kristinehaigh got a reaction from MSer07 in Protein goals
I scoop of nectar protein has 23 grams of protein. In the beginning I mixed 1 scoop with 4 ounces of Water. That was considered Clear liquids for the first stage of recovery. 3 shakes would give me 69 grams of protein. The 4th shake is a bonus amount. That also counts as your Fluid intake. That's a total of 12 oz with all protein requirements. Or drinking 4 shakes gives me 16 oz of fluids with 92 grams of protein. Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

I am 7 weeks post op and the for the first month, I never thought about food and loved that. Now I do think about food but mostly what I can have or want that will help me continue on my weight loss journey. So far, I have stuck to my plan and don't feel deprived. I eat out a lot while socializing and have found it easy to find something on the menu I can eat or adapt. Then when I begin to eat and realize, again, I can't eat much, eating just isn't much of a big deal anymore. This is a good journey so far!

kristinehaigh got a reaction from ella37 in Did anyone NOT have a miserable recovery?
I am 5 weeks out, I follow my post op diet plan as instructed. I have not had any problems so far. My recovery after surgery was better than I expected, the pain wasn't really pain, just more uncomfortable than anything. I also had a low bmi to start with at 31. I have lost 25lbs this first month. The only issue I have had is Constipation, which I don't really think is that bad of an issue. I don't have any negative feedback about the sleeve surgery. Everyone has different bodies and react to things differently. People tend to vent more when things aren't going well which us why you may see more negative feedback than positive. All in all...I'm happy I had the surgery, I feel great! Was back at work a week after surgery. Good luck and don't be afraid

Hi guys! I'm just checking in. I had surgery on 7/7 and am feeling the best I have felt in the last couple of years. The weight is coming off, I'm getting nice bursts of energy and my skin is glowing.
I'm on soft foods and am supposed to try "regular" foods this week. Not sure what I'll end up trying for regular first. I've been eating mostly dairy, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, but have tried all kinds of fish, chicken breast, veal, cheeseburger and no problems so far. I just feel full right around the 2 oz in supposed to eat on my plan. I was off shakes for a few days while traveling but am now going back on as its really hard to get enough Protein from food alone in such small amounts.
Best wishes to all the other July sleevers!

I had my surgery on 4/27. I get a runny nose when I am full- I know this because in the beginning I would ignore the runny nose, eat too much and get sick- I now use it as a barameter to stop eating at that sitting. It has been a help and people think I am crazy but I have embraced my runny nose as a sign.

@@Bufflehead Thank you for this explanation. I have heard that your nose may run when you get full and that happens to me but I never knew why.

It's because your vagus nerve is being irritated. It runs along the top of your stomach, and for many people it gets super-sensitive after surgery. The vagus nerve controls all sorts of autonomous reactions in the upper body, like hiccups, sneezing, and getting a runny nose. Many people find that if they eat less, they don't get that reaction, as not as much food is pressing against the nerve and irritating it. This sort of thing tends to go away as time passes from surgery.

I had my surgery on July 8th. Are you getting at least 60 grams of Protein a day? Protein is important so your body will use stored fat as energy. I was scared to poop also, you can get over the counter stool softener called col-rite, helped me out tons! Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App
