    Common Problem Foods

Since my last fill (4th one), I just started having the major problems with food getting stuck and not going down! It's mainly the foods that you are not supposed to eat anyway so I really pay for it when I do try to eat them or eat too fast or not chew enough!! Own stupidity, I guess!!! Anyway, I throw up violently (sometimes for hours) on just a little bit of stuck food!!! So, like I said, better to stay away from it than to be sick!!! Common sense, I guess!!! Been banded a year now and have lost 85 pounds (15 more to go) and feeling great so stick with it!!!

2nd fill w/Realize band 6cc total no restriction

Thanks for the reply! I just recently had my one year anniversary (1/31/08 banded). I am very happy with the results...........I have lost a total of 85 pounds this past year (my goal is to loose 100 pounds total). Almost there!!! I have a 10 cc band and have had four fills totalling 6cc's. The last one was on 10/15/08....I think I have found my sweet spot with this one! I am really on track..........no red meats or white products (flour, sugar, etc) as they get "stuck" and I throw up violently for hours after even trying a small bit..........which keeps me from eating them!!! My portions seem a little bit larger but all of "good" foods so even though my weight loss is slowing down now - only lost 10 pounds since Oct. - I am keeping on track and feeling great!!! No more diabetis, no more high blood pressure, no more sleep apenea, more energy, and enjoying life to the fullest!!! The best of luck to all who have just begun the program or are hoping to get banded soon!!! This has been the best decision I have ever made.....I am in control of my life, again!!!
  5. I certainly know how you feel!!! I am stuck at 70 pounds and the scale just won't move!!! I seem to be loosing inches, though, so I guess that's good!!! But personally, it does me good to see pounds lost, ya know? I had my third fill two weeks ago and for the first time have had some trouble with solid foods - they get stuck and hurt like hell!!!! So, I have been sticking to mushies again and thought I would loose some weight, but to no avail!!! Am starting to introduce more solid foods and that seems to keep me satisfied more!!! So, I'm with you, this really stinks!!! Hopefully we can get back on track. But, I was really glad to read your message and to see that I'm not in this alone!!! Thanks!!!

    Back on track

I recently went on a four day vacation and found out that I could eat more than I "thought I could". Started right back to my diet when I got home and made sure while on vacation to do lots of exercising! Will I have a hard time getting back in the dieting mode? Did I hurt myself straying like I did? I get my third fill on 8/18, will I finally feel some restriction? I am so upset because I overdid it on vacation and liked the feeling of eating again!!! Comments, please?
  7. Yes, I definately find a difference in the way my old "favorite" foods taste now. Pizza is just not the same and I cannot tolerate red meat in any form!!! I think it is partly because of the change in our eating habits and the way we look at food now. It's for survival not for pleasure! I have noticed that just a little "taste" of a food that I used to eat and am missing now is very satisfying and cures a craving. I also think that the classes we had with a nutritionist were very helpful in changing our idea of "good" food. I keep telling myself, this is a life-change, just keep on trucking!!! Good Luck!!!

2nd fill w/Realize band 6cc total no restriction

I was also wondering about restriction. I have had two fills so far and was banded on 1/31/08. I am steadily loosing weight but I feel no restriction, either. Am still hungry sometimes and do rely on willpower quite a bit. I cannot (or will not) touch food that I am not supposed to be able to eat (like bread, sweets, etc.) and rely heavily on protein foods and veggies!!! I do get satisified when I eat but really want to feel this "sweet spot" that everyone is talking about! I think that I am going to ask for another fill to see if I feel any different. Good luck to all!

If you're researching lapband, you should know. . .

You know, I feel the same way that you do. I, too, have been banded for a little over four months now. Was banded on 1/31/08 at the University of PA, Phila., PA by Dr. Noel Williams. It's the best decision I have ever made! I have lost 60 pounds to date and have another 40 to go!! It has made so many positive changes in my life and like you, I feel fabulous!!! I only have good things to say about being banded but I do have a question for you? How many fills have you had so far and how big is your band? I've had two and was just wondering how someone else was as far as fills go. Thanks for your time and for your wonderful testimonial!!!

    How can/does the pouch stretch?

I know what you mean! I've had two fills so far and really don't feel much restriction at all! I am still slowly loosing weight but I feel more hungry and am also worried that I will eat too much food! Some of my old cravings are coming back and it is hard not to reach for junk food! I've managed so far, i was banded on 1/31/08. I have lost weight...55 pounds (forty more to go) but I really wanted to feel more satisified with less food! I guess I will call and schedule another fill, see if that makes a difference! Good luck!!
  11. I was banded 1/31/08 For Breakfast - sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast w/1% milk or Slim Fast w/extra Protein For lunch - 1 pkg. of Cream of Wheat Cereal w/Equal and Low Fat Yougart For dinner - chicken or Fish, Steamed Veggies, and maybe a tbl.of cottage cheese Snack (at night) - Rice Cake w/peanut butter Of course, drink throughout the day and always watch your protein intake!

    Esophageal spasm

I get them if I eat too fast. Feels like the food is stuck and won't move down to the stomach. Never had it before I was banded but a small price to pay for the success of the surgery. I find that if I just kind of relax and give it time, the food feels like it moves down and the pain goes away and I can continue with my meal. Good luck!
  14. i live in PA. I had my surgery done at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA by Dr. Noel Williams. When I had my first consultation with his unit, all I had to do was give his nurse my insurance information and she took care of everything. They know how to word things so that the insurance does not turn you down! It is a fabulous program there and if you are not too far away, I recommend using them highly! I was banded on 1/31/08 and have lost 50 pounds to date. I am very happy with the results. Like I said, the program with them includes a nutritionist to help you relearn how to eat properly and healthy. Call them, I'm sure they will try to help you!

    Fill Advice Needed

I've had two fills and am still waiting to feel restriction. My doctors are fabulous, at the University of Penn in Phila., PA. The fills are a breeze. The worse part for me is the upper gi afterwards! Hate that chalky drink. I have lost 50 pounds lus far, was banked 1/31/08. They say I'm doing fine but I want to know when will I feel restriction? My first fill was 3cc and the second was 2cc. They say my band is 10cc. I'm sure all will be fine, give it time!
