Don't ask me how I stumbled on this. I'm not really sure. But I thought it would offer up a little comic relief - on a couple of levels - concerning an oft discussed topic.

It took me 15 months to lose a total of 92 pounds before the weight loss just stopped.
Now at almost 2.5 years out, do you think it matters one sh*t how long it took me to lose it? All that matters now is I keep off what I lost!
And @@Djmohr is right. Just wait until you're at goal, but you gain a few pounds. I gained almost 6 last spring, and it took me 4 months to lose it. Yes, four.

I agree that not all fat people who seek WLS are food addicts, but I can tell you that without a doubt, not everyone who is on a month long liquid diet considers chewing and spitting.
I never considered it once as a fat person. It's extremely dangerous and a very slippery slope towards a real eating disorder. When you chew (or lick), your digestive system starts producing acid in anticipation of real food hitting your tummy in a few moments. When that doesn't happen, the excess acid is still hanging out with nothing to break down, so being bored, it works it's magic on the lining of your stomach. This could be ulcer territory you are headed into.
Chewing and spitting is also a mild form of bulimia.
    No LOL about that.

I wanted to do this New Years Eve but I was unable to, I did this New Years Day instead. I've been donating all of the clothes that I no longer fit except for the ones that had my company logo on them. I decided to wrap up our Christmas tree in the old clothes and torch it in the front yard. There is no way that I'm going to be wearing those sizes again! As it burned I danced around it screaming "my clothes, my clothes, my clothes are on fire. I don't need no Water let those M...........s burn! Burn M..............s burn!". If you are close to my age you may recognize the slightly different lyrics to a song from The Bloodhound Gang. Not the genre that I prefer but the song was appropriate for the situation.

I had my gastric sleeve done January 11th. I weighed 333.1lbs.
I'm 10 months post op now and weigh 144.2lbs.
I've set new goal weights as I've gone along...first was just to get under 200lbs, then I thought I wanted my goal weight to be 180lbs. When I got there, I made the crazy goal of 150lbs never thinking I'd make it....but I did. So then I figured my goal would be 145lbs which puts me at a normal bmi...which I haven't been since I was around 10.
Now that I weight 144lbs, I've decided my final goal will 133lbs, which will mean I will have lost a total of 200lbs....and I'll do it, I know I can.
I never thought when I had surgery that weighing in the 130's would even be possible.
I've gone from wearing sizes 5-6x, and 28-30, now I wear smalls and mediums and am a size 8....I would be around a 6 if it wasn't for the large amount of skin I have around my stomach and thighs....but it's a price I'm more than happy to pay.
I've been extremely disciplined this whole 10 months. I can honestly say I've never put a bad food in my mouth...not once. I follow a very low carb diet still, drink about 85oz of Water every day and get in around 80oz of Protein. I take all my required Vitamins daily.
The gym has become a big part of my life. I workout around 5-6 days per week doing a variety of exercising....spin class, step  class, yoga, cardio machines....I like doing different things so I don't get bored.
Anyway, because I'm so close to goal, I just wanted to share this. And for the people who have a lot of weight to lose like I did....remember, you can do this! I'm living proof!!

What about rny? Not as drastic as ds but a bit more effective than the sleeve. I weighed 281 at my Rny surgery on 8/8/16 I now weigh 204. That's a 77lb. Loss in less than 5 months. I needed to lose about 140 to 150lbs. I'm half way there.

deb2571 reacted to LittleBill in I felt like an ex smoker today
You know how people who were one thing, and then reformed themselves all of a sudden become fanatical about that thing they used to be? Ex smokers are one of the best examples, policing the ranks of those who continue to smoke, evangelizing them to save them from that particular sin. They are especially known for their zeal. I sort of felt that way today.
After my post op check up (which went very well), I drove up to visit my parents and help my Dad with a few chores around the house. While we were working, my Mom declared that we needed to go to the store to get some things she had been wanting for a while. Now "we" translates and "Dad and I". As for the store, she did not care, as long as it had everything she wanted on her list. It was that discussion that led to the circumstances where I found myself a short while later.
We wound up in the mecca for fat people. There were more fat people there than at the Golden Corral on 10% off day. Yes. I am talking about Walmart. I hate going to Walmart. I don't like having to walk for what seems like miles just to discover they really don't have what I want. What's even worse sometimes IS finding what I want. Then I have to stand in line to check out - a line that stretches into the hazy distance like people lined up waiting for Judgment Day. And today was even worse. We were at a Walmart in a popular vacation spot for people from a very large city whose initials are N.Y.C. So it was fat people with an attitude.
I also made the mistake of texting Mrs. LittleBill to tell her I was at Walmart, thinking she would at least sympathize. I received an LOL and a list of stuff to look for. So now I had two missions. We had to park so far away from the building that all we could see was the top, peeking over the horizon. I am pretty sure we were in a different zip code. The parking lot was solid with vehicles. In the distance I could see people dodging back and forth between the city drivers zooming around looking for the best spot. I said to Dad, "Maybe today isn't such a good day to try and go in there." He turned to me and said, "It's not worth my life to come home empty handed! We're going in!"
We eventually made it to the door. I grabbed a cart, and waded into the mêlée, calling out to Dad that we could split up and cover more territory more quickly. It was like a cross between bumper cars and the demolition derby. People were smacking into one another left and right, coming out of the ends of the aisles like they had been fired out of a cannon. Baleful glares and insincere apologies were exchanged with abandon. And in all of this, there was a huge number of human juggernauts, cruising through slowly, yet unstoppable. They drew my attention with fascination.
Like the ex smoker described above, I looked from person to person, thinking: "You need bariatric surgery. You need bariatric surgery. You REALLY need bariatric surgery! I can't believe I used to look like that! Did I really look like that!?! This place is a GOLD MINE for my surgeon!" It was actually kind of weird. On one hand, I felt something of a kinship with these people while on the other hand I was repulsed. I think a lot of the latter had to do with attitude though. I really get impatient with rude people.
In one sense it was something of an NSV for me. I am still fat, but I am not the land yacht I used to be, and to a degree, I felt a whole lot slimmer as I negotiated the killing fields of the retail environment. It was also something of a wake up call, to learn that I do not perceive myself in the same way that I used to. I am going to have to work on that one for a while. It kind of snuck up on me and grabbed me by the throat. But at least I made it out of there alive.

The standards for most insurance companies are BMI of 40 or BMI of 35 with two or more co-morbidities such as diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. So there are lots of people who have WLS with BMIs lower than 40. I agree that WLS should be available to people with BMI lower than 40. And ultimately, it's a physician who needs to be looking at the totality of the medical history to determine if there's medical indication for the surgery, and that physician who has to be accountable to his medical practice board for his medical decisions.
I worry when I hear of people with low BMI (28-33) wanting such a drastic measure taken. The medical evidence does not point to WLS as being an appropriate intervention at those BMI levels. There is a good chance that the person is suffering from a body image disorder or eating disorder if they're trying to get the surgery at those levels. However, I don't know the person's medical history. They could be a serious yo-yo dieter who's been at much higher BMI and is at a low point now but is cycling up and wants to break the cycle before hitting another high. There is so much screwed up about body image and fat shaming in our society that plays into all of this.
I just remind myself that most of plastic surgery is not medically necessary, but we don't shame (mostly) people who get it done.
To the OP, I just say this... the sleeve is a VERY drastic surgery that cannot be reversed, and I would personally not recommend it for the amount of weight you have to lose. I would suggest you consider options that are reversible before pursuing this option. Many patients having the sleeve lose about the amount of weight you need to lose in the pre-operative phase by following a low-carb eating plan, which is what you'd likely be on post-operatively. You might consider trying a few months on a strict low-carb plan and see how that goes as far as curbing your hunger and cravings before taking a permanent surgical step.

Have you considered therapy? You have so little to lose that something as drastic as major surgery probably isn't your best option.
Feeling bullied, suicidal, etc. won't go away with WLS. Hugs to you. I think a counselor and a nutritionist are your best bet.
    Good luck!

I think the more important question is WHY didn't the surgery work?
If it's a medical issue, completely understandable.
If it's a case of the patient not being compliant, then why would another surgery be any different?
