    Hi all,
I'm a 40 year old women who has suffered from eating disorders my whole life I have been every weight from 8 stone to 22stone. Which is my current weight. I managed to lose 9 stone ten years ago and kept it of for 7 years with exercise and healthy eating. I'm an emotional eater and From an early age suffered abuse and rejection and its continued throughout life. My self esteem has never really been high but is currently at an all time low. I have shut myself off from my family and friends and other than work stay home eating alone. I slowly put back on all weight I lose over last three years as I was in abusive relationship that's now over.
Everyone say I did it before I can do it again. But I just don't feel strong enough anymore I'm worn out from all the eating and gaining and losing of weight and the focus on food. I just want to be at peace with the whole food thing and not have that be my focus anymore.
I was put forward for bariatric surgery on Nhs one year ago and I had to go to sessions throughout this year. My final appointment is now due in three weeks and and I will find out if I have been approved or not.
I'm really scared I never have had much luck I can't go on way I am I find it hard to walk or do much these days everything hurts. But I think what if I have surgery and I die or I'm really ill for the rest of my life.
I really just want to know what it's like in reality living after bypass surgery. Is it worth it ? Do any of you regret it ? Is it painful ? Anything you can tell me to give me would be much appreciated.
I truly believe i could spend another 3 years trying to lose weight as I did before but I will always return to the food as it's been my life.
Is this the right road I'm going down based on what I've said any opinions would be welcome
Most of my friends and family think I'm making a mistake I feel very alone right now
I was lastly like to say I admire anyone that has the strength to try to change there life well done to all of you.

I had my RNY the same day as you did. I had no problem getting fluids and shakes down. I started on food yesterday and it's totally different. One scrambled egg must have really filled my pouch, I was so uncomfortable for a few hours. I'll be eating less and more slowly at my next meal!

I agree!! It is soooo much more intense "pain-wise" than the sleeve. I feel pregnant too! Lol my goodness it feels good to have others who have gone through this too and experiencing the same symptoms as I. I hope and pray for a speedy recovery for us all. Sorry in advance too if I answered a question that wasn't for me lol I'm not too savvy on this app just yet.

I will just tell you this: I felt so much better having no more reflux. THEN, I got sore. OMG the belly soreness is vicious with this surgery! DON'T overdo it! I felt good and went on a short shopping trip yesterday and it was a mistake. It set me back a bit. Be easy on yourself and let your belly heal.
I am 6 days out and have lost 5 pounds. Might be Fluid, but I don't care, lol. Oh, and your abdomen may be swollen worse than last time. This surgery is just longer and more involved, so I have more swelling and bruising. I am so happy to have these problems, though. It means I had my surgery and I am on my way again! I wish y'all good luck and I hope you do well!

I am home from the hospital and sore as all hell! My nausea and burning reflux are gone! I got to have Tomato Soup and orange Crystal Light in the hospital and NO burning! I am not very hungry, and I do have a lot of abdominal pain, so I am taking it very easy and sipping my Water. I hope you all are well!

I don't know if any of you have seen the movie "Step Brothers", but, did we just become best friends? Thank you so much for a wonderful, candid and useful thread. I worry about similar issues, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to learn and laugh. You guys and gals are top-notch. Thanks again!
I just hope that just for one night, I'll be able crawl into bed with my husband and NOT fart. Thank goodness he is a REALLY good sport.
Much love and MAD respect to y'all!

I initially wanted to have the sleeve but my doctor said that since I already have severe acid reflux that RNY was the only option for me. So RNY it is for me on November 30th. Best wishes and good luck!

I would not insist on the sleeve. I have had nothing but complications, and my weight loss has stopped after I lost 26 pounds. I wish I had insisted on the RNY!

I agree that it would be really nice to have a revision group or something along those lines for sleeve to bypass. Maybe @@Alex Brecher could look into it and see if we could add a category? My surgery is just around the corner, and I can't wait to get relief. Three days to go! Please keep me posted on how everyone is doing!

Just a helpful tip, never use butter-flavored Crisco as lube.
    That is all.

Ah, I'm okay with it. The snark was the only response that bothered me.
I think she felt I needed some education because I mentioned letting him come in my @ss. That shows that we don't use a condom for the act, and she thinks it's very important.
Maybe she felt if I was uneducated about the need for a condom that I might not know about the need to keep it clean. (I'm not uneducated about the matter; I've read that recommendation, but we are willing to go without. We don't like condoms. We use other means of birth control and are monogamous, so I think we are okay. Condoms take away some of the spontaneity for me.)
Honestly, if someone has strong feelings in regards to my safety, I appreciate the concern. It's all good.
Some girls actually do A to V and A to M regularly. Maybe she thought I was a porn star. (I'm not a porn star; I just play one in the bedroom.)

(RN and comprehensive sex educator hats on)
There is nothing structurally different at any point in the intestines for a sleeved patient. For the lower intestines including the rectum, sigmoid, and descending colon (the parts that could potentially be involved), there is no structural difference for a RNY patient either. I don't know much about duodenal switch, but I wouldn't imagine that they've rearranged anything that far down the intestines.
So structurally, there's nothing changed that would affect the act.
However, there are bowel habit changes that may need to be considered. Many people have Constipation which of course can result in retained stool that you might want to address beforehand due to hygiene or comfort issues. Constipation also has the complication of creating or aggravating hemorrhoids which can cause pain and bleeding with anal intercourse. Other people have varying degrees of diarrhea post surgery, and sometimes with some stool incontinence (hence the warning "never trust a fart"). So this could create a hygiene issue which again you might want to address beforehand.
While I know the topic may be shocking to many, I believe it's important for adults to be able to discuss sexual matters and their bodies without embarrassment. Our societal discomfort with the subject of sex is a holdover from our puritan roots, and I believe it should be reversed.

Well thanks for having the guts to ask the question. I'm glad there is a place to ask it, and I think you got some quality responses. Just remind your guy, lots of lube, take your time, or you will only do it once.

I got my approval today for my sleeve to be converted to RNY! My tentative date is October 26. I am so relieved. I have had severe bile reflux for 4 months. I'm getting tired and I seem to be on a constant emotional roller coaster. Just hoping the next 3 weeks go by fast!

I am scheduled for sleeve to bypass conversion on October 26. I have to be on all liquids starting tomorrow. I am so ready to have this done that I don't even care about the all liquid diet. I hope all goes well for you!

@@GinaCampbell, I apologized to you, as have several other people, and yet you continue the nastiness. You are giving as good as you get. What is it that you want to hear that you might find helpful? People have gone so far as to validate you, and you still find a way to be snarky. You are not helping anyone here. So as you gather your thoughts about how to further lash out at me, remember that you are the one keeping all of this ugly. We have tried to be nice, so why can't you?

Hi all! Today I start my pre-op liquid diet for my surgery on the 26th. I don't like starting over, but I am so glad I got approved and scheduled so I can finally get rid of this reflux. I am a little nervous about the surgery, mainly because I had a LOT of nausea after my sleeve surgery in May. But, then again, I feel like I have a slight advantage because I know a little more about what to expect. I hope we can all keep in touch as we go along...thanks again for your support!

I am curious as to how you know how you will feel 6 years from now? You feel how you want to feel, and I am sorry that you feel that you must live your life without hope. You create the future that you want to create, but life is not absolute. No one "alwayses" or "nevers". I don't intend to discount your feelings or take anything away from your experience, but I was once a pessimistic person myself. I chose at some point to change my outlook to preserve my sanity. No one knows what the future holds, and your situation has just as much of a chance to improve as it does to not improve. I think you are doing yourself an extreme injustice by making up your mind that the rest of your life is going to be miserable because you don't want to admit that things can get better just as easily as they can get worse. You are sure to manifest what you believe to be your reality. This is just another opinion and is in no way meant to disrespect your feelings, but I am sad for you that you are making up your mind to be miserable permanently. I sincerely hope things get better for you, but if you don't want or believe it to be possible, I can guarantee it won't. I wish you the best, even if you don't wish that for yourself.
