Major life change for one is always going to stress the relationship... if the relationship was on solid foundation heading into the change, there's a good chance you can make it through. If not... well... this...

I don't have the same insurance but I got my appointment datesneeded to meet my insurance's 3 month requirements booked at my first appointment. They also did my initial blood work, diet, insurance requirements, and a discussion with my doctor about the options at that appointment. My final appointment is Tuesday. You have every right to be excited about the first step in your journey.
    Best wishes to you.

Only 9.6 pounds to go until I hit my goal!
    I have muscles! Who knew!!!!??
I'll be hitting my 10 month post op Gastric Bypass date on July 21st! I can't believe I've lost 114 lbs in 10 short quick months! I am working hard to hit my goal by the one year surgiversary date, but if I don't then I'm not going to be too sad about it..... Cuz how can I be!?
I will say that losing the last 10 pounds are the hardest!
I may not be losing too fast as per the scale now, but I can definitely see a change in my body so I'm totally happy! !!

As of yesterday, I have lost 134lbs and now weigh under 200lbs!!
I had my surgery January 11.
    Start weight was 333.1
    Yesterday's weight 199.1
As someone who has spent the majority of my adult life weighing well over 300lbs, this is a huge accomplishment for me. I never thought I would get to this weight. I cried when I saw the scale yesterday.
When I had wls, I never really picked a number I wanted to get to as a goal weight....all I wanted was that number to start with a 1!!! Now that I'm here, I feel there's nothing I can't accomplish. I'm still not sure where I want to be yet, but my next goal will be to get to 180lbs.

It's like I was explaining to my kiddo who wanted to know if her birth control was making her fat... statistically, birth control puts 10-15 lbs on a person, not 50. PCOS makes it easy to gain and hard to lose, but generally is not the only - or even the primary - culprit if you're pushing 400 lbs.
Whitney doesn't eat for most of the day, a hold-over from her disordered eating days. She doesn't feel that she deserves to eat since she's so big. So when she does finally eat, she's starving, she eats until she's satisfied, and her choices leave something to be desired. The eating disorder has likely completely wrecked her metabolism, and she's doing it a further disservice by eating only once or twice in a day.
That's why I've fought so hard against giving my kiddo (she's 19 now) the idea that she needs to "diet". She's currently about 40 lbs overweight, but is active and fighting several chronic conditions... so anytime she starts talking about how she's "fat" or needs to diet, I try to talk to her about staying active and making healthy food choices instead of "dieting". I don't want her to get to where I'm at, but I also don't want her developing disordered eating habits.
I don't hate Whitney, I think she's a very interesting person. I just hope that her mounting health problems give her the motivation to make some real changes in her lifestyle, whether it's surgery or not. She needs to stop smoking, and start eating healthy. Her trainer has been trying to hammer that into her, maybe it'll take this time.

I have watched the show, though I have not watched the new season yet....I'm sure I am going to catch up on it at one point or another. I must say that I do get a kick out of her Mom and their interactions on the show.
I think that said the show is a dichotomy of positive body image and obesity prejudice along with a bit of disillusion about what exactly being obese truly is versus being a "healthy" weight. To be fair they do try to portray the very real struggles of obesity along with all the health issues that stem from the disease such as PCOS and Diabetes. Making light of things such as "chub rub" and aching feet and joints and holes in spandex.
In many many ways the life that Whitney is living on TV is the life many of us may have lived. We have been in the denial stages where we thought we were "healthy" or that it was our illness that caused us to eat and eat and then eat some more.
I know for me I am an emotional eater and when I have days where I want to just sit locked in my bedroom in front of the TV and eat a gallon of ice cream the fact that I can't do that anymore actually adds to my "stress".
I want to believe that I am healthy even if I am obese and the truth is that I am not. However the truth is also that the lady that sits next to me and is the "perfect" weight and body size is also not healthy. The young lady that goes to my Dr. office is only 22 years old and looks like a movie star, she's not healthy either. In fact on paper my health out weighs hers and she is half my age and weight. So who is to say what is healthy when it comes to size and weight?
I applaud women like Whitney who stand up for themselves obese or not and let others know it's not about weight, size, skin color, religion, choice of wardrobe or what I put in my mouth. It's about ME, about who I am and what I have to share with the world.
The show is entertainment television, that's the category you find it under if you are searching for it along with my 600 lb life and others. If you can relate to something positive or negative GREAT you got a takeaway for your time and if not..there's always the Bachelor? LOL

vamping reacted to Christinamo7 in How is yoga useful in weight loss?
any time you are moving your body you are burning calories and working to change your metabolism.
yoga works your core and will add stability to any other movement and form of exercise you choose to perform.
it's my personal feeling that the gentle slow stretching helps me avoid injury in other activities.
how effective it can be will depend upon how challenging, length and frequency of your work outs but it is possible to get a pretty serious workout with yoga or pilates.
edited to add* please find a workout routine or combos that you love as the best way to loose weight is to keep moving, and the best way to keep moving is to do things you enjoy

Am very active as a rule; especially Water sports. My whole life I've spent covered up in a full one-piece with board shorts and a long-sleeved rash guard before hitting the waves, but...
Part of the pre-op courses stress the importance of loving the body we are in now, or else we risk not loving the post-op body later. Decided to finally take on my personal leap of bravery challenge yesterday and hit the Water in a two-piece with the only coverup being sunscreen in my 335.0 pound body.
    It was AWESOME.
I know plenty of people disagree with the sentiments here, but have to say—when I look back on this photo in a year, I will smile remembering the exact moment I embraced my life and stepped over the threshold.
Body love is caring enough to take responsibility for your health. Body positivity is loving yourself at all of the stages.
The BF took this amazing picture.
Don't care how much I weigh now, everything about this picture is "Me," and totally perfect.

@@vamping, I also have PCOS and just like you, was frustrated that it wasn't counted as a co-morbidity. But when my doctor did a peer-to-peer with BCBS after I was denied twice, he used my PCOS as well as my borderline high blood pressure, and pre-diabetes to help plead my case. So I guess it pays to record all of your issues, even if BCBS doesn't think they are major. :-)
From the sound of it, however, you shouldn't have an issue qualifying given your high blood pressure and sleep apnea, even with a BMI less than 40. A BMI of 35 or more plus 2 co-morbidities works too. Best of luck to you! You can do it!

Hi everyone. I've been lurking for quite some time and am now finally brave enough to post.
Here's the basics. I'm 41, 5'7", and 236. I am under the BMW by a hair, but have sleep apnea, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and am insulin resistant. Losing weight is a battle and I seem to regain more than I lose.
I've struggled with my weight for most of my adult life thanks to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). WLS was suggested to me at a very vulnerable time after a hysterectomy repair and presented to me as an alternative to checking my thyroid or hormones. It took me several years to even consider it as an option. I've developed many other problems with the PCOS and finally decided to look into the VSG. My husband fully supported my decision. I am choosing to only tell a limited amount of people at this time. Only one has tried to dissuade me.
I've found a fantastic surgeon and this awesome forum. I had a consultation in mid May and have begun the steps needed to meet my insurance requirements. I had the cardiovascular work up 2 weeks ago and the EGD last week. I should have my last appointment at the end of this month.
I'm very excited, a little scared, and so ready to have a body that matches my inner spirit.

I am relieved. My primary is happy I'm doing something about my weight, especially since my blood pressure is way high and didn't really come down after resting 20 min. So I'm getting a new BP med, and approval for surgery. The med well get discontinued after some of the initial weight comes off and I get more active. And this is one more co-morbidity to give the insurance company.
