SheilanLee got a reaction from Applebootom9 in What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
My final straw was during my daughter's wedding prep, her soon to be father in law complained about his weight, #250. He had no idea I weighed what he did, he'd never insult me on purpose. I didn't think I was as big as he was. He was much taller, so I'm sure he wore it better. But also, I've had 2 kids graduate and I've always wanted those pictures to be of a skinnier me, I wasn't thrilled with my 250# body in their forever pictures. One graduation this year as well and I'm glad to know I'll be much healthier!

Great answers, I didn't know what to expect of the gas pain. Once I was able to control the nausea after 2 days with Zolfran and a patch behind my ear, I was able to drink my Water and walk more often. I used my morphine as often as I needed to. It did make me super tired though and slowed down my will to walk. But day 3 as the gas pain lessened, I was walking more often. I went home on day 5. Originally I swore I'd never recommend the surgery, but I feel pretty good now, 13 days post op. Much easier than non laparoscopic appendix and gall bladder removal. Good luck!!

I was in a lot of pain when I first woke up from surgery. I felt like I was having a hard time breathing, but I know it's because he repaired a hiatal hernia and the CO2 gas also played a part. The gas pain was the worst part of it all. It felt as if someone hit me in the back of my left shoulder with a hammer. My incisions barely hurt at all. They were tender, but very easy to deal with. It took me about 2 days to feel human again. My pain only got to a 7 on the pain scale. It never went higher than that. If you're in too much pain, tell your nurse you want Diluadid. It helped me relax and sleep while I was in the hospital. Now I'm 3 days post-OP and I am no longer in pain. It was definitely worth it.

Hi! I was in the same place you were: the closest thing to surgery I ever experienced was wisdom teeth removal.
Waking up sucked. A lot. But it was manageable. I was able to walk a bit within a few hours, but it didn't feel good. The first evening was not very pleasant, and I was unable to sleep for some reason - even when they gave me a sedative shot. But once they gave me the shot, for whatever reason it eased my discomfort drastically, and from that point on any pain was pretty minimal. By the next morning my dad and sister were surprised at how much better I looked.
Some of the other ladies that had surgery the same weekend weren't quite as fortunate. My advice would be to make certain you stick to the pre-op diet (if you're given one) pretty religiously and really prep yourself in advance by cutting out all caffeine, carbonation and most sugar long before you go in for surgery. You don't want to be going through withdrawl at the same time you're recovering, and I honestly think that played a big role in why I've healed up so nicely.

@@SheilanLee Each surgeon has different pre-op diets. Some people are on Clear Liquids pre-op while others are on low carb/high Protein diets. My surgeon has me on a low carb/high protein diet for 2 weeks before surgery. On Saturday and Sunday, it'll just be Clear Liquids since my surgery is next Monday. Do you have a surgery date yet? It seems like every facility is different. I am on my 2 week liquids and can't have anything except the Optifast products 4 times a day. I don't get options for Soup, salad, etc. And it's terrible stuff lol.

My pre-op diet is liquids only per my dr with the exception of Greek yogurt and sugar free Jello. Some people don't even have to do it at all so each dr has preferences. I'm supposed to be getting 800-1000 calories but averaging about 600.

    You can do it!
Definitely stay hydrated and fill up on what you are allowed to have: Decaf tea, sugar-free Popsicles, crystal light, etc.
