you won't get past the discomfort, then make arrangements with the home care nurse. She's also adept at something else you'll need and which your mother and friends may not be: Helping a patient to rise from a seat when the parts that move the rising muscles and parts are screaming. It's that sort-of linking arms maneuver?
Now that I think of it, it's probably best to have the nurse for the five days because her familiarity with the whole routine will ease your mind. (I'm sorry to be suggesting options. It wasn't my intention, especially since you want to make your decisions and get everyone lined up.) I think I'd opt for the professional and have one personal person around for extra company and help.
Ask at the surgeon's office about what aftercare involves and what to expect when you're awakened from surgery. They may also put you in touch with a patient or two who've had the same procedures simultaneously. You'd be able to get a good idea of what to expect. YouTube probably has lots of videos by women who've done the procedures, too.
After two weeks you may not want to drive home on your own. Even if you're past the worst and have decent movement, it probably would be extremely tiring -- far more than a five-hour drive is under the best circumstances.
I'm in the camp where I don't like surgical surprises. Even if something is going to be dreadful, I want to know ahead of time. It seems to lessen the crappiness and doesn't leave me feeling duped..
Sorry to have rambled around. I'm on your side.

You shouldnt eat thinking you will feel full. We have a nerve that isnt working right now to let you know when you are full. I am 4 months out and dont have a full feeling. But I will get symptoms of runny nose and things like that. You should be measuring how much you eat and not eat until its gone.
You shouldnt be eating noodles at this point. They expand in the pouch and you should be all about Proteins not any carbs or sugars.
You just started this way of life and you are bored of liquids and not following your plan, not measuring how much your eating. You can eat all day long if you want, but that isnt going to lead to weightloss.
Just because it fits doesn't mean you should eat that much. If you want food to pile up in your esophagus and have that stretch, or a leak then keep going down that road.
This is a tool, not a magic wand. You have to change your eating habits and be mindful of what and how much goes in.
    Good luck.

I agree whole heartedly with the comments. However, I haven’t failed to remember that so many folks who have problems with their weight are truly addicted to food, the process of eating and the sensation of being full, etc. This is as real as any heroin addiction. Many of us had a pre-surgery psych eval. but IMO that was simply a formality for liability purposes and is as worthless as the paper it’s written on. So we have a good % of folks in all stages of this procedure with a severe food addiction-not a huge surprise, so why is the pork chop ? (LOL said in a southern accent) .
I really hate that in our society it is offensive to suggest someone seek “help.” We all have issues that could use improvement-and us WLS folks are high on this list of need. I’m of the thinking that their lack of control sparks our own fears of failure, and thus the anger is released via a post. It is frustrating, just as all addictive behavior.

I am only a bit over 9 months out, hit my goal weight in June, and in mid-July hit 135 lbs. Since then, my weight has fluctuated between 134 lbs - 136 lbs depending on the time of the month for me and if I've been overdoing the sodium. One of the things that has really helped me maintain my weight is following the eating guidelines given to me by my NUT and bariatric team. I've also become very active and am now part of a women's rugby league again, which is fantastic because rugby was something I had to give up when I became obese since I couldn't do it physically any longer. As a mortician (funeral director), my job does entail lifting quite a bit (caskets and human bodies can be quite heavy!), so that also helps me keep in shape and active, as morbid as it sounds.
Overall, I think the combination of following the dietary guidelines I was given and being very physically active has really helped me maintain my weight loss. I don't plan on changing my eating or activity habits, so hopefully, I'll be stable where I am now for the foreseeable future. I am VERY happy here, as this is the weight I was before I gained over 100 pounds due to psychiatric medication, which is what started me on this path (I have severe schizoaffective disorder and was given Zyprexa, which pretty much made me gain 5 pounds the moment I filled the script, no joke). I'm now on a combination of weight-neutral medication that works for me with notes in both my physical and mental health files that I can no longer be put on any medications classified as weight-positive (THANK HEAVENS!).
It's been a long, long journey so far...but I would do it again in a heartbeat!

I actually joined Weight Watchers so I could have someone weigh me in every week! I seemed to do just fine when I was going in regularly to see my NUT but once they switched me to only going in every 6 months I started to struggle. When I finally do get to my goal weight I will be able to still go to Weight Watchers every week for weigh in and not have to pay anymore. Even if I did have to pay each week I think it would be worth it for me just to keep my weight in check.
