Well I need to lose 50 to get back to my lowest. The weight has gone on gradually over the past 3 years, I knew I had to get it in hand but didn't. How did I get in this position well it's wine and snacking (grazing). My husband and I can share a bottle of wine (or 2!) but it is accompanied by crisps (chips) and a family bar of chocolate. Cakes and biscuits have also creeped in to my diet. See I know exactly what I'm doing wrong. I do have good restriction and if I eat correctly I get full on quite small amounts. The other thing I have done wrong is give up exercise. I don't like exercising but I do know it is essential.

My plan: initially there will be no wine at home and consequently cut out the crisps and chocolate. Exercise. The number 50 is too big for me and quite frightening so I am going to cut it down into sections of 5 which seems so much more manageable.

I have started today and I have used my elliptical and there is no wine in the house.

My recommendation is stop any shakes and Protein supplements and feed your body lean protein, a wide range of vegetables, small amounts of whole grains, and a little fruit. Whole Foods, no sweeteners. And drink tons of Water only. No artificial or natural sweeteners. Give it a try. I think you will feel great and get results.

My doctor has the following guidelines: Calories 800; Carbs 40; Protein 65-80; Water At least 64 oz. Weigh and Measure everything, and Track your food. Protein first, followed by veggies. When I follow the guidelines I lose weight. I include one shake a day to up my protein. I totally avoid Protein Bars -- too many carbs.
I think your proposed plan of an egg for Breakfast and a piece of chicken for lunch and dinner would not be successful. You would "fall off the wagon" quickly and become more discouraged.
I've had some difficulties lately and I'm just getting back on track. It is tough, but I won't give up. I am determined to reach my goal.
    Best of luck to you.

I'm exactly the same! Lost NOTHING for 3 months. I eat about 1000 a day. Dr said stop the shake. Nut said too MUCH Protein, add small fruit, then dr said no fruit, add shake....I'm so confused! I've tried changing what I eat, how much, increased activity, increased Water, etc. a friend that is about a year out said it happened to her too, said one day just started falling off quickly again. I'm praying for that day! Lol

Yes, I have talked to my surgeon. He wants me to do the preop liquid diet to restart but I find that very difficult because the shakes are just a slider food for me. I want to use my tool for what it is...restriction

    @BigViffer
I am just offering her suggestions based on the very limited information she provided. We have no idea what kind of bars she is eating. You are a man with a higher RMR and you are lifting. You could probably afford to have a FitCrunch bar every day, OP really can't afford those carbs or calories. I see very few people here ever post about eating bariatric appropriate Protein bars. Even if she is, just looking at what she posted the majority of her calories each day are coming from fake protein substitutes.
Protein bars are fake food. Some people do well with them and others don't. Since she is having issues the protein bars, toast and Peanut Butter stand out as things that are adding carbs and could be cut.
I eat protein bars, high quality ones. I try to avoid them because they are just sliders, they offer no satisfaction.

Also, I think a lot of women would benefit from higher protein goals. I have been over 90 grams a day since day 2 and average in the 120 to 130 range most days. Keeping my protein goals high has allowed me to retain muscle while losing and it keeps me full. High protein goals also leaves little room for other empty calories.

You still didn't post your calories, Protein, or carbs. Those number matter.
Give up the toast. Give up Peanut Butter. It is calorie dense with not enough nutritional value to justify it.
The Protein Bars and shakes are giving you too many carbs probably. Protein bars are a really fake food. They are made with so many chemicals, that alone might be your stall right there. I try to have no more than 2 a week and only in an emergency.
Give up the protein bars and the shakes.
Have dense protein for Snacks. Steak, chicken, pork chops cut into strips.
Do you weigh and measure all of your food? Everything even Condiments?
If you aren't weighing your food and tracking it, you are just guessing.

So...4 months out and (almost) 4 stones down...the before and after photos are at 3 stone off, I look SO different again, just need to take a pic.

I have lost 12 inches off my waist and 14 off my 'mum tum' (its flabby flap has gone from 3 inches of sag to under 1/2)

I am lighter than my other half...therefore no longer the heaviest in the house *high 5*

I have lost the combined weight of my 4 year old, the cat and 2 of our hens

    I buy a UK size 16 off the peg (previously a 22)

I have just applied for and got a job which I wouldn't have dreamed of even applying for 5 months ago...start tomorrow eek!

My 4 teens are super proud of my new look and (though they aren't consciously doing it) are actively spending more time with me around their friends...and my 4 year old is thrilled with my new energy levels.

I'm away to take climbing instruction and have joined 2 groups to learn that and ukulele...and am involved with sorting a 20yr reunion for my high school (a stark contrast from my previous very anti-social self)

I have legs...really nice ones...I have always totally viewed them as my worst asset and had no idea that these shapely beings existed beneath my previous tree trunks.

My boobs are no longer my best asset...this really worried me pre-op as I was massively defined by them...you know what??? I don't care (and neither does he)!

I can go buy vintage clothes...and they fit...and they look amazing (hand knitted 70s dress from a charity shop is my absolute favourite buy)

The skin looseness is nothing like I thought it would be

Learning that food is fuel and not enjoyable is hard and the mental process behind it isn't a nice one...but the feeling of accomplishment helps more than I could have ever believed!

    I love yoga!

This is the best investment I have ever made in myself...I am just so, so happy! yes...there are negatives, but they are far outweighed by all the zillions of good stuff :D

I would like to hear from the people that have not hit or even come close to the expected weight loss goal 1 to 2 years out.
Im wondering how often this happens? It's a big fear of mine but mainly because I feel like I am not doing enough to reach my goals. How can I not take full advantage of this gift I have to myself? Feeling very angry at myself.

    Hi guys,
I'm following your conversation. I understand what you are saying about reduced metabolic rates. But I'm not sure what specifics to put into action. Looking back, what would you recommend for caloric intake during honeymoon to avoid problems later?

I know Alex and B-52 and others have had success with lap-bands, but I also keep hearing about people who have had them and the initial restriction helped them lose weight, they eventually gained it back. And that makes sense to me as more and more evidence comes out showing sleeves and gastric-bypass are much more than restrictions. At some point, they might figure out that it is hormonal surgery. There are diabetics who are off their meds more quickly than people who were losing the equivalent amount of weight.
Well, how long this hormonal effect last? The Cleveland Clinic Study is showing it works for at least five years...https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/04/160404152903.htm
I am going to make a hypothesis based on this study: just because your honeymoon period (the first 6-8 months post surgery) is over, you can still get the benefits of WLS a couple of years out. I keep wondering if the reason I was losing so quick up front is because I was really mindful for the first few months. And yes I was really excited too. But like many, I slacked off. The very real restrictions in my stomach/sleeve have made it easier to maintain, but I can restart my weight loss.
I posted about how my view of how I see my body has changed over the last 18 months (http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/386931-who-dat/), and I'm about ready to start a rather intense six-week program this week designed to jump start weight loss. It should be interesting because the diet looks like what I was eating on week five following my surgery, only this time with more intense exercise. In short, I'm really excited, but also I'm looking at this as a follow-up experiment. I feel like I did when my post-surgery restrictions ended and the weight loss journey really began.
I've sort of beat myself up mentally for not being as diligent as I could have been, but I've been putting some of the techniques from this article into practice: http://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/03/well/mind/the-year-of-conquering-negative-thinking.html?ribbon-ad-idx=5&rref=health&module=Ribbon&version=origin&region=Header&action=click&contentCollection=Health&pgtype=article. I embraced what I did and didn't do. I believe it is possible to have multiple second chances.
If I'm right, my sleeve is still a great tool, even 2.2 years out. I'd love to hear from others who lost their focus but came back years later to finish what they started when they had their surgery.

Just start a new day fresh. It's a new way of life and we can't be perfect all the time .
Maybe you didn't eat as much as you would have before? Maybe you are more conscious about it and will try to remember how you felt next time?
My friend that has lost over 125lbs said "make good choices with your next meal and don't let it be an excuse to keep eating like that". Don't look back. Today is a new day!
    Remember why you did this!

Unfortunately, it appears it is definitely the norm for certain users. But you'll get to know who they are though and can just skip over their comments (that worked for me). You can get a lot of good information and positive reinforcements from most users here if you can look pass the negativity. At the end of the day these tools help us fix whats on the outside, but the inside is a whole different story. Thanks to the original poster for hopefully helping some of us avoid what sounds like a very debilitating mistake.

nope. Ive set my goal at around 850 and don't often make it that high. doesn't seem to matter I''m still losing and actually increasing my calories broke my last stall. Frankly a pound a day is not realistic for any length of time (i only lost at that rate during my 2 week liquid diet and not since) so don't get used to that as normal or you will drive yourself crazy. .5lbs a day is fantastic, works out to about 15lbs a month which is pretty rapid weight loss as far as i'm concerned and that is faster weight loss than i expect for myself. I still do one shake a day, but I enjoy it. I used restoralax and don't get constipated. My stalls have typically lasted a week. I'm religiously sticking to plan and weighing and measuring everything still. Keep in mind that outside of bariatric surgery a 10lb loss for a month is considered extraordinarily great. This is a long game. choose foods well and stick it out and your body will do what it needs to do. from what i've read most of what you lose in the 1st year is mainly determined by genetics but what you lose beyond that and whether you have maintained it at 3 years out is much more influenced by your lifestyle and food choices. the vets on here who've been successful all echo that.
