After more than 5,000 posts here, I'm done telling WLS patients not to do something stupid they're bound and determined to do.
Everybody here was old enough to get WLS.
If you do something that explodes your gizzard, tough titty.
From now on, I'm just here for the wins, the laffs and the porn.

Leave it alone and let it fall off on its own. Don't scrub it or pick at it. This was the instruction that I got from my surgeon. I left mine on for about 3 weeks and my incisions looked great when it finally peeled off in the shower. It's annoying but much better than stitches or staples.

I started vaping about a year and a half ago, starting out at 5mg of nicotine. I worked my way down to 0mg about 5-6 months before surgery, and let my surgeon know I was vaping but without nicotine. He said it was fine as long as I remained at 0mg, and I literally vaped the whole way to the hospital the morning of my surgery. I didn't vape much after surgery because I was sore and healing, but here I am 9 weeks out now and vaping is fine. The only issue I have with it is sometimes it makes my throat dry, and I can't take a drink because I just ate.
So, you should be fine, but make the information that you are vaping available to your surgeon.

Dear Lord! If you ate nothing but 600 calories a day for any length of time, your body would learn how to maintain its functions on 600 calories a day. You can't sustain that kind of restriction for very long without getting sick, so as soon as you go back above 600 calories a day, guess what happens. You GAIN weight. Be careful and take care!

Whoa! Nobody should eat 600 calories a day if they can help it. Your metabolism will be seriously screwed up if you maintain that. My program calls for 1200 a day as soon as you can get that much in.

We have similar stats, except I was sleeved 5/23. I have only lost 16 pounds! Just do what you know you're supposed to do and hang in there. I think it's harder to lose when we stress too much about it. As long as we don't give up, we will make it!

Several people have weighed in to give you the information you asked about. Having said that, it is ultimately between you and your surgeon as to what you need to do about smoking OR vaping.

Big claim, big proof required. Since pleurisy is usually viral, how close were they?
I talked to the Harvard scientist who did the "popcorn" lung study. He was appalled by the media's mishandling of his study. It wasn't even close to his results. But they want to sell newspapers and general assignment reporters are not always scientifically literate. Too often when they are their editors are not. Not the best place to get health advice.

I've been vaping for about 3 years lmfao.... Never heard of a single person ending up in hospital. 4 of your 5 vaping friends have had problems? What liquid are they using? Arsenic ?

I was vaping 6 mg in February when I started in my program. I immediately switched to 0 nicotine because my surgeon requires a nicotine test if you smoke, and will not do surgery on anyone with nicotine in their system whether it be from smoking OR vaping. I quit vaping completely by the time I had surgery, but I have since picked it back up and I still use 0 nicotine. I just really enjoy it. I have vaped for 4 years, and never had another case of bronchitis or barely even a cold since I switched to vaping from cigs. Is it harmless? I don't know. All I know is my personal experience which has been completely positive. I had to have a vice--no cigs, no alcohol, no junk food...so I vape, but only when I want to, since I am no longer addicted to nicotine. I just like it!

I would just have a candid conversation about your surgery and explain only as much as you feel comfortable explaining. If it's a serious or potentially serious relationship, I would think he/she would be very interested in your surgery and your reasons for having it. Anybody worth staying with will be glad to hear more about it. My husband was very supportive and helps me so much with exercise and my food, so it's good to have a support person in your life. Best wishes to you all!

Could be hormones, as we lose weight a lot of hormones get released. My testosterone has been way up. Increased energy, acne, waaaaayyyy more interest in certain extra curricular activities than I've had since I was a teenager. So aside from the acne all good.

I averaged 10 pounds lost / month my first 4 months post-op. Then things slowed down.
Yet here I am 2 years post-op, 100 pounds lighter than when I started and maintaining easily at 135 pounds.
    Tell your surgeon that story.

Your surgeon is an ass. I can't believe he put that unrealistic goal on you. I started the same weight you did and I didn't lose 50 pounds until 5 months. You've lost over 30 pounds in not even 2 1/2 months out. That's averaging like 12 pounds a month! That's phenomenal.
Stop beating yourself up and keep up your Protein and fluids and make sure you're moving and trust the process.
    Oh, and ignore your surgeon.

Sounds like low blood sugar, this happens to me. I was sweating, shaking, collapsed on the floor. So now I carry tic tacs in my purse as a back up but I always try to carry a container of Powerade WITH sugar, I drink 2-5 oz and I feel back to normal. Try to split your Protein up and have some in the beginning middle and end of day so you can keep your blood sugar consistent. Helped me so much!

Try making homemade bone broth , then add some nutritional yeast.
It adds more savory taste AND more Protein.
You can also add it to Won Ton broth. Yummy!
You guys have quite a support group of your own right here. Good for you!!
Share and enjoy each other's journey.

Thank you so much!! The support at home and here has been tremendous! I kept telling my fiancé I don't think I'd survive the pre-op liquid diet for 2 weeks if I had to do it. Lol but you're absolutely right, it's getting easier and I want to be healthy so quitting isn't an option. I went to a support group tonight, and talked to the bariatric surgeon and he said the pre-op diet is usually a lot harder than the post-op because our stomachs are bigger before surgery than after (makes sense) which is no wonder why I don't feel satisfied. It really is a blessing to have a great support network. I had to do two weeks of liquids only pre-op, and then 3 weeks liquids only post-op. I was so hungry at times I wanted to cry...but I wanted my surgery so badly I somehow got through it. My husband never ate in front of me. My daughter offered to do liquids with me, bless her heart. She's only 15 so I didn't let her do it of course...but the offer was so sweet of her. You will find out just how strong you are! Hang in there...I made it and so can you. It will be so worth it! Best wishes to you on your journey!

I don't know if they carry Bariatric Advantage brand at GNC, but I can tell you how heavenly their Calcium/Vitamin D chews are! I have chocolate/peanut butter and I LOVE them. They are like candy, and they settle my stomach after I take my other pills. They sell them on Bariatric Pal.
