Shi-Shi80 got a reaction from stormid in How much time did you take off work?
I only requested 4 weeks but my doctor recommend 6 weeks so my job just said for me to let them know in advance if I need the additional 2 weeks. My job also recommended I apply for STD and FMLA which were both approved so I'm happy about that. This first week has been interesting with today being the worse. I guess my body finally realized what happened and had a moment of spazzing out. LOL But I'm back to feeling good so I'm so thankful for that and these weeks off.

@@fit2bme Thanks for saying no 2 journeys are the same because I see so many people comparing their weight loss to others and getting discouraged for not losing as much as fast as someone else. I have told myself daily even though I don't have my surgery until 8/23 because I know it will be easy to fall i to that trap.
Congrats to both you anf @@Djmohr success so far!

A lot of people feel that way about the gym and it's understandable. I used to hate the gym because 1) I felt like everyone was staring at the "fat girl", 2) I didn't know how to use the equipment, and 3) I love the outdoors, but then I got a personal trainer for a few weeks and my anxiety level dropped. First, he got me to realize that no one's really paying attention and if they were and I'm creeped out then tell the workers and they'll handle it. Secondly, he taught me how to use the equipment and developed me a workout routine which included some outdoor activities. Finally, he helped me determine the best time to hit the gym to avoid the crowd. LOL Not sure if any of my issues are the same for you but it's just a thought. As for what to do, the treadmill is a great choice because it gives you that cardio workout but weight lifting will be great to build the muscles and help with tightening/toning the skin some. I had a sleeve before my recent bypass so I had to conquer my gym issues a few years ago. :-)

I have UHC as well and I'm wondering if it's the surgeon that's the issue. Is your surgeon's practice considered a "Bariactric Center of Excellence" because that was necessary for my insurance? I know each company has its own criteria but my UHC provider required my surgeon to be part of this and I had no issue with getting approved. Check and see if that's the issue.

You are a beautiful person inside and out. Remember that for your self. I am famous for eraseing people comments I don't like on my Facebook post. That will give him an idea that was the wrong thing to say. Yes people look at our outer shell but what's important is the inner person and forget that guy.

I had joined gyms in the past but really didn't know what to do. This time, the gym recommended their personal trainers--with the new membership you get a few free sessions. This really helped me to figure out what to do at the gym and made such a difference. They created a card for me with the different exercises to do and how many reps to do and it is kept in their card file that I can access anytime. I haven't even looked at it in a couple of years now! But I also walk/run outside, do zumba, treadmill, and I have some home equipment that I like to use: jump rope, hula hoop, kettle bell, bands, etc. Frankly, I have the best luck with just being outside walking/hiking that sort of thing. I keep meaning to do some bike riding but that still scares me and frankly, I haven't really ridden a bike since they required helmets so not sure how I feel about that. Find something you love to do--dance class? karate? anything! Best of luck.

Generally I walked up and down my driveway. It is very steep and the exercise is more like hill walking or climbing stairs. Uses two different sets of muscles. It was easy and right out my front door.
My problem was the YMCA was a 30 minute drive from my home and it was almost a waste to go that far just for exercise.
Also I hate exercise for exercise sake. I would rather do manual labor. So for each of the first two years after surgery, I moved 100,000 pounds of gravel by hand along with around 60,000 pounds of concrete blocks. I like to build things.

Thank you @@Shi-Shi80! I know I can do it! I'm going to get everything prepared tonight so no excuses tomorrow! I have also been to the gym at a bigger size than I am now and the benefits outweighed my discomfort. I really don't know what my issue is, it's a must at this point.

    Hi
I started off by walking outside on trails and in my neighborhood I walk my dog at least 2 miles a day, the gym isn't my favourite place but it's either that or all that extra skin. Good luck ????

Shi-Shi80 reacted to Cervidae in Why am I gaining weight?!?!
yeah, there's no way you could have gained 5 pounds of fat in a week. Watch your sodium levels, drink as much Water as humanly possible, and breathe. I understand that anxiety and frustration, believe me! I gain 5-10 pounds every freaking month around my period. It's horrible. But I soldier through because I know it's all Water retention, and sure enough, I lose all of it again and get back to actual weight loss not long after. Hang in there! You're doing great. Think about how much better you feel and look and how much healthier you are now compared to when you began this process. Even if you were stuck here forever (which I highly doubt) would it really be all that bad? That's how I look at it when I get stressed about the number on the scale. I'll take 203 over 450 any day!

I've been on Nexplanon (implant) since about February. Been happy with it. No periods anymore, just a day or so of spotting every two months. I had it for four months before my surgery and I did not have any issues with weight gain with it. The only thing that is weird is that I have to use blood pressure cuffs on my right arm and everyone seems like they like to do it on the left arm.

Moral of the story - listen to your body. I felt worse by the hour. Belly got more tender and rigid. Couldn't eat or drink. My friend who came to check on me tried to reach bariatric office or surgeon. No dice. So to the ER we went. A catscan later I was back in OR to fix a hernia. I feel much better again. I'm glad bc I was regretting this choice if that's how I was going to feel! Glad it's not.
